A trek through space(Starfinder Recruitment)

Recruitment

Sovereign Court

With the release of the new System, I got my hands on this fine book.

So, I am gonna run a test of this game taking players from lvl 1 to lvl 4. Perhaps beyond depending on how the game goes.

I'm looking for a group of 3-6, trying to keep it small to keep it nice and easy.

I'm gonna keep the rules close to just the core. However I'm open for suggestions from you as players. Since most of the game is backwards compatible with Pathfinder I'm gonna be mix and mashing monsters and aliens. Magic and technology will work hand in hand :P

But to keep it simple I'm restricting players to the Starfinder classes only.

The idea is that your group is a bad of mercenaries hired by a corporation to find and stop some black market smuggling. Story will be very liniar, and I will throw a few encounters out there to test combat.

I expect this game to stall occasionally, but mostly during the points where rules become foggy ;)

Character Creation:

Race: to be Fair, you can use any of the races in Starfinder, and if you can convince me I may allow others from Paizo.

Class:Starfinder only

Theme:well Starfinder only ;P there aren't any anywhere else anyways!

Starting money: Average

Ability: 4d6 drop lowest or 25pt buy. Those who wish to go below 10 I will allow down to 8 to give extra, otherwise standard rules apply.

Background: keep it simple. I don't need a biography

dotting

I am still downloading the PDF but should have a character by the end of the weekend.

dice rolls:

4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 5, 5) = 19 16
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 4) = 16 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2, 4) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 2) = 15 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 3) = 15 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5, 4) = 16 15

Can't complain about that roll

Liberty's Edge

Hi DM waz up, I'm certainly interested in a playtest game. I've just started reading the rules, so it may take me several days to get my head around them enough to create a character. I am thinking either a soldier or mechanic at this point.

Let me know what the application criteria (if any) are.

Liberty's Edge

dice rolls:

4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 5) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 1) = 8 7
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 5, 4) = 17 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 3, 5) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 6) = 19 16
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 2) = 13 11

Edit - not fantastic rolls, based on that I may keep it simple and go for a brawny melee type soldier who really just focuses on combat!

Dotting and rolling.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 3) = 13 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 5) = 16 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 5) = 15 12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6, 1) = 17 16
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 2) = 12 10
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 3, 4) = 9 8

Not terrible. I'll see what I can do with them.

When you say point buy, do you mean point buy as the core rules say, where it's one to one, or point buy as in pathfinder?

Dotting. I think ill go for 25 point buy because I don't trust the dice.

Dot-dot. Yeah, I'll join zerceses - is it 1-to-1, or Pathfinder point buy? Although, with 25 points, I'm guessing the latter.

Hi. I would be interested, but is this meant to be pbp?

Sovereign Court

Woops! Yeah I didn't realize it was one to one :P I just skimmed the character creation, looking more at classes and races than that! Haha... Yeah I mean 25 in the Pathfinder sense.

And yes, this a a PBP on this cite.

Thanks. Working on my vesk bombard soldier.

Okay. I'll try a Solarian.

4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 6) = 19
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 4, 2) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 5) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 6) = 19
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 1, 2) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 5) = 17

So 16, 12, 12, 16, 9, 16

I mean there is a nine but hot damn three sixteens!

I am tempted by almost any of the Starfinder races and most of the classes.

Liberty's Edge

Ok, I was going to go Vesk soldier, but since we already have one I have instead begun to create an Android Mechanic.

Hey, can I register? This sounds like fun.

dice:

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 6) = 11 10
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 2) = 17 15
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 2) = 7 6
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 2) = 18 16
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 5) = 18 17
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 1) = 12 11

I'm interested in a Lashunta operative, but given the amount of non magic I might try for an android technomancer.

EDIT - Woah, that's an interesting dice pool. I could pretty much play anything on any race. Definitely mystic or technomancer. I'll try and throw some stats together by tonight or tomorrow.

4d6 - 2 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 4) - 2 = 14
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 3) - 1 = 10
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 2) - 1 = 11
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 3) - 3 = 11
4d6 - 4 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 5) - 4 = 15
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 6, 2, 6) - 2 = 14

A pretty good stat block. Going to make an envoy.

DM, am I able to play a halfling? If not, will likely be a human.

Background:
A younger Eershun would hate what his older self has become. Back in the day, the younger vesk rode out into the stars to make a name for himself. Let the elders squabble over their rocks, he was headed for the dark to honor his people and his god. Unfortunately, without the relative stability of the military service he'd so brashly rebuffed, Ereshun found he had to make mounting compromises to make ends meet.

Today the gray scaled vesk is a dour cynic that shuttles from one job to the next. He's wiser now and sees only the foolish mistakes he's made and the mistakes of the other young people around him. Sometimes, if he's not drowning his sorrows at the bar, he'll try to straighten them out.

Question: I can't find an ability for dex to touch attacks in this book. If anyone knows where to find that, could you direct me to it so I can take jolting surge as a spell? Thanks. ,

I'm still going over the book, so if I made a mistake please point it out. I'll clean it up a little if I get selected. I reserve the right to change minor details such as the spell list or appearance and backstory.

Backstory:

"I can hear the stars. They scream."
Arnca was built and used by a small company as an extra pilot and general mechanic on a mission to explore the long term effects of living in the Drift. The mission was supposed to last one month. 3 months of a missing starship later, the company folded. 3 months after that, Arcna rode the ship out of the drift and smashed it into an astroid. Arcna came out a little insane, muttering about the great beings beyond the stars that desire to eat the universe frequently. Coupled with this madness and belief in the eldritch, was a new talent for magic. This magic is what got Arcna's current career, acting as a fixer for anyone who needs a unique set of talents. If it needs to be shot, blown up, hacked, repaired, or anything else Arcna will do it for money. Assisted by Lavy, an artificial intelligence with much better social skills (+2 on everything is way better than Arcna's -3), Arcna does what's necessary, both to survive and prevent the arrival of horrible beings from outside the universe that may not actually exist outside of Arcna's madness.

As far as I know, there is no way to make a tough attack use something other than strength. Even spell grenade uses strength since the grenade itself is a thrown weapon. On the plus side, EAC is usually easier to hit and if your enemy is carrying an electric device you get a +2 to the attack roll.

I'm looking over the sheet now and currently, the only thing that might crop up is your number of languages. You get to learn the language of your home world, if you have one, on top of common and the ones you ge for a high Int.

Backstory:

Domash was born on Castrovel shortly after the signing of the treaty. He excelled in his studies, and when it came time to choose a career, he selected Peace Officer.

During his 5 year stint in the Peace Force, Domash became widely known for tracking down criminals who believed they could not be found.

He was also known for not having any desire to play politics. Domash was honest to a fault, and it hurt his career when he accused a senior officer of corruption. After that officer was removed from the force, Domash began to receive more and more dangerous assignments, often being sent into the field without backup of any kind.

Seeing the writing on the wall, Domash tendered his resignation, left Castrovel, and took up the only profession that he felt could both make a difference and fit his skill set: bounty hunter.

Now he takes jobs as he sees fit, tracking dangerous mercenaries other criminals who attempt to hide from the law.

Does Absalom station have it's own language? I couldn't see one for it, so I assumed it was common.

You're welcome. I haven't read the rules well enough either, so if we all watch out we can catch each other.

Hey GM, are we gonna have a Starship? If so, will there be enough Starship combat that I need to worry about building for it and/or reading the starship combat rules really soon?

Yes, I am allowing the legacy races, found in the back of the book. Not like there is really much difference in them now :P

As for touch attacks, there is no touch Attacks. Instead AC is decided between kinetic AC and Energy AC. EAC is the ranged touch attacks as far as that goes. The bonus there is as standard. If it's a weapon it's attack+Dex+modifiers.

For a starship, this first run I'm not gonna do a starship. It's all gonna be based in one place. However, if we make it to lvl4 and still wanna go I'm more than willing to allow for it.

Ok, I'm cool with no starships. Easing into the new system instead of trying to learn it all at once. Any thoughts on how long recruitment will last? Or on how our characters look?

Do Small creatures still get bonuses to attack, AC, and Stealth checks? I didn't see any indication of that in the rulebook.

Okay, here's my character sheet. Will have the backstory on the alias soon. Please let me know if I did anything wrong. :)

Small creatures have no inherent bonuses or penalties.

Cool, thanks Vrog.

Mark II, Android Icon Soldier. Warning contains schlock.

The Trailer:
*Black screen with orchestral music slowly building in intensity*
“Coming to a holovid subscription near you soon is Mark II the brooding heart throb with a tormented past, travelling the galaxy to fight evil.”

*Screen shows Mark II shooting from the hip at a goblin who’s head turns into a crimson mist before diving into cover behind a pillar, turning to the camera and winking.
The screen changes to a man in a twead jacket sitting in a library*
“Mark, the first one that is was a terrifying plague upon the people of my world and many others. Sure it came as a surprise when he left to ‘Ascend’, clearly meaning renewal. My world alongside others took advantage and freed ourselves but Poldo VII. Well it’s people were so afraid of him they catered to the whims of his pogeny for years til the Stewards intervened. It was probably because of the Cataclysm of the Temple, where their capital was leveled in a single night being still in living memory that kept them afraid.”

*Screen fades to show Mark II sitting on the rear ramp of a transport vehicle with his rifle propped beside him and he turns to look at the camera as if he only noticed it’s presence. In red letters on the bottom left hand corner in common is the word ‘live’*
“I’m Mark II but I’m not Mark I, he’s gone, hasn’t been in this body in years. But every now and again I show up on a planet and folks start looking through historical archives and giving me guff. I’ve tried to live a quiet life but the Stewards came and impounded all of the stuff I had there.”

Mark II looks dejected “Then I told them where my back up cache Mark I left was and they took that. That’s not very nice, they took my house and then my ships and armor. Well after that I’m not going to tell them where the back up back up is but that’s barely got anything in it, no ship just a few weapons and armor. I’m definitely not going telling them where Mark I left his stuff for when he’s coming back. Now-”

A feminine voice comes from off screen “What do you mean coming back?”

“You know love when he comes back.” Mark II gives her a bewildered look. “Now in future-”

The feminine voice interjects again “Wait, no he’s dead he went through renewal! He’s dead!”

Mark II is clearly becoming annoyed “Well yeah mostly dead, he just did that as part of becoming a lich. Shuffled off his mortal coil didn’t he, read it in his journals he left for me.”

The camera shakes and the off screen the woman whispers “Desna have mercy.”

Offscreen another voice with a clicking quality spoke in a commanding voice. “Cut the feed now! What do you-”

*The screen goes blank and the dynamic orchestral music starts picking up again showing action sequences of Mark II recklessly fighting and the off screen feminine voice says in a calm sultry tone in the prerecorded bumper for the interviews end. “Now you know his tragic backstory and heroic valor, you too can see Mark II in action. You’ve heard how Mark I brought worlds to their knees in fear, now it’s time to see Mark II entertain the universe!”

Wow, there's a lot of people here now. Good luck everyone!

4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5, 3) = 14 =12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 4) = 13 =12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 6) = 17 =16

4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 5) = 17 =14

Shirren Priest (Eloritu) Mystic sounds fun! :D

Still need to sort out gear, and do a backstory

Poke

Ba-bump.

It looks like this one isn't progressing. Even if it is, I'll probably bow out at this stage.

Im super interested in joining this campaign. Id love to be able to play in any starfinder games at this point. I will roll for my abilities and then basically see whats up for a class.
Lemme know if im picked to play. Im brand new to PbP so i have limited posts but I am currently getting into it as we speak.

4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 2) = 13 (11)
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 2) = 15 (14)
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 4) = 11 (10)
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5, 6) = 18 (17)
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 5) = 10 (9)
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 3) = 11 (10)
Those are some nice scores for me I think. Gonna roll up a character tonight and see how it goes.

Don't get your hopes up. We ain't heard from the GM in over a week.

4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 6, 3) = 1714
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 4) = 2117
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 2) = 1110

4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 4) = 1412
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 2) = 1412

Any clue when recruitment is due to end.

No, because the last time the GM posted was 11 days ago.

Yeah, seems dead. Even if it's not, I'm going to bow out, same as Flek.

Likewise, unfortunately. Good luck with your future gaming!
