CHARLOTTE!

I still want more Castlevania II elements.

That's just straight up Castlevania III.

That's great.

Between this, the Dark Crystal, and Voltron it's like a second childhood!

Dunno. I'm still waiting for Bay to stop making Transformer movies and someone else to do them...

Freehold,

Not quite the same in terms of I used to watch the 80s movie like 20 times when it came available between 1990 and 2001.

Ooooooooooooooh.

Wait, what Dark Crystal?

(I've been enjoying the Voltron remake!)

Tact,

They're doing a live-action Pre-quel to Dark Crystal on Netflix.

Aaaaaaaahhhhhh! Those things are horrifying!

Which of the things?

I think Freehold may have hallucinated a swarm of Whedusa Heads.

It's entirely possible.

The main character creatures from dark crystal exist in my uncanny valley. They terrify me.

Count me in as another thoroughly creeped out by the Gelflings or whatever they were called (I'm not Googling to confirm because I don't want to risk encountering a picture.)

Every time I mention I refuse to watch The Dark Crystal because it creeps me out, people always say "I guess the (monsters) are a little scary."

"No, not the monsters (though they're freaky, too). The main characters. Ugh."

Silver Crusade

The main reason I don't like 3rd DnD halflings.

*shudder*

Really...when I was a kid I had a major crush on Kira. I am surprised people could find her creepy....

They're creepy!

They have the same proportions as humans (instead of being hobbits), they're just really small.

See?

yes, i know, but i always hated hobbitses as halflings in d&d. Poasibly because im a kender guy.

*sniff*

We can never enjoy halflings together...

Although in my campaign setting, halfling look like golarion gnomes with respect to proportions(only sometimes on hair).

I'm indifferent to Kender.

Uh, same proportions as a human but smaller is pretty much how small Fey work.

Point. But them and certain outsiders are small enough to not bother me, 3rde halflings were just the right size to be creepy.

Anyways, back to Castlevania...so who thinks Belmot might fight the Grim Reaper? *admits to being partial to that boss fight*

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Answer is to that is probably "yes" - pretty much anything that's public domain would be up for an appearance (even if it makes no sense even in a fictional universe - like Frankenstein's Monster, Adam, appearing as a foe centuries before he was brought to life).

Though Death has gone from being just a boss fight to an actual character in later iterations of the series. Wonder if Death might get used as the recurring henchman villain.

(Completely random thought - it'd be amazing if Netflix actually got to handle the War of 1999, since that is never going to make it into a game at this point.)

I'll be honest, when I first heard about the show I was pretty excited because I thought it would be live action... now? It looks okay I guess in a generic Anime style. I'll watch it for sure (Castlevania 3 was my favorite Belmont Game I played)... but it really doesn't have that same zing I was expecting. :-/

I never liked Castlevania II. The entire idea of running around collecting Dracula's body parts to resurrect him and then kill him?? That seemed remarkably stupid even back then.

He's dead... Leave him be. Stop waking up ancient evils!! (frankly an issue I have with a couple of AP's I've played through too ;) )

Phantom,

You've had issues so much it's a wonder you don't have a life time subscription...

I liked Castlevania II because it was Fing CREEPY!

Zhang,

Yeah maybe. We'll see.

I guess this is a necro?

The show actually started.

And yep, it's Castlevania III with the additional backstory from Symphony of the Night worked in.

Fun so far. Pretty gory, as an added bonus.

Not much variety yet in the monsters shown so far, though.

(Thing that amused me - the Japanese voice actor for Alucard is Masaya Onosaka, who some of you may recognize as Vash the Stampede.)

Quote:

"But I've worked all my life in His name!"

"He knows your works. And they make Him puke. But we? We love you."

Coming from someone who never played the games, it's a resounding meh.
The gore and action is cool but I didn't really enjoy any of the characters, and MC sounds like he's phoning it in. A few amusing snippets of dialogue in a sea of whateverness.

I liked it. Only thing that upset me was it was only 4 episodes.

Also I found myself relating to Dracula far to much. Really he is just taking it to far is only thing I hold against him.

Someone watched to much child's play when they were little.

I frankly never found chucky the least bit scary.

It's a weekly series. It's up to 4 episodes so far but there'll be more.

@ Bjorn - I'm watching it in Japanese language with subtitles. The English VAs not being that impressive doesn't surprise me; my understanding is that with a few notable exceptions, most of the good English VAs are in video games, not animation.

No, there are 4 episodes in season 1 and there will be 8 in season 2 which comes out next year. So no more Castlevania for a while.

It's pretty hammy. It feels like some sort of strange propaganda with how the church is treated as evil from top to bottom but Dracula is just a poor misguided genocidal maniac.

It being written in English, I'll stick with the English dubs. And IIRC most VAs work in both animation and video games.

Yeah...Warren Ellis is attached. It's anime in the sense of the style, but I don't think in the sense of who is creating it.

I too watched it today, and was rather bummed to only see 4 episodes which really only really only serve as the prequel to the main story.

Watched this today, Oh my goodness I'm putting this down as one of my top shows for the year. The weighting and VO is great and the fight choreography is some if the best I've seen in animation.

Okay, I stand corrected, and now I'm kind of baffled. I guess Netflix wasn't expecting the show to actually pan out.

Well traditionally video game adaptations don't do well. So I guess they were hesitant.

Watched episode 1, very much enjoyed it.

Can't help but feel Dracula is somewhat justified in being ticked off. Just....liiiitle bit overboard.

Trust me, if a town burned my wife for being a witch, I would kill every last one of them.

Hell, Trevor's initial attitude towards the whole thing is that Wallachia can reap what it has sewn.

The Seekers choosing to fight for the Wallachians anyways is what's inspiring him to take action.

And reminds me of a simple way to identify if a character is actually Good - are they willing to take risks to save people who don't deserve it?

Eh Dracula views humans as we would rabid dogs. This is less genocide and more of an extermination in his view.
