More lab work, more blood taken. When I leave, I'm going to look like a pincushion.

Ugh... good luck, bud. I'm thinking about ya, for whatever that's worth.

Best of luck to ya. I'm fortunate my bloodwork was just to check triglycerides.

My blood work this week was to make sure it wasn't leaking from my eyebrow anymore.

The blood work is to see if my Pituitary hormones are normal.

Most of my fathers half of the family is diabetic. Just be smart about it and its not to hard to deal with. hmm Should I eat this Entire cake myself... If you said no you are on the right track. Good luck!

Bro! You don't know what i've been doing to that cake, Homes.

Farfalle with a salsicca-portobello mushroom-and basil cream sauce for dinner today, I think.

Yummy!!!

Good morning, everyone.

How are you doing, John? Any news about your health?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Nothing yet, except my Thyroids are under-producing, because of the Pituitary tumor.

That's good news about your blood sugar and blood pressure!

Yes, it is. :)

I awoke to my enclosed back porch (which is also a storage area for my house) flooded because the roofers the landlord hired stopped work Friday and didn't come back yesterday. I don't think I've lost anything of value, but the entire carpet had to be torn out and thrown away immediately. That involved moving everything I had out there into the kitchen. Now I can barely open my fridge door and my dryer has been moved to a spot where there is no standing water which means I can't do any laundry until all the standing water is gone. It's still raining so there's not much point in using the shop vacuum as it just continues to drip and pour onto the floor. My landlord is a great guy and he's really going to rip into those roofers for not working yesterday when the weather was perfect for it.

So that's my Father's Day surprise... LOL. Though my son did bring me some new dice and a funny card.

Well... at least was just the carpet. But having this things happening can be annoying.
Father's day is a different day in Spain so I didn't know it was Father's day on the US.
Happy father's day to all the daddies here!

Thanks!

Father's Day dinner last night was very nice, despite the weather.

I'd fired up the grill to cook a pair of local grass-fed organic NY strip steaks (my favorite cut). I had just dropped the second steak on the grill and heard that lovely sizzle, when the sky flashed and a huge boom of thunder shook everything. About 5 seconds later, the skies opened up with a torrential downpour.

I dropped the grill hood to keep the rain off, and beat a hasty retreat to my garage. I then got our big umbrella and went back out to keep cooking. The steaks turned out perfectly, despite the storm.

My wife made a big kale salad, and my daughter made some delicious garlic toasts from a loaf of locally-baked organic ciabatta bread. The only concession to the storm was that we made the garlic toasts in the toaster-ovem rather than on the grill.

And I had a glass of my favorite beer with dinner.

The steaks came out perfectly medium-rare. Everything was delicious.

An excellent Father's Day dinner, shared with my two favorite people in the world!

No Father's Day here. My father's been in his grave over 30 years. My brother did get to enjoy dinner with my nieces however. Unfortunately, tomorrow morning we're laying out mother to rest. Bad enough my workplace doesn't really do holidays (as in, we work them all). Now, there won't be Mother's Day or Father's Day for me again *sigh*

I'm so sorry, Lathiira.

It must have been a tough day for you.
My condolences.

Thank you. Funeral is in about eight hours. Just trying to pass the night, get a few chores done to keep busy and productive. Hopefully everything will get straightened out at work too. I went to put in for bereavement and the computer said see a manager or HR rep. I work overnights: what HR rep? Oh, the one on a leave of absence and only works days? Yeah....

I'm truly sorry you're having to go through all this. I believe I speak for most of us that if you need an ear or a shoulder all you have to do is just send up a flair.

That sucks! My mom passed away suddenly last November.

Sorry for your loss. :-(

If you need anything lemme know.

Mom's resting with Dad now. Time to go back to everyday routine. Thank you for your condolences everyone.

Now, who's cooking what for dinner?

I just had rye bread with cheese, tomato, serrano ham and green olives. Something simple and quick. I was tired.

Last night was nachos for dinner. I used the leftovers to make burritos for lunch today. I hadn't had a burrito in more than two years so it tasted really, really good. Love the gluten free flour tortillas that are available now. Corn tortillas are good, but you absolutely, positively cannot make a burrito with them. I know. I tried. All it makes is a mess. :P
Tonight I'm making the kidlet's favorite. Mini meatloaf. I make it with ground pork, oats, ketchup, tamari, garlic salt, onion powder, and lots of smoked paprika. And then each mini loaf is shaped around a piece of cheese. The end result is an ooey-gooey mess, which is I think part of its appeal to the kidlet. I think I'll also make the fries from scratch in the deep fryer this time instead of using the frozen ore ida ones.

The wife made lots of cheese pizza last night.

So, leftovers. :-)

I'm heading out for dinner in about an hour. Some old friends are back in town for a few weeks, and we're meeting for burritos and margaritas at a local Mexican place.

On a non-food-related item... I managed to accidentally and temporarily brick my phone for the next 72 hours.

So, I've got a Galaxy S7, which had been working great. This morning, my Spotify app was starting up by itself repeatedly. It's done this before, and the way to make it stop is to reboot. So I rebooted. But after reboot, the phone was kind of messed up: the screen resolution was wrong, it defaulted to the standard keyboard rather than the keyboard app I prefer, and several apps wouldn't connect to their servers.

So I hard-reset... and that was my mistake.

I use a password manager app so that every one of my accounts has an independent 24-character randomly-generated password. Obviously, I don't remember any of them. The thing is, those passwords are stored on my phone. After my phone rebooted, I needed to log in to my Google account... and I had no idea what the password was. However, since I was at my laptop, I simply reset my Google password there, and then tried to log in to my phone.

It refused. It turns out that with this version of Android, after a hard reset, you need to log in the the most recent password used on that phone, or it won't let you in for 72 hours. This is an anti-theft feature.

And now I have no mobile phone for the next three days.

No. Patted them dry, sprinkled a grind or two of black pepper and a scant pinch of coarse salt, then dropped them on the hot, oiled grill.

I have made finishing butter for steaks in the past (lemon-tarragon is my favorite), but not last night. I just served them up unadorned.

They were delicious.

Hi, everyone. Sorry I couldn't post on Monday, but my hotspot ran out of time, and I couldn't buy more until today. Monday night, I was released from the Hospital. All in all, it was a pleasant experience, save for one incident. Some blood work needed done, and the nurses assigned to get them couldn't find the proper vein. So, they went digging for it.

The pain was excruciating. I was nearly in tears. It was the closest thing to actual torture that I ever experienced. But, I'm home now. The head Neurosurgeon has decided that I'm not currently fit to resume my duties. Having a Security Guard with near-constant double-vision is an OSHA incident waiting to happen.

Lathiira, I'm sorry for your loss. ;_;

No one in my family could be around for Father's Day due to jobs, so I was just given some cash and told to order whatever I wanted for dinner as a consolation prize.. lol. I ordered pizza, which I finished off today.

Oh, I DID get a cool set of dice for a gift. That's the same day the rain burst through the ceiling of my back porch/storage area, so Father's Day was anything but dull... lol

Mmm...sounds like potato skins. Now I want some. *looks at clock* Damn, too late for a store trip. If I were working tonight, I'd be in good shape there. Oh wait, then I wouldn't know I'd want them. Curse you temporal paradox opportunity costs!

I am glad that you are back home and I wish yoi completely recover soon.

About what they did to you when extracting blood, that is sign of a very inexperienced practicioner. If you cannot find a proper vein you don't dig until you find it. You remove the device and make another puncture. Or you make the extraction at the wrist or the back of the hand. This makes me angry because it's not only torture for the patient, it also causes analytic alterations that makes the results of determinations made on blood extracted with excessive pain dubious. It also raises the probability of the blood sample having a clot making the analysis impossible and making the patient be though the pain of having to have their blood extracted again.

I am a difficult extraction too, because my veins are thin and weak, and I am a blood donor anyway. I have never had a difficulty having my blood extracted by the blood donation foundation because they have excelent and experienced professionals. But each time I have to do a regular analysis I have a different experience: once I had an artery punctured! How in the hell can you puncture an artery with a Vacutainer system? (The needle is very short) And I had an hematoma on my elbow of the size of one and a half hands for more than a week.

So, as a professional and as a patient, making you go through all the pain that it was caused to you makes me angry.

Made Chicken Tikka masala for third time for a friend. I think I have the recipe tweaked to where I want it.

My next project is a southern rice dish hilariously named Chicken Bog

Sounds tasty, Patrick, but I do like chicken and rice dishes, so I'm biased :)

Yeah I do love the rice and chicken combo. The sausage adds a nice twist.

One of My favorite rice and chicken recipe.

Uncle Ben's wild rice (i guess it doesn't have to be that brand but it is Spiderman approved.)
1 can of cream of celery
1 can of cream of mushroom
2 cans worth of water (i usually just fill up the soup cans and poor 1 of each back in)
3-5 chicken breasts (I usually cut them in half so they cook faster)

Cover it and let it cook till chicken is done and rice is tender Its real easy to do in a crock pot. if not a crockpot you probably want to stir it occasionally so rice doesn't burn.

It looks horrible starting out but turns out awesome.
