Good morning, everyone.

Good morning, John!

I am considering Svala Sólgeirr for the name for my bard, as a composition of many things.

As she is loosely based graphically on the Valkyrie of Marvel I followed one of Kjel's ideas on going for something norse.
Svala was also a Val'kyr from Wrath of the Lich King and I've always loved that name. It means "swallow" (as the bird) and it sounds cool.

Sólgeirr is a direct (and maybe inaccurate, I don't know) from Sunspear. My weapon of choice is a spear, my character has a slight inner radiance and I also love Dorne and the Martell from ASOIAF. Sunspear is their city. Also, in Marvel Avengers Alliance, geirr was one of the attacks that the Valkyrie had, so in the end everything is related.

Also, my character is of Solamnic heritage and they often have composite surnames like "Brightblade" or "Crownguard". My character has the trait Heirloom Weapon, so having a longspear inherited from her family, a surname implying a spear was very fitting.

Thanks to all for your ideas!

Sounds like a fine and well-thought-out idea ^^

I usually have to break my head to come out with semidecent names... At least this one has a surname xD

Now I have to think what to pick as my lvl 1 feat. I liked the idea of making trips with a longspear as a complement to buffing but had decided not to go for it... until I got Heirloom Weapon as a trait (in my group it's the GM who gives the traits depending on the story). Now the trip chain is back...

So I have to choose among Lingering Performance (which my autocorrect wants to be Lingerie Performance which also seems cool xD), Combat Reflexes, and Dirty Fighting/ Combat Expertise.

I'm still undecided, but I might take Dirty Fighting so I can go for Improved Trip at level 3. Decisions, decisions...

I say stick with Lingerie performance. It'll distract your foes then you can trip them.

I'm simultaneously debeveraging with laughter and appalled.

Sounds like a good thing if I just knew what debeveraging meant.

De-beverage-ing- spilling a drink from your mouth or nose because of a sudden access of laughter.
At least that's my guess based on the etymology of the word.

I wouldn't try to google it because I'm pretty sure Quibs made up that word.

Now I have a verb to define the actions of my Cocacola rocket nose xD

Ah then probably a bad thing especially if it is a particularly acidic drink.

Spilling coca cola from your nose really clears your sinuses. Mind me, I am an expert xD

I'll take your word on it.

Been there, done that. It does indeed work. Probably not good for the mucus membranes. Then again, I've done the trick of using a can of Coke to clean a toilet before. Given it's not quite the pH of stomach acid, it works very well indeed.

Never took into consideration the pH of coke. I guess it uses the principle of a carbonic buffer solution? <- Fascinated by the equation of acid-base equilibrium, specially Carbonic acid <-> bicarbonate, as it's the main buffer solution in our body.

Yeah you science that coke up.

Science makes food tastier. It nourishes your body and your mind!

Yep. That's true!

Not exactly. It's pH is low because of the mix of acids within it as well as their concentrations. Roughly at pH 2.5. That's mainly due to carbonated water and phosphoric acid. I can't speak for caramel color, natural flavors, or high fructose corn syrup pH values. Caffeine I thought was just ever so mildly alkaline. Natural flavors seem to be variable based on exact composition; I think HFCS is mildly acidic, and caramel color I have no clue. Put enough of any acidic stuff together and the pH will go straight down.

Yeah, buffers work to one point. Any base acid equilibrium is easily broken by providing a base excess or the opposite, more acids.
But Carbonic acid is part of the main buffer system on our body, based on equilibrium between bicarbonate (renal function) and CO2 (lung function) which is transported by blood as carbonic acid and can be easily turned into bicarbonate or CO2, effectively taking or giving H+ ions.

So, I wonder how much coke could potentially alter that equilibrium on a perspn with compromised lung or renal function...

Probably a fair bit, though more on the renal side than lung function I imagine.

Yeah, mainly because renal function can be more easily compromised on the long term enough to alter base-acid balance. Lung function is mostly compromised enough only in more punctual situations like obstruction, hyperventilating or inconsciousness. In normal situations lungs can compensate better than kidneys regarding to metabolic excretion.

Metabolic buffering is the powerful one. Respiratory buffering can have an effect, if a rather smaller one.

Good morning, everyone. Here's hoping that I don't have a headache like the one I had yesterday.

The best debeverage I ever saw was many years ago with my friend Zeke. We were playing Torg, I believe, and someone said something funny and Zeke was doing his best to to hold in the mouthful of Dr. Pepper he'd just taken. I leaned over and whispered, "If you love me you'll swallow". That's all it took and he debeveraged in the most epic fashion I had ever seen before or since.

My cocacola spilling nose is already dangerous enough without you near. Remind me to keep away from you whenever I am drinking coke.

LOL it's a deal.

You should really put this in the "One-liners that made the whole table laugh" thread.

Oh, yes, that one is pure awesomeness xD

Today I have a day off at work, which I needed badly, as I haven't had enough off days lately because changing contracts has been a mess.

So I managed to do an update to my campaign journal after some time, and today I'll be cooking some slices of blue shark. I haven't had enough time to cook properly on the last weeks and I hadn't eaten fish either in many weeks. I'm going to do it grilled with some boiled peas, as I don't want to do anything too complicated today.

I might also do a coffee spongecake if I don't feel too lazy.

Yeah, the thread has slowed down a bit. But it still rears it recipe laden head from time to time.

Work is work, people...

I'm missing being able to post a bit more often too.

Well... today I made 3 colored pasta with veggies, ham and ricotta. I found it delicious but Dal hated it xD

Blame the ricotta. If not for it, the pasta would be delicious.

The ricotta blames you for not liking it!

Don't blame the cheese!!

That's unfair, working on a toy store your work is just a game! (At least for other people)

Working on a hospital lab, I have a bloody and sh*tty job (literally, but I love it).

I am so damn hungry now... Counting the minutes to be out of here and make a big tasty sandwich!

What are you planning to make?

Leftovers from yesterday:

Chicken breast marinated in olive oil, garlic, rosemary, crushed juniper berries and crushed chili, wrapped in Spanish Ham.

Dauphinoise potatoes - Thine potato slices, ovn-cooked in cream, milk, garlic, a tiny pinch of salt, crushed peppercorns and a little bit of thyme, with a thin layer of grated cheese added on top.

verdict: Still pretty good, 3.0-3.3 stars out of 5.

Sounds delicious.

Raining for hours here in Pittsburgh. *BLEGH*

*Salivates and gives thanks for being already getting out of job*

It's raining there? I have heard we had sleet here this afternoon.

Having to eat at 10.30 P.M., probably eating the whole kitchen raw xD

I'll improvise something quick.

I love cheese, but I cannot stand cream cheese.

If it's to be made quickly, might I suggest cold cuts. Some thinly sliced ham, Mortadello, Provolone Cheese, Lettuce, Onion, Tomato, Spinach leaves, and Olives. Topped off with an Italian Vinagrette.
