If this isnt the right place I am sorry, but I am panicking.
Ok I joined the Pathfinder Society on Facebook outside of my local group. Today I was talking to someone like DM that was explaining the difference between Pathfinder and the Pathfinder Society campaign because he didnt think I knew the difference.
It was alright until the person starting asking for my Society ID. I was reluctant to give that to a stranger, then it turned into demands, a threat, and kicking me.
Edit: Even more suspicious, the group is now hidden and the person has blocked me.

Hmm, that doesn't sound right. Which group was it? (Like specific group name.) I wonder if some idiot has set up a PFS lookalike account for this sort of behaviour, in which case we need to squish it.I don't normally spend much time there, but I will go take a look and see what's what as well.
Edited.

I do not moderate the Pathfinder Society Facebook group, so I cannot speak to the nuances of its moderation practices. I can, however, put you in contact with the moderators if you have a question about what happened. Please send me a private message if you're interested.
Based on what you've said, it seems odd for you to have been booted from the group. The only situation in which I would expect someone to ask for any personal information would be to ask what area (state or country, not actual address) you're in to help connect you with local games or organizers. Without knowing more about the situation—which I'd rather handle by private message—it's difficult for me to say more.

I believe you have a bad group. This is the PFS Facebook group I use.
While there is no official group to my knowledge, there are quite a few of the Venture Officers that participate in this one.

I recommend this be handled privately between John Compton, Chaos Ticket, and the moderators of the facebook group. I don't have any details on this specific case, but I do know there was at least one situation recently where someone was posting in the facebook who did not seem to be a PFS player.
erm.. half the posts are general rules and gaming related...:)

The person in question was disruptive.

Facebook locked me out the beginning of this year. Every attempt to sign on gets me a demand for a scan of my ID. They keep saying all members must be shown the real names of everyone else. I've been told they still allow accounts in the name of cats, but I'm not sure I believe that.
Pathfinder should disavow all connection with Facebook. What Facebook is doing should be public knowledge. It's criminal.

That one isn't official? Sure looks like they are attempting to officialy represent. Just joined, I'll see if I also get requests for personal information.

Thanks for adding uninformed speculation to the thread, it helps a lot.
There is a Community Use Policy, and anyone that wants to adhere to it is welcome to do their own stuff, on Facebook or anywhere else. There is even a "PFS for Jerks" Facebook group (they call it something else, but that's what the mandate of the group says).
Of course, one could just sit back and complain from the sidelines instead, that's a lot easier.

Facebook advertises itself as a utility for real people, not fictional ones. They're not breaking any laws by disallowing what you want to do. More in point, the account of your fictional character does not fit into their business model.

Non-official Facebook groups can set there own rules however they see fit. If the group doesn't fit you, find another.
..... While I suspect Trump bought Facebook, I don't know how to prove that. I strongly suspect someone bought it and turned it into something I don't even want to be directed to..
Wah??? I spoiler-ed my response beyond that because it doesn't add to the thread
No conspiracy theories behind Facebook, just plain old commercialism. 10 years ago Facebook was a startup with a huge pile of VC capital and no profit. They burnt money to gain market share (users), like every other social media start up. Then they went public and decided they actually had to make money. So things changed. Anytime you spend time on Facebook you are now the product.

Right, and the lack of official one coupled with this one which doesn't say it's unofficial, makes this Facebook page certainly appear to represent paizo. I would strongly suggest a clearer distinction, either via paizo or this Facebook group.

The Paizo Community Team does not have the bandwidth available to moderate additional groups on other websites, given the amount of effort is already diverted to our own forums. However, I am interested in hearing feedback on what one would expect from an official Facebook (page, not group) for PFS in terms of content. Our review of social media accounts is pretty frequent, and we welcome ideas :)

Chris,
Insider looks at upcoming product. Sketches of artwork in varied stages of design, a blast or blog from upper echelons every now and again.Highlight some various conventions featuring paizo staff or the hot names in the company.
Chapter splashes from new (fantasy) books / novels to generate excitement over them with tie ins for society.
I could go on and on.

I suppose I should clarify with: content that wouldn't normally be featured on the Paizo page.

Things I would like to see:
~Links to PFS-related blog posts
~Paizo Employee AMAs?
~PfS question of the week? (Favorite NPC, class, race, scenario?)
~PFS Author of the month? With a little description and update about what they've been working on outside of just PFS?
~Gentle yet firm enforcement of 'This is a group for PFS, not PFRPG in general'.
~Occasional contests?

I have a Facebook page

![]() ![]() |

I do not Fakebook.
If I Fakebook'd, I would lose my job, my residence, my internet, my ability to play Pathfinder, and would probably be living on the streets, attempting to get my 'fix' at internet cafes when I could finagle enough money for a prepaid phone, minutes, and data plan.
As a result, I have the fortunate side-effect of having a much more socially active and engaging life-style instead of face buried in my phone or computer compulsively waiting every two minutes for a post or update.
This is my experience with 'social media', and I am thankful I do not have it.
Other folks' mileage may vary, and I do not begrudge them that option Unless we're trying to board a plane with a very limited time window before the flight gets cancelled and you're sitting there trying to update your TwitterBook and holding up the line and putting that boarding in peril. Then you're on THE LIST.

Ultimately, it could be as minimal as posting links to the official store, forums, FAQs and having a blurb that explains what pathfinder is to people that have never played RPGs before (for when family members try to understand your likes). Sort of like a business card.
Merely having an official page would solve any confusion between the unofficial and the official. It doesn't require regular updates or real content.
You could certainly add content, which would be awesome, but I don't expect it.

I like Facebook.
It allows me to do my job, talk to people from my residence, pass time on the internet, communicate with other people that play Pathfinder, and.... I don't have something clever for the next bit.
Something about remaining socially active while being stuck behind a desk 60 hours a week... the convenience of having it at my fingertips even from a phone or computer, etc--devices I use to stay connected digitally with people while being alone physically.
That's my experience with social media, and I'm thankful I live somewhere where I can have it.
Obviously, other folks mileage may vary. I know several people without 'smart devices' who don't use social media--they are my parents and their friends. They stay communicated with people in a different way than I do.
*shrugs*
It's just a tool you can choose to use or not. Simple as that.

These forums can get super toxic at times. As bad as it gets on Facebook.
That's the reason why Chris only sleeps one night a week*--she needs more time to clean up the messes we make.
It's just a different medium that includes people from all walks of life, instead of people that just play Pathfinder and know paizo.com exists.

I like what you do with the tumblr page. Something similar with the facebook account would be cool. The forum has the problem that its not easy to share pictures. With facebook its really easy.
We have so many creative people in the community. I would love to see more of their awesome minis, terrain, home made dicholders and whatever else they dream up.

I avoid Facebook due to privacy issues, not toxicity. Toxicity is sadly a fact of life on the internet.
While I avoid FB and similar social network sites due to privacy concerns, I'm not suggesting that Paizo shouldn't have a presence there - only asking that Paizo avoid the almost ubiquitous pattern which has been emerging in other areas of moving primarily to social networks for providing information / resources.

To quell some concerns: we are *not* going to shift to a social media only model, and we don't have an interest in totally splitting the source of new information* (and really have no interest in it, because we kinda think our forum community on the whole is pretty awesome, and it's a great way for our employees to communicate directly to people, and it's full of years of pretty useful info).
However, the reality is that as Paizo grows, looking to other outlets is pretty necessary to cast a wider net to get information out into that great wild internet. Over the last year we've made an effort to make our outlets more useful to the people who use them (such as actually responding to comments, tweets, and asks). We've even been dabbling in live streaming, but are still working out a definite plan on that front.
When I ask "what do you expect to see on such a page?", the thought process is more of a "hey, if there's a need or want for this, we better do it right."
*With the exception of this year's convention updates. The tools we used for live blogging are under evaluation for whether they're totally effective/appropriate as a means of spreading this information. We also do recaps to ensure that that information *is* available on paizo.com at a point in time.
This is still going? Im still blocked from joining or seeing that group. After all the trolling I got there, I dont know if even trying to get back in is worth it.

Heya, we don't really feel comfortable pointing fingers at other online communities here. However, I can say that when we remove folks from our community (which is not often), it's after careful consideration of a whole team (not one person), and is generally for repeat toxic behavior or an extreme circumstance. We don't generally specifically call out what will contribute to a decision like that, because like many things Paizo does in terms of customer service/fan interaction, we consider it on a case-by-case basis.

With some of the issues concerning social media, if you were going start a page, I would suggest that it be set up for a view only and only people from the company can post (if possible). You will want it to point to where people can find what they are looking for like PFS, new products or such. You might have a list of conventions that Piazo staff plan on attending, maybe break down the world into regions to help the PFS VC/VL's coordinate regional activities, things like that.
Something to think about. Back when the message boards were getting spammed you had more control since it was your web site, elsewhere you will not have the same control. Also, you will not have control as to what FB advertises so you could have ads from a rival on the page.
