Warlock / Arcane trickster Idea!

Advice

Hi everybody

i'm studing the new Vigilante class and its archetypes, and i've got a cool idea to make a strong and fun character.

1 Braweler (Sneakbite)
2 Vigilante, Warlock
3 Vigilante / +1d6 sneak attack talent
4 Vigilante
5 Vigilante

Then Arcane Trickster 10, and the last 5 levels of warlock again or eldritch knight

Trickster is a strange class... it can inflict a lot of damage with sneak attack but it's not good at melee...
It can casts spells but it's safe DC will not be never good as a full caster.

So the best way to use it is to inflict damages with a ranged sneak attack, usually with some spells like scorching ray.

With warlock you got unlimited ranged attack (and makes it a contact attack, too) that you can improve with feats.
it deal just 2d6 damage, but you can use your sneak attacks with it!
So uses illusions or charme spells to help your sneak attack strikes, and uses arcane tricksters ability too.

With this build you will have a less "magical" trickster but you can saves your spell slots for utility and defensive spells and not just for rays!

With the right feats you will throws a 5 or more bolts (at high level) in a round, and if you can get the sneak attack works, they will hits for 9d6 of damage each!
More with the right feats!

This build has a better BAB than "regular" arcane tricksters, a better Fort safe and can cast spells while wearing light armor.
It also have Improved Unarmed Strike so it can make some damage with his fists while flanking (but most of the time avoids to go melee).

At last, i think that is also a nice PC for role play... making him a NG "simple minded" man on day, and a "warlock scundrel" CN at night with alot of skills and magics powers.

I think to make him human, cause it needs a lot of feats, like 2 weapons fights, rapid shots etc...

25 pt build

STR 8
DEX 18
CON 14
INT 18
WIS 10
CHA 8

Any ideas with feats and vigilante talents I should take?

At level 3 or 5 i need the one that boost sneak attacks damage by 1!

Thanks

The problem with ranged sneak attacking is that it only works for the surprise and maybe first round. Otherwise they aren't flat footed, and you can't flank with ranged to get sneak attack that way.

So you either need a way to reset your sneak attack at ranged.
Or
You need to go into melee and flank.

Once you've decided this we can help more.

You are level 15 till you reach Surprise Spells (and 14 untill Invisible Thief). What do you do in the meantime ?

If your GM agrees, UI's ranged feint feat and two-weapon feint might work for you. The latter specifies melee attacks but it was written when feint couldn't work at range. Between that and the usual ranged feats - point blank shot, precise shot etc. - you should keep your feat progression busy for a long time.

The warlock talents are probably better for you than the few non-specialisation specific talents.

The sneak attack feat you want is accomplished sneak attacker IIRC

I'am a 6 level caster with a wizard spellbook and a pretty high INT

So :

1 round: if i can make a full attack with all my "sneaked bolt" OR
2 round: use illusions, enchantment or field-control spells to negate enemies dex and then attack again!

And i can flank too, Warlock bolt can be melee weapons too, or i can use the Improved Unarmored Strike of my level 1 Brawler.

Last... i can combine Sneakbite with wild child to take.. a level 1 pet to use for flanking... (and a free Heal class skill)

@avr: Cunning feint would be even better as far as feinting goes.

@Forcy: Warlock bolts are pretty mediocre weapons. You cant enchant them and the damage doesnt scale well. They have two advantages: switch hitting (which you already seem to be thinking about) and mo' f#%!in' touch attacks

You need level 5 warlock, otherwise the whole builds doesnt make any sense and you are better off with a wizzard that throws daggers.

Its probably best to be in melee most of the time, and only switch to ranged if the action economy/mobility/terrain is unvafourable to melee. Cunning Feint helps if you dont have any other way to sneak. Then at level ~14 you should have plenty of uses of greater invisibility to make full range attacks at your pleasure.

I'm confused. I can't find a Brawler ability named Sneakbite, and I can't find a Vigilante Talent called Sneak Attack.

Oh. I knew about Snakebite Striker and Accomplished Sneak Attacker. That just isn't what the OP says. Weird.

I' don't think that warlok bolts are mediocre... ok, they are not to strong but with sneak attack damage they become stornger than the "normal" bolt.

Then with sleep, slumber, hold person, color spray, invisibility etc... you can "flat foot" your enemyes and make a full round attack with all your sneak available.

At level 7 with the right feat you can become invisible and trhow 4 "sneaked" bolt, each for 7d6 of damage!

The spells you listed are not effective anymore at the level you get them, at least not with your CL.

Which feat gives you greater invisibility at level 7 ?

i mean normal invisibility...

Um, it deals 1d6 + 1/level, so at level 20, you deal 1d6 +5 or 1d6+10 (if you take the last 5 as Warlock). Where did you get the 2d6 idea?

i'think it was:

1d6 + "1 more d6" every four levels...

1d6 + 1 is very bad...

Nope. the damage is 1d6 +1per every 4.
If it was adding 1d6 it'd say +1d6 every 4.

Yes it scales poorly. That's why there were so many threads asking how to make it a viable damage ability.

Liberty's Edge

For the record, it's pretty doable (Arcane Striker + Rapid shot and all the TWF Feats for lots of extra attacks).

But not as an Arcane Trickster. That's...not a good idea.

Why not go VMC Rogue and skip the Dip, getting full casting and more Talents from Warlock? I mean it means AT comes online later but it would still be decent i think.

Given the ability to go Rogue 1/Wizard 3/Arcane Trickster X...going Arcane Trickster on a 6-level class is a really questionable decision.

Normal Invisibility only gives you 1 sneak attack, the rest are normal attacks. You need greater invisibility to full round attack wihile staying invisible.

I'see...

the more I think the more it seems weak to me u_u

but wath about some spell that flat foot the enemies?

Or Hold person... Deep Slumber... and more..?

Otherwise...

1 LV sneakbite
1 LV warlock
3 LV Wizard
X LV Arcane Trikster?

Why the Wizard levels? Why not just straight Warlock?
