Am I correct in assuming that the "www" is not part of the email? Also, since you mentioned getting a bunch of submissions, should I bother sending anything in at this time? If so, are you looking for pitches, or simply an introduction and expression of interest?

I've been thinking about giants a lot lately, so this might be cool. Are you looking to each writer to create a single NPC? What should we be including in our pitches?

I can answer that it's a single NPC that you'd be creating. Mark would need to give the other details.

yeah, the www. isn't in the address. Shows how internet savvy I am.
I have received a bunch of submissions and some are much better than others. I welcome more.

Sadly, I've only received a couple pitches so far so I think I'll extend the pitch deadline until next Friday.
I was looking for information about the Porphyra setting and I see a lot of what seem to be supplements, but nothing that seemed to be the main setting document. Where would I look for that information?
I was considering submitting an idea but I know literally nothing about the setting.

Currently, the campaign setting is in development but there have been peeks at the setting across multiple books. You could email me at gedakm@gmail.com and I can send you a rough of the campaign setting in development or you could rummage through the setting website.
Most of our supplements are Porphyra-related as we started to build-up this kitchen sink landscape way back in Legendary I: Legendary Blades but things started to get more formalized and internally consistent starting with Gods of Porphyra.

Thanks Cardinal_Malik we hope for a broad range of giants in it as they were mininions/partners of the Elemental Lords before The Calling.
Sadly, I've only received a couple pitches so far so I think I'll extend the pitch deadline until next Friday.
This actually works out well for me, as I've got an idea I want to develop into a pitch, but haven't had the time to actually work on it.

Project Length: Various; enough to flesh out your archetype or other support (average300 - 500 words).
Pay Rate: Flat Rate: est. $10 - $15 per archetype, twisted spirit, etc – (average .02 - .03 per word)

We are seeking freelance designers to create archetypes for the classes and other support (twisted spirits for the warloghe, primary and secondary planes for the umbra, phenotypes, evolutions, etc) found within the pages of Liber Influxus Communis.
Submittal Process: The first process is to pitch us your idea. You may do so by emailing us Amore Game at Gmail. Our name is one word before the @. If we accept your pitch we will continue with a brief discussion on your estimated word count and what we are willing to offer. Once accepted by both parties we will move forward. All payments are made via paypal. Or you may message us on via our FB page right here. Additionally you may pitch us your idea via PM here on the message board.

Not going to be throwing 10,000 words down on an infernal/celestial cosmology for the umbra?

Expeditious Retreat Press is looking for authors for three 1 on 1 Adventures.
Project Length: 10k-14k words, with target of 12k words.
Pay Rate: $0.01 cent/edited word. Pay on acceptance via PayPal or USD check.
Additional details: I'm looking for three new adventures in our line of 1 on 1 Adventures. We've put out 16, I've one in manuscript form right now, and I'm looking for #'s 18, 19, and 20. 1 on 1 Adventures are for one player and one GM. Any expressing serious interest will be provided examples of published adventures for guidelines in terms of format and style.
1 on 1 Adventures require a different creative hand than standard adventures. For example, any magic that paralyzes is effectively a death sentence when there is only one player (barring the intent to capture, of course.) Prospective authors should take this difference into consideration.
I prefer site-based adventures over plot-based adventures (but any type of good adventure is desired), and am particularly looking for adventures for the more martial classes.
Respond by: I would prefer responses occur prior to May 1, 2015 to josephbrowning@gmail.com with title "Paizo Messageboard Call for Adventures." If you're interested, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Joseph Browning

Are you planning on going beyond 20 volumes for this line? It sounds really cool, and it's something I'd really like to try my hand at, but I've got enough on my plate already, and couldn't realistically take this on at the moment.

Yes, I'm planning on going beyond 20 volumes. I'm only focusing on the next three because I didn't want to leave a wide-open call for manuscripts here as some mentioned they prefer a limited-time submission window. If you don't have time to take it on now, don't worry. I have no difficulties waiting 6-12 months for a manuscript as the line's release dates are very fluid.
Sincerely,
Joseph Browning

Just sent off a new art order of two pieces to a new artist who approached me looking for work. I looked over their resume, and it said he worked with people that I knew personally. I liked their work and decided to give them a shot. In less that one hour this art was hired and working with us after send just ONE email. Tell me again how tough it is to breaking into OR get work in the RPG Industry?

Took me a while to get back to this thread, but thanks for the response! Is there any particular format you'd like for pitches? I have some ideas but nothing past the pitch stage yet.

So what would be considered a fair rate for an artist?
Like how much for line work, inked, colored?
Do people usually give discounts for multiple art pieces? Like "I'm X$ usually, but since you're ordering a bunch I will charge X-10$ per" ?
Soooo many variables-- experience of the artist, their available time, size of the image, color vs. black & white, level of detail, ect.
If you are looking to commission art your best bet is to ask an artist whose work you like for a quote after describing the project.

Here's the minimum guidelines for illustration work from the Graphic Artist's Guild Handbook of Pricing and Ethical Guidelines:
- B&W two-page spread: $500
- B&W full page: $500
- B&W quarter-page: $100
- Color spread: $700
- Color full page: $500
- Color quarter-page: $200
It goes without saying that most third-party RPG publishers cannot afford these rates (and I know I personally charge more for complex scenes). However, my piece of advice to publishers is to offer something. Anything. Even $10 bucks. Just not for free, and don't use the "exposure" or "portfolio building" line. Just...don't. It makes Baby Shelyn cry. (There is a time and a place for free work, but most of the time, it is not.) Be up front about what your rates are, and you'll save yourself a lot of unnecessary drama.
Another point to consider is: are you asking the artist to sign over all rights to the piece, or is it for that publication only? If it's the former, pay more (a lot more).

[Italicised Emphasis mine] And the same bolded part goes for written content too. That is not cool.

Corollary: If you, as an artist, are ever asked to do free work for the "exposure", run for the high hills. It's a scam, even if the person asking did not intend it to be such and genuinely believes it to be fair; furthermore, artists accepting free as a good rate only makes it more difficult for all artists to find for-pay work.

That gives a new meaning to "indecent exposure".

When I do professional illustration (game cartography) for the commercial publishing industry (not the RPG industry), I get the pay that Lilith introduced with the Graphic Artist's Guild Handbook of Pricing and Ethical Guidelines. I create the maps for video game strategy guides, like most recently the multi-player maps for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. (For those I only do full color work).
For the RPG industry its much less than that, but I never work for free, for exposure, nor for a possibility of royalty. Publishers must pay the quoted price at job completion. Simple.
Another possibility for publishers regarding illustration costs, once you have all the written work completed, and possibly doing a rough draft page layout with placeholders for needed illustrations and maps. Run a Kickstarter for $1000 or some defined reasonable goal to pay for those illustrations. This would be for hard covers or other larger publications like setting guides.

Ok everyone, I am trying something a bit different and unique here, so please do take the time to check out the detail on the link below.
I am not a publisher, I cannot offer money, only the chance to be put before Paizo in a different but constructive manner. It is a one off exercise that may or may not work out.
This idea is an open challenge that might interest new designers and artists wanting to break into the field through a public domain development to celebrate Paizo's up coming AP #100 achievement.
Feel free to PM me any questions or offers of participation after you have checked out that thread.
