Happy: I made it to the next round!
Sad: All of my ideas do not work for the Round 3 twists. Nerds.Back to the drawing board!
Same boat here. I am super un-enthused about this location, I have to admit, but that's the test of a designer too: it's easy when you can design according to whatever tickles your fancy, harder when the bosses need a monster for a certain location and you're like "ugh but I hate that location". Soo.... a test of how to make lemonade from lemons, here we go!
(Lemons for me anyway! Some people may adore the Darklands!)
eta and lest my whining be taken as a sign I'm not happy I made it here: nothing could be farther than the truth, I'm excited, honored, flattered, and other adjectives. Just going "Yaaaaaaaaay-- OH NO."
Congrats to everyone who made Top 16, and for my other fellow warriors, I salute you and hope to see you next year!

Big congratulations for the Top 16. Very excited to see what wierd Darklands monsters you come up with.
Looks like Team Jacob's blasting off agaaaiiinnn...!
Yeah, but we're all out of sync, now that you two both have TWO superstar tags. If only there was some way to fix that....

That's very true. The ability to be flexible and find things you like about settings (or rules, or adventure styles) you don't is a huge part of being a Superstar.

Congrats to the top 16! Now get on those monsters ;)
Condolences to the rest, and my fellow Alternates. Next year: FIRE AND BLOOD!
Related: As promised, I have made a thread requesting feedback on my map.
If you're one of the folks who didn't make it in, I'd sincerely appreciate your comments and feedback! If you did make it in, GET OUT OF THIS THREAD AND WORK ON YOUR MONSTER ALREADY.
Thanks bunches in advance!

Give us third ones next year?
Congrats to those who advanced. This twist has me really excited for the round. It's not one I expected (I think we should start having a guess-the-twist thread each year...) and it's got me wanting to really dive into Nar-Voth and come up with something myself! I like that you've got (slightly) higher CRs available too.
To those who didn't advance, sorry. I know how crushing that disappointment is, but there are lots of opportunities out there that you can take advantage of. Don't let it get you too down.

Congrats to the new Top 16!
To those cut this round, I want to say "Great Job". The general awesomeness of everyone's maps made the round 2 competetion very fierce. I know I was sweating making the cut until I saw the official list.
I am relieved and excited to have made it to the next round. I've also got a new pile of stress regarding monster design. Gotta go read the round 3 rules now ...

Hey everyone. I don't want to be overstepping my bounds in posting this, but time is short and I don't want folks lagging behind if there's even a slim chance of it happening.
Leviathan's End maker Jason Keeley posted that he cannot continue the contest. If you think you might have been close to getting in the top 16, then be prepared for the possibility that you might get bumped up!

For some reason the coding isn't working right (but it looks right when I it "quote") but if you just actually Google it you'll find what you need.

I only posted briefly before as I was running short on time so let me say a little more clearly/heartfeltly/accurately:
Congratulations to the rest of the top 16 and again, at the risk of sounding cliched and repetitive, it truly is an honor to be counted amongst you. I know the competition I am up against is fierce--and wouldn't want it any other way!
All of the top 32 also did a fantastic job in both rounds. The 50% elimination each round is rough. If you didn't (yet) make it into the top 16, you did your best and that is something to be very proud of. I hope all of you who desire freelance work submit everywhere you can, as soon as you can.

Well good job me, I just disqualified myself :P
In all seriousness, that's a big shame. I hope it's nothing serious and just a matter of not having time.

More than likely we won't have an answer for this until Paizo opens again tomorrow morning.
Jason, I already said it in your map thread, but good luck with the move and please make it to top 32 next year. I really liked your stuff and was hoping to see a cool monster from you. In fact, please still post a monster if you can!

My brother and I had a conversation that went something like:
"You should make a monster that's made of the stitched up remains of other bodies."
"That exists. It's a flesh golem."
"Okay, how about a stalactite that's actually an ambush predator that falls on you?"
"That's a piercer."
"Uh, a stalagmite then?"
"Roper."
"Well. I'm out of ideas."

"Well. I'm out of ideas."
Yeah, I've had multiple iterations of two variations on that one. One has been with the non-gamer friends, who suggest the monster that is actually fairly common in PF; the other has been me going "okay, guys, how about this" to my gamer friends, and them uniformly going "well, that sounds cool, but it's a little bit close to [obscure monster I have never heard of]" at which point I look up the monster, swear, and bang my head on a wall for a while.
There's been, what, 1000-some Paizo published monsters over 4 bestiaries?

dana, try this.
Pick what type of monster you want to create Undead, construct, abberation or whatever. survey the existing monsters of that type and then try and come up with something that is similar enough that it fits the general type of monster and but has its own twist to distinguish it from the rest.
chris, congrats on being done with your submission. I didn't want to be the first one to say it (for some reason) but I submitted my monster earlier this afternoon.

Super important post from Owen in another thread.
Just say no to psionics. Technically I think they could be considered 3PP rules and potentially grounds for disqualification.

I was reading the Monster Manual entry in wikipedia (looking for info on how many copies it sold), and came across this quote.
"As nothing is easier to design than new monsters, it has spawned a host of imitations."
So I don't see what the problem is, guys. :-)
Crap, the secret's out!
