I'm a huge fan of demons, but I like devils plenty.
The only thing I'm not a fan of is folks who claim that devils are "better" than demons because they're lawful instead of chaotic.
Devils and demons are equal in terms of what they can do to mess mortals up.
.
One of the reasons Jacobs isn't a fan of those of us who preach that Devils are greater than demons BECAUSE they're intelligent -- and lawful -- while demons are dumb, ie. chaotic -- is because the truth hurts.
It hurts them to acknowledge that that one extra hit point Demogorgan has over Asmodeus in the '77 MM is meaningless, despite their childhood nostalgia.
The sad, poor folks that think demons are as great as devils (ie. as intelligent -- or have any intelligence), really are sad and poor.
;)
It DOESN'T!
Not even a little!
.
By the way, look closely at Jacobs' post and you'll notice his exact words are...
devils are "better" than demons because they're lawful instead of chaotic.

Know Direction AP podcast is now up, with some more information.
Among other things:
The adventure takes place against a backdrop of all kinds of other uprisings and chaos going on in Cheliax, and the PCs will be essentially taking over Kintargo (about the same focus as was on Korovosa in CotCT).
1) Hell's Bright Shadow New ruler of Kintargo (a bad, bad, bad man), PCs join the Silver Ravens who are the rebels. Ties to some kind of familiar magic item.
2) Turn of the Torrent PCs are building up their resistance forces, the Order of the Torrent is reacting to it.
3) Dance of the Damned Resistance is spreading the word and fighting against Cheliax and House Thrune. Must invade a masked ball.
4) Song of Silver PCs openly declare war and make Kintargo their own.
5) Kintargo Contract PCs get hold of the contract Abrogail forged with Asmodeus and find loopholes (already described).
6) Breaking the Bones of Hell Can either make Kintargo a free city or things will be bad for everyone (depending how PCs do it). Will go into Hell at some point.
Vol 100: 120 pages long (32 extra pages). Adventure takes place in a converted temple of Aroden (largely). More on the AP retrospective (one of the Vancaskerkins will be one of the NPCs. And each part will be written by one of the authors of the APs it represents). Big map in it.

An element of underwater exploration in Hell's Rebels where you need to get help from Aquatic elves, Strix, the Desnans in Nidal's Borderlands. The city of Vyre will factor in to the AP somehow.
(I wonder if the Skinsaw Cult will make a reappearance?)
Strong possibility of using organizational buildup rules from Ultimate Campaign.
Strix PCs would not be in appropriate in this adventure, and may try to figure out how to work it out, but early days yet and they haven't talked about it too much. (Among other things, staying undercover as a Strix rebel might be problematic.)

So, does everybody expect the Chelaxian Inquisition?
Hah, *nobody* ever expects the Asmodean Inquisition! But you're not a Chelaxian, so have no fear; even if you bought this (evidently inferior and ridiculous) AP, there won't be any Hellknights bursting through your door in the middle of the night. ;)

There is not one part of that sentence that doesn't make me giddy.
I've been waiting for all three of those for a long time. And now we get to have them working alongside us?

Mikaze, how do you not explode in glee with WotR, Iron Gods, and Hells Rebels coming out together in such a short span of time?

These days I mostly just roll around on the floor until any dangerously excess glee has been released.
(don't forget Mummy's Mask!)

Does this mean that we will finally get an AP that has long enough stretches of aquatic adventuring to make it worthwhile to play aquatic/amphibious characters?

Probably not. From the way it sounds in that podcast, this will probably fit in as a part of one module (my guess would be during Turn of the Torrent, if only because of the title).
An underwater AP would be kind of cool, though.

Devils? Where? There are no devil "puppetmasters" in Cheliax, no secret conspiracies, and no unhappiness or unrest in the most Glorious Empire to ever exist on Golarion!
That's the best thing about adventurers... they introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes Chaos. I'm an agent of Chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about Chaos? It's fair!

Necromancer wrote:Nobody expects the Chelish Inquisition.Actually, I think Chelaxian is right.
Chelish describes something to do with the ethnicity (and so can just as well be from, for instance, Korvosa or Andoran), whereas Chelaxian describes things from Cheliax.
Chelaxian is the demonym (also a noun), while Chelish is the adjective. Chelaxian indicates a person from Cheliax, while Chelish describes something of or pertaining to Cheliax. We don't say "Nobody expects the Spaniard Inquisition."

I meant levelling her up.
Retraining rules exist and as the monarch of an empire, I'm sure she has enough resources to retrain those two levels of Aristocrat.

They have their uses. Beside, being an important character, she probably would have ways around the penalties to her bloodline abilities.

I'd be surprised if she didn't have the Devil Bound template from bestiary four.
Besides, based off some teasers James has said, I get the feeling Abrograil won't play a major role in the campaign. I almost wonder if the party won't ally with her to overthrow House Thrune and cast out the Devil influence in Cheliax.
He seems really convinced no one will guess the villain of Hell's Rebels, so we need to start coming up with crazy theories. Gotta prove him wrong and all that, you know?

Necromancer |

I was never particularly good with grammar rules, but wouldn't the Inquisition be made up of people from Cheliax?
Either it's filled with people from Cheliax, was formed originally in Cheliax, or claims to represent Cheliax. The adjective Chelish works for both occasions. Chelaxian, on the other hand, is a special case adjective-noun combination used to describe an individual. Some cultures use the same word as an adjective and demonym; for example, "Roman" can be used to describe something of or pertaining to Rome and can describe a citizen of the Roman empire.
And to make things more complicated, the adjective (such as Chelish) occasionally stands alone (when the noun it's attached to is deliberately dropped) when referring to multiple people, government agencies, military groups, and so on.

Well, at the panel he mentioned the name of the person who takes over rulership of Kintargo (I couldn't quite make it out, though). He also says that the AP will take the PCs to Hell.
So perhaps the replacement ruler is the main villain of the piece- he gets thrown out of Kintargo by the PCs, but continues to harass them, up to and including making a deal with devils to increase his personal power?
In any event, I suspect the "big bad" will be someone/something rather local to Kintargo, as it seems that the PCs rebellion there is going to be a self-contained event.

My money's on it rhyming with hellish, because that similarity is too good to pass up. Also, a link.

At this point, I've mentioned the villain's name in the seminar. He's a new NPC who hasn't been mentioned before in print is why no one would have guessed before then. It's not anything crazy or outlandish.

Although with this, if I can find a table in my city that'll be hosting this, I am going to go to town with my concept of an alchemist that openly states that he "love[s] to murder evil people, not kill, murder, the more laws I break while murdering evil people, the better."

Unless you're a coal miner. Then you can complain about anything you want. 'Cause that, my friend, takes its toll on a body.

That's it; all you guys are obviously dim-witted Andorans! I'm sending my imp squad to notify Richemar, and we'll see who'll get the last laugh!
Look, you're welcome to take it up with Severs Lictor Boneclaw. While he doesn't send flowers anymore, I still can't leave this tower and I doubt he would take to kindly to any transfer attempts. You should also know that I've taken up amateur note-covered archery and tend to aim at Eric Idle-shaped squires. Choose your messengers accordingly.

I hope that the AP shows that not every rebel is a good person, Demon worshipers and anarachists. After all, this can show some great moral choices for what does a paladin do when a normal noble family(perhaps Imodean but still nobles) are being hung up and facing mob justice, ala the french revolution?
