Sounds interesting...but then they all do at first!

I do like urban stuff, so fingers crossed

...and, of course, the Veiled Master at the heart of it all.

Would also love to see some details on other Hellknight Orders, maybe even some who are actually just actually carrying out the last orders of King Gaspodar and awaiting a proper heir to throne of Cheliax to arrive so that they can surrender what was lost at Korradath.

The ultimate dream would be for some love of evil in the AP with recommendations on how to run this for a black-hat party (even if not supporting Thrune, as apparently there is no legal requirement that the crown go to the heir of Abrogail I.)

Dude.

A PC Red Mantis Assassin or some other such "masked assassin/rebel" type.

At that masquerade ball.

In full assassin attire.

Walking right up to the target. Right in plain sight.

This has to happen.

Corvo Attani takes umbrage with this clear attempt at impersonation!

Possible predictions/wishful thinking:

1) Abrogail is listed in the Inner Sea World Guide and Inner Sea Magic as as an aristocrat 2/sorcerer 16. If she's intended as the "real final boss" of the AP, she'll be upgraded to a L20 sorcerer with PC gear and a couple artifacts, putting her on par with Elvanna and Karzoug at CR 20. Bloodline is up for grabs, since Infernal is the obvious choice (and perfectly useful), but something like Destined (which is very defense focused) would be interesting.

2) If Abrogail's left as an aristocrat 2/sorcerer 16, then that shifts "real final boss" status to her CR 20 Pit Fiend "adviser," Gorthoklek.

<meme>Why not both?</meme>

Fights with more than one foe are tactically more interesting and suffer less from mismatched action economy.

Sounds like they wanted to do something which did not require new rulebooks or big new gazettes on Vudra or psionics or whatever. Cheliax wouldn't be my first choice for a location. But hey, I got 4 other Adventure Paths I really want to run right now, so that's ok.

also is Wes doing an adventure for this, considering how well 7 days to the grave is received and how awesome his book of the damned entry is, it would be a damn shame if he didn't crank out a chapter:)

Plus, Wes is THE Devils guy.

I'd actually prefer a final battle with L20 Abrogail, Gorthoklek, and that erinyess who's also like a L15 inquisitor (plus even more), but AP encounter design usually means the final battle being "capped" at ECL 21 or lower (sometimes significantly lower - see CC or CoT). Paizo usually tries to stick with ECL +4 or +5 for a final battle, and it'd usually be a L16 party facing the final battle. A level 20 Abrogail plus Gorthoklek means at least ECL 22, going a little over the normal set guidelines.

Though a nice in-between point would be to have Abrogail as CR 20, along with the other high-powered devils set up as separate encounters who can easily link up with each other if the party fails to take adequate precautions.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

They could keep Abrogail at Aristocrat2/Sor16. That's CR 16, and still lets her contribute 8th-levle spells. That plus Gorthoklek is shy of CR 21. Gives you room for some mooks or that Erinyes inquisitor.

Or heck, just have her retrain those two levels into Sorcerer levels.

This explains what felt like a plethora of Kintargo-related stuff recently.

This will be an interesting AP to keep an eye on. Urban is normally not my "thing", but anything which promises to kick Thrune (and hopefully Hellknight) behind is certainly worth a second look! :)

Isn't there some rule that if you have both NPC and PC class levels, then the NPC class levels count for full?

Presumably as a BBEG she would have PC level wealth and at least a 20 point buy array. That's good for another +1 CR.

So put together that's CR 18.

As long as I get some material on House Thrune (either through the actual adventure path, its backmatter, or some Pathfinder Campaign Setting book), I would love to see the books listed. A Devils Revisited book might make me cry tears of joy.

They really don't like it when you call them a monkey.

IIRC, she took at the throne at the age of 16 in AR 4707, meaning she'd be 24 in an AR 4715 AP.

Damned if I can find the cite that gave her age, though. Just went looking through the Inner Sea World Guide and didn't see it.

twas in the old campaign setting that had her age

....erm, we started a home written campaign based in Tian Xi this week and it was the best PF session I have had in a while!

I do Lurve urban intrigue so I hope HR doesn't turn into 'some dungeons' or even worse 'some important npcs do some dungeons'....

its only a game, no offence taken at all

Well I was kinda of hoping for a Absalom based AP...this will do.

The Exchange

First thoughts: Cheliax ia cool, and I've been waiting for another urbam AP to happen for a long time. Sweet, got what I wanted.

Secondery, negging thoughts: I guess this is a "do council of thieves again but get it right this time" kind of thing. Which is fine by me because there was a lot to like in CoT, even if it was an overall somewhat failed AP. I wish they could ever do a story in Cheliax that was not about opposing the authorities in some way.

Things I would really like to know: who's writing the individual adventures, what will be the non-urban parts of the story, what kind of impact would the story have on the setting (end with overthrowing house thrune?) . Also, how mnay Hellknights will we get?

The Exchange

Is there a video of the AP panel somewhere?

I always had mentally pegged Abrogail as kind of a woobie evil guy, because she was a teenage queen. :p I guess if she is all grown out now, that mental image will fall by the wayside. Probably should have pegged here more in Joffrey territory in the first place, too. ^^

I don't think it would need to be, she may have been one when the setting was started but years have passed since then and the APs have timed forward with it. She'd be in her mid-twenties by now.

2) If Abrogail's left as an aristocrat 2/sorcerer 16, then that shifts "real final boss" status to her CR 20 Pit Fiend "adviser," Gorthoklek.

3) It'd be interesting if it was possible to have a diplomatic victory against Abrogail, getting her to yield the throne and step aside. Though getting rid of that pit fiend might be a pre-req!

4) Dark horse "real final boss" candidate - Alichino the Jester Prince, Golarion's malebranche, might actually be pretty cross if Hell's biggest foothold on Golarion changes allegiance. He might be saved for the "Continuing the Campaign" section.

5) Mr. Jacobs and Mr. Schnieder may be co-developing this AP. I'd certainly expect Mr. Schnieder to have an active presence in the AP.

6) Even though this AP wouldn't go mythic, getting archduke write-ups and statblocks (particularly for Dispater, Belial, and Mephistopheles, though Dispater's "god" article already happened in Kobold) would be fantastic.

Or she could be as is but with Gorthoklek at the same time. That way all the final boss CR isn't in one basket.

And I see Ross Ninja'd me.

Watch Avatar: The Last Airbender, CapY. Not the horrible Shyalalalalalaman movie, the three-season cartoon. It is one of the best TV shows ever created, both in story and in execution. Plus it's pretty kid-safe. You can probably get yours interested and watch it with them.

So note to self: Make sure Abrogail has chain lightning on her spell list.

It might be kind of cool to see some kind of optional "what if...?" product that showcased a post-AP Golarion.

I would love such a book in ways that weren't natural. With Pathfinder Unchained toeing the line of "unofficial options," maybe the follow-on could be Golarion Unchained and provide visions of possible futures for various potential AP outcomes.

Buuut, to address the actual thread here, I'm haltingly interested in the AP announcement. I have zero interest in Mummy's Mask or Iron Gods, and the Giant-themed one didn't pique my curiosity enough to even remember the name.

Leading a rebellion in Cheliax, however, sounds kind of persuasive. I look forward to seeing how it develops.

I agree with you, Fletch. (Well, aside from Mummy's Mask and Iron Gods). I was thinking of suspending my subscription with Giantslayer, which doesn't wow me (and I already more material than I could need and finances), but what I'm reading about Hell's Rebels may/will probably get me to re-up after it's over.

It sounds like a great "roleplaying" centric AP, plus- if it makes use of some of the organization and downtime rules from UC- that right there whets my appetite in so very many ways.
