This is the thread for you: GiantSlayer! what do we know?

Thanks!

I hope it doesn't deal with the Dominion of the Black specifically.

I use the Dominion as a way to incorporate mindflayers in my homegame. Paizo ever actually spills the beans on what they are and it'll be a whole lot of information that's useless to me.

I highly doubt it will be Dominion of the Black themed, since

spoiler:
Iron Gods will have been so recent and has lots of Dominion content.

That being said, if you specifically DON'T want official Paizo Dominion content, you should probably steer clear of

spoiler:
Part 4 of Iron Gods: Valley of the Brain Collectors, which has a full article on that organization...

Good points Joseph.

We've only got a few more days to break this story. What do we have figured out so far?

Liberty's Edge

Okay, it's down to the wire. We have only hours until the news finally breaks. It's time to get in our final guesses and see how close we can get.

My final guess is a Dominion of the Black-centric AP based in or around Cheliax.

You are forgetting the other thing that's 'near' Hermea...
Mordant Spire.

Although, given what we learn about the Mordant Spire in Mythic Places, it seems unlikely...

My final guess is that it lead to the drow in the Dark Lands. Because Gygax.

I'm still thinking its something to do with the missing Pathfinder Chronicle #5, though where/what I'm not sure of.

Having read some of the thoughts by others here, I'm going to guess it's either Absalom urban AP, or some sort of Darklands adventure. I lean a bit more heavily towards the Absalom option, but maybe that's just wishful thinking.

IIRC, Erik Mona mentioned he had one more article he needed to write for the Pathfinder #100 ("A doozy" he called it). If this is about the missing Pathfinder Chronicle, and it is set on the Isle of Kortos (in/around Absalom, primarily), could it be that it will involve the Spire of Nex? And that that might be Erik's article?

My guess is still an underwater Azlanti themed AP.

I would love that sort of adventure, Roysier. "The Search for the Lost City of Azlantis!" Heh

If we go by prophecy, I had a dream last night that said it was gonna be the dwarf Sky Citadel AP. But we know how unreliable prophecy can be on Golarion. ;)

But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of Erik: is he the sort of man who would drop authentic clues on the messageboards or deliberately mislead us? Now, a clever man would know that the word doozy comes from daisy. Only a great fool would not see the treant or assassin vine connection. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly predict some deep woods AP in the works. But Erik must have known we were not great fools, he would have counted on it, so we have to rule out a plant-themed AP.

But the latin name for daisy is bellis perennis. The bellis meaning pretty and the perennis meaning everlasting. So, we're probably dealing with a beautiful immortal. And beautiful immortals are used to having people trust them, as we trust Erik, so I can clearly see a outer-planes, meet-the-gods AP. But Mona would have known we would have guessed that--he would have counted on it--so it's clearly about something very mortal and very ugly.

Just wait till I get going! Now, where was I?

Ah, yes, ugly mortals. We're slaying some giants, which means we're exceptionally strong, so we could believe another imposing enemy like dragons or wyverns, trusting on our strength to again save us. But, we've also got the new ACG with a swashbuckler and investigator, which means we would have studied strike, and in studying we must have learned that man is mortal, so we would have made AP something with puzzles and riddles and traps, so I can clearly see an urban or underdark AP in our future.

I tell you, I know. Mona has given everything away! I know what the next adventure path is! And I predict--what in the world can that be?!

Actually, revisiting my idea on Karzavon's resurrection in Varisia somehow involving the Shadow Plane, Zon-Kuthon/Dou Bral (article in #100), and the Brotherhood of Bones. I was doing some poking around the PFWiki just for crits and grins, I was looking around for possible replacements for Karzavon, and I found another interesting possibility:
http://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Kedretitas

An umbral dragon servant of Zon-Kuthon. Now it's from a novel, and I seem to recall them saying that novels aren't necessarily canon. The Vale of Shadows and Elistia might've made for an interesting place to launch an AP though.

But yeah, my guess for the most likely is the AP involves the missing PF Chronicle 5 (or possibly even 6, if 6 is merely a forgery to cover up the disappearance of Durvin Gest.) I still find it a little bit strange we have Gest reportedly describing some events that takes place after #5 supposedly relates to his rumored death or disappearance.

So you're saying the next AP is about Osirion and Aucturn?

So who was "so close they're practically right? I'm guessing it was Dreaming Psion:

Closest I could find after a cursory glance through the thread. Anyone else?

Feel free to throw out the actual details whenever you guys are ready.

So, Against the Giants and then Slavers?

Samy wrote:

Without more details it sounds like neither.

I haven't seen anything that Giantslayer is going to be an homage to G1-3 and I have no idea how Hells Rebels is being tied to the Slavers series (A1-4).

Need more details to see if these two APs are actually tributes to those old series or if they just have some trappings and are their own beasts.

I don't know anything about Hell's Rebels. I don't know if that's the name of the AP or just the title of Mikaze's announcement thread. Assuming Hell's Rebels takes place in Cheliax: Cautious Yay!

Cheliax. "Familiar" due to previous AP Council of Thieves? PFS Season 5 mission for Cheliax faction had to do with finding nasty stuff. They found it? Now the world needs saving?

I think that was the only mention of Cheliax *after* James Jacobs issued his challenge? It was my *only* guess; it was not part of a mass volley. Does that mean there's some love for Uri? Fingers crossed! :D

(I'm not at GenCon but "Hello!" to my peeps out there!)

Hell's Rebels is the AP it starts (or is set) in Kintargo, Cheliax, as far as i know (i'm not there) it will inlude building up Kintargo, Strix, and a costume ball of some sort.
Richard Pett and Sean K. Reynolds are both writing a part.

This costume ball bit sounds like a great opportunity for some non-combat adventuring.

Ever since reading the Mastermind and Cleaner entries in the ACG, I was thinking that I would love to see a designer utilize those archetypes as NPCs, so that you could provide skill/RP challenges to PCs without directly involving your villains (for instance, if that villain is a higher level challenge him/herself). The costume ball could be a great way to do that- have some of the NPCs being "coached" by your Mastermind at the party, for instance. Confusion added to confusion (due to disguises).

Thanks to everyone for playing along with me on this. It was fun to speculate and sleuth. I'm surprised I guessed the location correctly, even if I was off base with the rest. Now to read all about Hell's Rebels!

This is good to hear. Eventually it will be a ton of fun to visit Tian Xia but not yet. There are SO many places in the Inner Sea yet to go!

I can't think of any places in the Inner Sea left that I would like to go to except Hermea.

A future AP in one of these places would fluff my fur...

Mediogalti Island (Dance of the Mantis)
Mwangi Expanse (Gorila King)
Five King's Mountains (Dwarven Super Dungeon)
Absalom (Anything that fleshes out the city!)

If I keep posting this wish list enough I know Paizo will just do it.

PS: I like the Iron Gods AP more than I thought but I'd still like to see some more "classic" adventures. I hope Giant Slayer is that. I'd love to feel like I did the first time I read Halls of the Fire Giant King.

Well the Five King's Mountain does sound interesting but I can't stand the red mantis and we already got to fight the Gorilla King. As Absalom, I agree it needs fleshing out but I can't stand campaigns that take place only in one city.

But Absalom is one BIG BIG city....

Not that I want one in Absalom...but just saying...

Still want the distant worlds and Tian Xia at the top of my list.

Wouldn't mind a Five Kings Mountain one though...but that area seems more set for modules than the APs thus far.

Probably the easiest to do in terms of existing content:
I'd be interested in Tian Xia-post Jade Regent.

Something that requires a bit more work:
Elemental themed arc would be nice (not necessarily like the classic Temple of Elemental Evil.) Something for those who have elemental origins such as ifrit, slyphs, undines, and so forth.

I would suggest a construct themed arc. Constructs are frequently used as minions, but never have a mind of their own or act in a mastermind capacity. That said the current Iron Gods AP deals with that. Though I was looking for a more magical-themed one as opposed to tech. You know one day mindless constructs "wake up." How would Andoran (anti-slavery) sentiment interact with the concept that traditional constructs (flesh, stone, iron, etc, carytid, iron cobras...) are property and so forth.

Homage to Greyhawk:
Slavers, Drow.

The Golem crafting mage-family (Ardoc) of Kaer Maga (or, to a lesser extent, Magnimar) might make for an interesting seed point for this sort of AP, or standalone adventure.

Using animated constructs from the Bestiary and Ultimate Magic (p 112), in place of actual golems, would make the lower levels more palatable.

It has. The next AP after Giantslayer is Hell's Rebels. Here's the scoop on that.
