a) Will there be a campaign trait like Iron Gods' "Robot Slayer", essentially a Lesser Favored Enemy (Giant)?
Something like that.
b) Will there be friendly giants?
b1) If yes, will there be a romanceable giant? :D :D :D
Maybe, but mostly unlikely.
c) What would you say is the ratio between outdoors/wilderness and indoors/dungeon/underground encounters? Is it more of an wilderness AP or more of a dungeon crawl AP?
We're trying to have a good mix of both. Maybe a bit heavier on the indoors/dungeon crawls, but plenty of outdoors action too.
d) What about the sandboxy versus linear spectrum? Can you do a lot of things out of order (within each book, obviously, not the books themselves out of order) or are the adventures more a to b to c?
Again, we're trying for a good mix of both. The first adventure, "Battle of Bloodmarch Hill," is very sandboxy. "Forge of the Giant God" and "Ice Tomb of the Giant Queen" have a lot of sandbox elements, along with some smaller indoor/dungeony areas.
e) Are there any politics involving border crossings? Will there be incidents where the party will need to cross from one country to another through a watchpost? Is there any point where it's meaningful which country the party is in? Or is the whole AP more, weaving back and forth across borders and nobody really cares because it's up in the mountains?
The AP is not about national borders; it's about stopping an extranational giant threat.
f) Which of the six books do you think has the coolest "elevator pitch" or hook? Can you tease anything about it?
"Shadow of the Storm Tyrant."

Against the Giants, Paizo-style! Ooh, I just can't wait for this! :D
(Rob, send me a PM containg all the secrets of this AP, or my imps will teleport into your house and replace all your clothes with Schneider's "secret" stash of, eh, ladies' undergarments!)
um, those were mine, please tell your Imp to get the right f@ing address next time!

Wow.
Rob, thank you -- I was not expecting this much candor this early in development.
Thanks to you, Adam as well.
Question:
In Mike Selinker's masterpiece, "Lear, Giant King" from Dungeon 78, we have the greatest published "Completely-Giants-Featured" adventure of all time.
For this AP's inspiration, in addition to the banal-even-in-1978, grognaridian hack-&-slash from G1-G3 -- and hopefully other well known (Fortress of the Stone Giants) or novel ("Fire Giant's Daughter" also by Wolfgang Baur) giant adventures -- will this AP pay homage in style or theme to the greats, (for us Grognards) as well as adding the next chapter in giant-themed-adventure evolution?
Obviously you can't rehash Fortress from AP#4; that'd be dumb. And obviously you can't make a spiritual successor in a King Lear-inspired Storm Giant adventure or even have a petulant Fire Giant daughter ask the PCs for help from an overbearing father.
But since both authors (Mike Selinker created Pathfinder Card Game, right? & Wolfgang Baur) work really well with Paizo -- will they both be contributing to this project, either with ideas or actual articles / adventures?
Thanks
(And here's hoping that at least one of the adventures in the new AP reaches the greatness of Selinker's Masterpiece -- one of the top 10 or so adventures in the 2E era, let alone the greatest Giants-Themed adventure)

There's more info in the Know Direction Adventure Path podcast, now up.
Including:
Overview- Storm Tyrant is gathering together a giant army. His floating cloud castle gives him a mobility advantage that makes him a big threat.
Some artifact themes in this AP. Some classics like Hammer of Thunderbolts and Orb of Dragonkind, as well as others. (The orb means there will be dragons in this AP.)
The first adventure, Battle of Bloodmarch Hill, takes place on a hill in Belkzen formerly known as.... Trunau!!!
Irnk, Dead-Eye's Prodigal |
I think he means Orb of Dragonkind...
It is an artifact that allows complete control over a dragon within range of the same color as the orb itself. There is supposedly only one of each color/metal.
We know that the Blue one is somewhere in Hell & way too big/powerful* to be moved. We also know that at least one has been destroyed, since the Gold Dragon responsible for Hermea has gifted shards which have been confirmed to have come from a destroyed Orb to friends/allies. I think those are the only ones we know of...
I too am curious regarding this.

... uh, all these horrible 80's style clothes are *yours*? Captain, pink is *so* yesterday, you know?
My apologies, I shall have imps flogged and sent to Citadel Vraid immediately! Um, I'd like to have Schneider's Secret Lingerie Collection (TM) back, so maybe you can send them to Westcrown?

In said hypothetical dwarves vs orcs AP, would we be able to side with the orcs?
Little more on topic, which iconics are going to be featured in Giantslayer's artwork?

Okay, I'm getting excited for this, especially with the Dragon Orb revelation. Don't know how likely any of these are, but it'd be cool to see:
-Giant King riding a gigantic dragon, leading an invasion.
-Giant Vampires (since giants are technically humanoid, dominate and spawning are good to go)
-War Machines of the Giants (we know they can build monuments, but what else can they make...)
-How giants of different races view one-another. I know that in older editions (and mythology) fire giants and frost giants were mortal enemies, but don't know if this carried over to Pathfinder.
I would honestly worry less about a Ranger plowing through the path than I would an Enchanter. Since giants are all considered humanoids and most have pretty bad will saves, I hope something will help against a 7th level wizard recruiting his own army from within the module.

Here is the blurb from the new Pathfinder catalog:
Deep in the Mindspin Mountains, a storm giant warlord known as
the Storm Tyrant has seized control of a cloud castle and an Orb of
Dragonkind, and is gathering an army of giants
from across western Avistan—first to bring the
orc hordes of Belkzen under his banner, then to
conquer the neighboring realms.
Heroes defending the human town of Trunau from an orc raid
discover that the attack is just a precursor to the Storm Tyrant’s
larger plans. Working their way through an abandoned border
fort, an ancient giant temple, the tomb of an undead frost giant,
and an elite fire giant training facility beneath a dormant
volcano, the heroes eventually take the fight to the Storm
Tyrant himself inside his flying fortress. Can the giant army
be defeated before it can conquer the human lands of the
Inner Sea, or will all of Avistan bow down in fealty to the
Storm Tyrant?

I thought in Castles of the Inner Sea the Storm Giant in question was a woman? Did I misread something, or is that a different floating castle?
this is probably a different castle considering the map in the book shows it near the ironbound islands and not even close to the hold of belkzen.

Aren't sky castles mobile?

What would make for a truly interesting twist is if the Orb in question... controlled one of the Good Dragon species. So you have metallic dragons forced to attack villages... and the players forced to attack them.
Even better, a Paladin's Smite Evil would be useless against them. ^_^
Smite evil aside, I'm always up for getting to crack out some of the good monsters as adversaries. Especially if they have their own (perfectly valid) reasons for opposing the PCs, but mind control certainly works too :)
Cheers!

Tangent101 wrote:Even better, a Paladin's Smite Evil would be useless against them. ^_^Unlikely. Even if the race of Good dragons is Good as a race, the particular individual mind-controlling others to force them into killing villagers would most certainly be Evil.
I think that was "wouldn't be able to use Smite against the controlled metallic dragons". Against the big bad controlling them, certainly.
Shadowkire |
Except with Pathfinder story conventions there will be at least 1 metallic dragon that found it liked killing people and turned evil...
And there will be a strong-willed or uncontrolled dragon who will help you past the good dragons but you will be forced to fight the guardian of the orb who is... You guessed it! The evil metallic dragon!
End result: Paladins are not too phased.

Does anyone know what the urban/wilderness/dungeon ratio will be on this AP? I watched the AP GenCon panel and followed the thread so I'm assuming urban will be pretty low but my concern is the description makes it seem like it relies heavily on dungeons, giant-themed dungeons ala Against the Giants, but dungeons none the less.
