There should be a decent shakeup this week.

It sounds as if Elkhaven may be moving. It's been fun to compare writing to map to try to discern intent.

With the presence of Kabal, moving into 14th place (so far) from non-existence a week ago, you'll not be proved wrong, Virgil.

Week 10 isn't all that matters. For many of us, especially those of us with fewer than 50 members, the intervening time is about finding like-minded groups and forming alliances.

You also need to look at it more objectively.

The land rush isn't the be-all and end-all of the game. It's a PR tactic on the part of GW, to keep the attention of people who have been waiting for a year or more, (who may be getting a little restless) and generate interest and excitement among new people.

It shouldn't provide the winners a significant bonus, but needs to be worth getting people to convince their friends to plunk down money for EE.

Having a different opinion doesn't mean I'm not looking at it objectively, thanks. I'd simply prefer the process have a little more stability than it has.

Goblin Squad Member

Unfortunately, Toombs, stability can lead all-too-easily to stagnation, and then there'd be little point to there being a 10-week process. Unless the length of the process is, in itself, somehow a part of the problem, but I see that window at least somewhat dictated by the already-mentioned marketing benefit to Goblinworks.

Yes, but I've made the same interpretation, so obviously it must be correct. :]

Goblin Squad Member

To everyone's credit, the predictive power of the calculations held up in Week 2, so there's reason to hope we have a decent view on Week 3 for tomorrow morning.

Apologies if that sounded condescending.

I generally find that people are inclined to look at it from the point of view of the game, rather than the people who want to make money from the game.

Kabal continues their relentless march across the leaderboard.

Goblin Squad Member

With 2 mergers that I've heard of and the arrival of Kabal it could be a group or two actually moves up their preference list tomorrow too.

Goblin Squad Member

I suspect the land rush is to give the forum a new focus until EE. Discussions were getting <Lisa would not want me to say>.

A group showing up with massive numbers in the final week is not an unexpected outcome. No action will be taken.

You mean no action will be taken other than giving them their Settlement ;-).

Goblin Squad Member

In other news: YONAS - Ye Olde Nasty Adventuring Society, has apparently disbanded, taking away the six votes that had them in the Top 40. The Lightbringers are now officially on that bubble.

Does anyone know whether YONAS has joined another Settlement?

In the oh-so-close sweepstakes: Open Road has a pending vote they've not yet approved. If they do approve it before midnight, they'll jump into 28th place, knocking out Four Rivers Mercenary Corp, holders of Site T; if not, they'll miss out this week.

EDIT: corrected per Giorgo's input below.

Goblin Squad Member

@Jazz

A clarification , the Lighbringers (LR2 guild) is separate from The Lightbringer Company (LR1 registered guild), the latter is the one I lead and which Joined Forgeholm. :)

Goblin Squad Member

I think we contacted YONAS, but never even got a how-do-you-do.

Thank you very much for that! A couple of us had wondered; I'll make corrections.

Kabal, not with us one week ago tonight, has now stepped into 10th place, with 31 votes.

EDIT: less than three minutes later, 9th place, 32 votes.

Goblin Squad Member

Which means they are about to break into the lead of what I call the Third Pack. I wonder where their numbers came from, or if they just held off on voting until now, seeing how the political scene shaped up before committing.

Goblin Squad Member

Gol Morbis wrote:

For folks curious about the numbers there: two more votes will put Kabal in 8th, but they'll then need 12 votes past those to step up to 7th.

EDIT: all these notes are based on the simplification that the groups ahead of Kabal in vote-totals add no more. It's a simplification, and not an assumption, because it won't happen.

Very few groups in the Top 30 have remained stagnant, regardless of their position on the leaderboard.

Goblin Squad Member

Yeah were were looking at that gap when making our plans.

Its tough to pick up double digit votes... so I hear ;)

Goblin Squad Member

Yes, like the double digits "3" and "2".

Goblin Squad Member

What will be fun is when at the end of next week I disband and join Aseveljet.....

Goblin Squad Member

Any group with the motto "Hack Them Up!"--especially in Finnish--deserves more than six votes...duh.

Goblin Squad Member

Indeed.

They speak English pretty well though, I however fail at Finnish.

Goblin Squad Member

I too fail at finnishing my senten

I've inserted crude numbers for the landrush bonus for this week, but have hidden them as they aren't real yet. (We won't know until we find out who moves and who stays put later today.

I've said it before, and I'll say it in future: thank you for all your work, Caldeathe.

Thanks so much for keeping up with this!

While we wait:

Alignment Breakout, Week 3
Good: 597
Neutral: 391
Evil: 79

Lawful: 353
Neutral: 610
Chaotic: 111

All we can count right now is those groups which've declared themselves, of course, so this's by no means definitive. We're all in a holding pattern for a while, though, so what the heck?

Goblin Squad Member

What's taking so long? Did someone implode the map? The Kabal chain reaction in effect?

The results weren't up this early in either of the previous weeks.

Goblin Squad Member

This week is going to be interesting... the question is... how interesting?

Correct. They usually don't have anything ready (whether blogs, LR updates, or usually even any forum posts) until at least 10am PDT. My guess is that they get into the office between 8am-9am, then have a meeting on Monday morning at 9am that lasts up to one hour. From there, it's a crapshoot as to what time they begin posting things.

Yah. In Week 1, we had the Sick Toddler Effect; perhaps Lee recognised a bit of useful precedent-setting that allowed him time for some coffee while compiling results, as he gave us Week 2 half-an-hour later than he had Week 1.

Goblin Squad Member

Did anybody notice that if you aren't on the Paizo boards, you didn't actually get a landrush update last week, because there was nothing posted on GW about the second week?

Goblin Squad Member

I actually didn't notice, but then I also stalk the forums so I knew about it anyway ; ).

Grand Lodge Goblin Squad Member

Watching the World Cup (Germany against Portigal) while waiting. So GW has 45 more minutes before the game is over

Goblin Squad Member

Last week's update was right about an hour from now, so everyone have some deep breaths. We'll survive...somehow.

EDIT: ...and as I wrote, that, Lee published! Go and read.

The Bastard Sons of Daggermark have the fascinating distinction of being the only group to've occupied three different sites in the three weeks of the Land Rush: first A, then S, and now P.

Ah, they are just lookee-loos. Trying out various sites before deciding what they really want. :-)

Good lord, you're right; that's well-spotted. I'd not noticed they've gone from mountain to forest to plain in their peregrinations.

Well, if you want a list of all 155 guilds currently listed through the Goblinworks website that updated every 15 minutes with membership in one long page view...

Tada!

There's a bug where it mis-pulls the website link as the motto in groups that have 0 members, but I'll fix that tonight when I have some time.

Oooh... very useful! Also, takes the three Land Rush 1 winners out of the ranking while leaving them in member order. Thanks!
