Perhaps that's because you have no shipping address :)

Good point. Best fix that, as I do like cookies!

I was only trying to drop some kudos on Virgil for his work.

I have that sheet up constantly.
So I would say that's a fair compliment.

If people want it to do more, they should make their own.

Or take screen shots.

or put into an excel spreadsheet every 10 minutes, and then summarize the data based on changes into a clearer picture of where people might be moving around to...
not that I did any such thing.

Its also does not help when numbers vanish for long periods of time, or new people come in (more adds then there are subtracts, even over a period of more than one week). SO in the end its all just interesting data, that will never be 'proof' of anything.

But....but... what does real proof have to do with anything? That really doesn't sound like fun.

Goblin Squad Member

Due to Hand of Abraxas' loss of votes, Open Road has again--for now--re-entered the Top 30. Unless I've lost track of another candidate, that now makes them the group that's crossed in and out of the Top 30 most often; it's not the most vital achievement, of course, but it is an achievement!

It has nothing to do with anything. Because ultimately your secret identity *cough*Andius*cough* will be revealed!

Goblin Squad Member

I hope no one finds out my super secret alter ego. That would certainly be smurfy.

Goblin Squad Member

He can't be Andius, I'm Andius.

No wait, I'm Bringslite.

Stop confusing me.

I can neither confirm nor deny that there are "other" personalities onboard this ship....

You guys need a new hobby. Or maybe just a few towers to war over.

Goblin Squad Member

So, to try and get this back on track...There's not much going on this week in the landrush. It almost seems like some people have been reduced to spreading their membership around for a few days, just to try to bump up some activity in the communities that are borderline.

Of course, none of us would ever do that, would we?

Yes, let's get things back on topic. Which one of you monsters is cheating?!

Would it be Super-President?

The sixties super president.

"Hi Is!" Points to his left.

Goblin Squad Member

It is not cheating. It is creative accounting. You do want us to be creative don't you?

Goblin Squad Member

If we get caught not cheating, can we win something like this?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's not not cheating unless you don't get caught.

Kobold Cleaver wrote:

Excellent, so I'll fess up now to exonerate myself.

Goblin Squad Member

Let's put this back on topic.... did anyone change rankings this week? I just make the tools. I don't read them.

Goblin Squad Member

Virgil Firecask wrote:

- Hand of Abraxas has fallen to three votes, but they also gave up quite a few last week, then put them back on, so presumably they're doing some of the same intra-week shuffling as their very-much-larger competitors. If they don't come back into the Top 30, however, Open Road will re-claim #30

- RiverBank has gained one position on Elkhaven, swapping #15 and #16 of the Top 30

- That's it for changes with one day and a few hours left to go; this has been the calmest week yet in the Land Rush

Goblin Squad Member

Week 8 and Week 9 results will probably be mild. But Week 10, the joys of watching the chaos.

Also, Kabal has a whopping four votes in their queue.

Goblin Squad Member

Got bored and fixed a bug in the info pulls (the bug only happens once per week, so it's likely nothing you've noticed).

Also, I added an additional column. Each settlement's ranking change from the previous week.

Actually, Riverbank was ahead of us last week, too. We briefly passed them (for about a day) then two members slipped away into the night dropping us back to our previous position.

I think. But then again, who am I to know?

Goblin Squad Member

I believe Riverbank is very happy where they are, just a Emerald is; and many others. But week 10 must be thought out. THere mate be some just waiting to bloom then. Then again, I may just be paranoid.

This could very well happen, I would not be surprised if a group of 100 or more came out from nowhere and unseated any but the original 3.

Goblin Squad Member

Part of the purpose of the Land Rush was to give us seeds for community-building, and I've seen a lot of those seeds take root. Could someone please explain to me the "fun" in bringing in a large group, all at once, in the last week?

I hope the answer's not something disheartening like "We're bringing in 100 of our already-friends. Because we've so many, there's no need to make friends with any of you".

The fun is one sided: Shock and awe. Surprise, disappointment and despair. All for the "lolz".

At this point, what % of the eligible accounts actually voted so far?

If someone is keeping track.

I'd guess about 25%*, but personally, I think any such number is pure guesswork. Some people just wanted the PDFs, others will have cooled since understanding the PvP nature.

* We can count about 1500 votes cast so far out of a possible 6,000ish

I agree that this if it should happen can have the affect of being shocking or awe inspiring, but it should not be seen exclusively as a negative.

I can guarantee you, if out of nowhere 10,000 people purchased $100 dollar EE access keys today, Goblin Works staff will be doing cart wheels down the halls.

Many of us have been conjecturing about OE and expecting to see some pre organized groups coming over in mass from other games. I would rule out that happening in Week 10 of the land rush. That very much falls within the cultural aspects found in sand box MMOs.

Goblin Squad Member

Kabal grabbed a handful of votes and jumped up above Blackwood Glade.

I expect it's of a piece with the "fun" in putting a small amount of something you own in the wreckage of the ship you just destroyed in EVE, so that when they came back to salvage what they could they would be flagged as hostile to you so you could kill them again. Or with befriending some newb in town and then taking him out into the woods and killing him as soon as he engaged the mobs you said you were going to help him kill.

Personally, I don't get it.

- Kabal has climbed to #10

And just watch our numbers climb in week 10!

Week 10 may just fizzle out and be just like any of the previous weeks, with just a little bit of moving around. Or we could see a big explosion of folks moving around as they realize that "This is it! We have to move to where we will be the happiest!"

Folks could go "I really want to do mining/farming/hunting/marshing/quarrying and my current settlement can't/won't do that because of their location. However, these guys over here have hexes where I can do my thing, so I will go join them. I can still game with my friends but I will be happier over here doing xyz."

Or they could just stick it out and be happy to have any settlement anywhere.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

On your second point I agree, I don't like the betrayal aspects of it.

On your first point, you are apparently misinformed. That is not how it works in EvE. Wrecks can be freely salvaged by anyone without triggering hostility. Also, unlike jet cans, items placed in a wreck will not trigger a hostile flag for the original owner who takes the items. Wrecks eventually turn "blue" which means they can be looted or salvaged by anyone, but to be honest I don't know how they get that state. I never go back to my own wrecks, and never leave loot behind in my kills.

Yeppers! I'm really starting to think we should be a CG settlement instead of NG one. Seems more fun that way.

Now if we could just get the other 10 or 15 Kaballers who are busy playing a couple of other games and can't be bothered to sign up here, finally on board ....

I'm going to suggest to Sunnfire that he stop their cookie rations at the beginning of week 10 and no more cookie for them until they sign up for Kabal here.

There were (and still are I am sure) griefers in the noob systems with jet cans marked "Free Stuff" and noobs invariably reach in and grab something. I have no idea what makes that fun for the griefers. Small brains I think. But, CCP lets it persist, so shame on them. Hopefully there will be much less of that mentality where actions have consequences.

I believe the term is, "Ka-balla". I didn't get these tints and rims for nothing.

Quadrivium has disappeared, these merges are going to bring a bunch of those smaller groups into the bottom of the rankings. I wonder how many of them are still even paying attention. I know of few of them have never responded to some our attempts at contact.

Not since Crimewatch which is well over a year ago and before that the "noob" player would have to ignore the pop-up window warning them that continuing their action would result in them being flagged for PvP. That warning has been in place for maybe 10 years? I don't remember I turned warnings off the first day I started playing.

I think there are more people that comment about what they have heard about EvE, than have actually played it. That or they haven't played it in over 8 years or more. It would be like me trying to talk about WoW, which I stopped playing well before Burning Crusade.

Goblin Squad Member

Eastern Sun is growing rapidly. That may be where Quadrivium is headed since folding.

Goblin Squad Member

- Hope's End, which began in May with Company Vox Silentii, but disbanded for a time, has gone from being re-created earlier today to holding seven votes and position #33; it'll take only one more vote to move them into the Top 30

- Quadrivium's departure moves The Bastard Sons of Daggermark back into the Top 30, for the first time since Week 5; they have a secondary distinction: bringing the new minimum for Top 30 status back to seven votes

- If Elkhaven disbands before midnight (but we hope Caldeathe will keep writing "Settling In"), Otium Explorator will also return to the Top 30, with seven votes; if not, Elkhaven will hold onto their current #15

Goblin Squad Member

I still agree with Mr Dancey. This is an awesome thread.

Goblin Squad Member

Most interesting is that the Ozems-Elkhaven merger puts them in third place. That would be the first time since what, week 2? that the top three have shifted.

Elkhaven is in no hurry to "Disband" though our members are not wasting time. Five have already left and applied to Ozems Vigil, though apparently the settlement's leader may-or-may-not be in a position to approve the votes quickly.

And as to "Settling In," you're not getting rid of me that easily.

Caldeathe Baequiannia wrote:

Nor should you be. You earned your spot in the Top 30 as did all the others; it's yours until you relinquish it or get passed in votes...by a lot of up-and-comers.
