That seems to be the plan this year too.

Will subscribers be able to have character decks held as part of their order as well? Or only the stuff that is part of the subscription?

Given previous subscription pickups, I'm guessing no - it's just the subscription items that can be picked up. I know at Paizocon they're able to pull through your discounts, not sure about Gencon though.

I hope to bring some playtest material to Paizocon. Stay tuned for the event listings.

It appears that the class decks will be for sale at GenCon for the organized play.

That's also how PACG started, it went on sale at GenCon first, and then was made available for sale elsewhere.

So I'd assume after GenCon, the class decks will be made available for purchase somehow, but no clue how long after GenCon that'll happen.

Our intent is that the retail release date for all of our August products will be the first day of Gen Con.

Note that's a Thursday, and some retailers (mainly comics specialists) only do new product releases on Wednesday; that means those retailers would wait until the next week. (And some bookstores only do new product releases on Tuesday; the same situation applies.)

Like our other decks of this size, it'll be $19.99. (Those of you getting one because you're buying 4 event tickets at $2 apiece are getting quite the bargain!)

Correct—only sub items will be reserved.

Yes—subscriber discounts apply at Gen Con as well as PaizoCon.

If retail release is gen con, does that mean shipping to subscribers will begin before gen con?

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

Assuming everything arrives in our warehouse when anticipated, yes. There's a long time between then and now...

So the Class Decks and new S&S play mats would not be part of the PACG subscription at GenCon but would the actual S&S Base Set and the Class Add-On Deck be part of our subscription? Or would it be just the actual S&S Deck 1?

And how does that work at GenCon? Do we go to the booth and grab all our items then when we pay, we need to let you know we're a subscriber to the PACG to get the discount and our "reserved" items?

And I guess I need to ask the same thing for the comics since I'm a Deluxe Subscriber with that.

You can pick up the Base Set & Character Add-on from your subscription. Remember, deck 1 comes in the Base Set. The other stuff you can purchase and receive your subscriber discount.

The "how" of that I don't know. But that is the "what" of it.

Yeah, it's the "how" that I'm wondering about. I stood in the The Line last year when the doors opened. But since then, I've become a subscriber to the PACG and comics so didn't know how things worked for us.

I've picked up my subscriptions at GenCon for the last few years. Generally, you will have already been charged earlier, and you'd probably already have any subscription pdfs you would be due. So unless you add on extra things you just check out and go. They'll ask for some login info for this site to verify who you are but that's about it.

I'll admit I'm not sure how waiting until after the huge rush goes - I participate in Trade Day so I get into the exhibit hall early. I usually grab my sub stuff from the shelves and carry it up to the checkout. I don't know if they actually keep "held" stuff behind the counter if you want to come by after the initial rush.

Shortly after we finish shipping the July subs, we'll send an email to subscribers letting them know that if they want to pick up their subs at Gen Con, they'll need to visit their paizo.com account page and check a box prior to a certain cutoff date. We'll process your order as usual, (though we'll charge Indianapolis sales tax—sorry, it's the law—instead of shipping & handling), and your items will be held for you at the show.

I believe this year we may have a little subscriber kiosk where that happens, but we haven't finalized details yet. So long as you pick up by the end of day Saturday, we'll keep holding your stuff, so there's no rush—just come by at your leisure.

Yay! I'm glad that's happening again this year, it was great to be able to drop by and pick stuff up last year.

Cheers!

Oh man, PLEASE have the subscriber kiosk. That would be great! Waiting on that line with products you've already paid for was weird.

Hey all,
I am slightly confused about the Subscription and how it works

I see that Skull and Shackles base set is up for pre-order, but not listed as an upcoming product list, but the Skull and Shackles decks 2/3 are...

Do I have to add the new base set to my order as a separate pre-order or will it get put in the subscription at some point?

Thanks, Vic! One more question … for items NOT included in the subscription like the mats and class decks, will we be able to pre-order and pick up @ GenCon?

I'm assuming that you'll have new playmats for S&S and also that the S&S base set and the add-on are part of the subscription.

If you are a subscriber already (and it appears you are) your subscription will continue into Skull & Shackles, so you do not need to do anything. In fact, it will continue to every new Adventure Path until you cancel it.

There will be character mats with the S&S artwork on them. (Though if you are asking if they will be for sale or not at GenCon, I don't know about that.)

The subscription includes every Base Set, Character Add-On, and Adventure Deck. It does not include anything made by Ultra Pro (the Character Mats, the Adventure Mat, the Sleeves, the Adventure Case) or the Character Class decks. But subscribers receive a discount when buying Ultra Pro PACG Accessories or Character Class decks from Paizo.

Based on earlier comments by Vic, I don't think you'll be able to pre-order anything else for pickup at GenCon. So you can pick up your subscription items (if you've selected the option to have them picked up there), and purchase PACG accessories and the class deck with your discount while there.

Correct. We're looking into why the S&S Base Set and Character Add-On Deck are not displaying properly, but they *are* part of the subscription, and will ship in August.

All that is correct. The S&S mats *should* be debuting at Gen Con. UltraPro is also making a mat for Ranzak as a paizo.com and Paizo convention exclusive; that should debut at PaizoCon.

Well, looks like I'll be hitting the Paizo booth right away in any case. I'll want to pick up all my stuff at the start of GC14! But at least it sounds like I can buy a few things prior to GenCon. I think I'll bring a bag with me this year; it'll make it easier.

My first two stops are usually Paizo and Fantasy Flight - my shoulders ache already. Good bags only go so far when you're toting around 30+ pounds of boxes and books. I get odd looks from my friends when it's not even 11 and I want to make a trip back to the room to drop stuff off.

This is where that UPS area comes in handy so you can just immediately ship it all home. :)

I apologize if its already been posted but I can't find it. Are all of the slots at gen con the same scenario or will there be different ones to choose from? The game description does not say and I know you get a free deck if you play 4 or more games but I wondered if it would be the same scenario for all four games or if there was different ones to choose from.

I am so gonna get my stuff at GenCon. WayToExcited!

I'm noticing a distinct lack of people offering to send me a free character deck for no real reason since I can't make it. Paizo, fix this :P

Wouldn't immediately shipping it sort of defeat the purpose of picking it up at the con?

Not if you are shipping them off to Andrew K.

I think last year there was more more time between GenCon and the shipping of PACG, wasn't there? I wasn't clued in on PACG at the time (and haven't attended GenCon), but from the forums I read it seemed like that was the case. So in that case, picking up and shipping it home would have gotten you the game earlier than having Paizo mail it to you. But this year it looks like they are going to try to ship around the same time as GenCon, so that won't be as much of an advantage.

We expect to have at least the first 4 scenarios to play—and it may be the first 6.

Curiosity about the scenarios and the value per scenario. Would we be be getting them more in a combo pack of 2-3 for the price of a standard PFS scenario, or one for that price? It does matter when it comes to determining value judgments.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind $0.99 per scenario. I'm not certain how big the file size is going to be, but I doubt it'll reach the size for a regular PFS scenario.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

We have not announced pricing yet, but while participating retailers will get them for free week by week, they'll be sold only as monthly compilations of 4–6 scenarios.

If you have signed up for more than 4 slots at Gencon, can you get more than one class deck? Or is it limited to one per player?

Thanks.

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

For every 4 tickets you have, you can get 1 class deck.

For everything launching at Gencon (OP program, S&S base set), how long until the rest of us have it?

Given that they are planning for the retail release (street) date to be the first day of GenCon. And given that the pattern so far has been to try and get subscriptions sent out by the street date (see June's thread for an example) I would say you should get it right around GenCon, maybe even a bit before if you are lucky and in the beginning of the shipment run.

Cool! I'm really excited about starting the OP in my local area so I'm kinda chomping at the bit. Thanks for the info Hawkmoon!

I just found out my flight to Gencon may not make it in time for my first ticketed Guild event(I signed up for 4 for the deck!) Can I just come to the next ticketed event and show my 4 tickets even though one has passed?

On another note - can we come over anytime and grab a deck if we have 4 tickets in hand to take a look at it before the event time?

Thanks...

As an aside it looks like the events are almost sold out! so if anyone still wants in there are a couple left...

Are these class decks just duplicates of what us in the main game box. So two players could each play a cleric, one support, another battle themed? Or do these class decks have cards only availuble through the class deck? Is each deck the same or is Paizo useing random card placement, aka super rates to get people to rebuy packs all the time for chase rares?

Th1s not a CCG, so the card list will be fixed for every class deck.

There will cards exclusive to the class decks, both boons and (somewhat obviously) the characters themselves.

Even th iconic characters will get a diferent stat-block every time they appear. So RotR Valeros, S&S Valeros and Fighter Deck Valeros will be all different, but somewhat similar.

As we know now, non-iconic characters won't appear outside of the class decks anytime soon.

Form boons it ws mentioned that they seected cards from both advenure path, plus there areuniques which area good fit for the new characters. for examle ther is a necromancer in the Wizard deck, a poisoner in the Rouge deck etc... they need some new boons for their abilities.

What Zoltan said. If you buy a Cleric class deck and I buy a Cleric class deck, what is in them will be exactly the same: 4 characters (each with a character card, a token card, and a role card), 1 rules card, and 96 boons of various types and adventure deck numbers. Remember, character decks hold less than 20 cards even at the end of the adventure path. So even if you and I are both playing clerics and even if you and I both play the exact same cleric, that doesn't mean our decks will be exactly the same.

You should also note that for organized play it is suggested that no more than 1 character from any class be part of a group. I don't know if that is a "rule" and of course you can do whatever you want in your own group, but it isn't intended that you'd have multiple clerics or fighters or wizards in a single group.

Part of the reason for that is so you can sort your cards out at the end. On the front of the card where it normally says the Adventure Path name, it will instead say the class deck name. That way, if you give a card to another player during the game, you can easily sort them back out at the end by looking at the name on the card. But if two characters from the same class are in a group, that won't work.

Close—97 boons. It says 109 cards on the front of the package because we're not counting the rules card there.

Will generics be accepted for these events if there are no-shows? I was only able to secure seats in a couple sessions, and I'm wondering how many people registered to get a class deck, but won't make it to all of the games.
