Wow, I want to congratulate the person with the item that's effect was one of the effects of the item I wanted to enter. Not only did you have the wisdom to stop at that one effect but in doing so made an item that is far more useable than mine would have been. I hope to see you in the top 32.

Late in the game, I've discovered a cool Calistrian item.
Had one hell of a winning streak for awesome evocation of imagery earlier today. gg folks. :)
No shortage of cool visuals this year!
I think being able to vote the previous year has improved the overall quality (and the visuals)!
I think the level of items over all is a lot better than last year. There are several that I really like, and there are a ton that have some potential. Those just needed a little more editing to be really tight. I bet next year will be even better.

That's 20 items in the keep folder now.

I just saw an item that made me debeverage with glee, because I immediately saw an entire mini-epic movie about how it would play out at our table, inclusive of the GM's (me) futile foot-stomping rage as his carefully laid plans were cunningly derailed by an innocuous-seeming, yet tactically brilliant low-cost magic item.
Well played, stranger on the Internet. Well played indeed...
Two awesome items up against one another!
I'm going to have to carefully consider this vote, and then stop for the night so today's voting ends on a positive note.

I had that last night too! I ended up retiring to let my subconscious mull them over.
It was a gnat's hair between them, and it didn't come down to formatting, or design, or names, or anything quantifiable. It was my first gut feel voted pair. I voted for the winner simply because I liked it more, a smidgen more, but enough to win it the vote.
Wow, a vote based in the end on pure self preference. That doesn't happen very often, so very well done to BOTH items.
I needed this thread. I haven't been voting this year like I was last year. I remember being angry a lot while I was voting. There were a lot of negative meme's on the board that I think contributed to how I was feeling. I think I saw some positive feedback about my item this thread.
I think I'll start voting again and leaving positive feedback here.
:)
Its a lot easier to tear something down than to build something. So positivity is a more taxing, but rewarding creative excercise.
Just saw an item that deals with the undead that avoids the pitfalls many of those items fall into. :)

My main character is a Witch with a poison frog familiar. I just found a clever (possibly OP) item that would be perfect for her.

You, my painful sounding friend, are actually very clever and fascinating. I shall vote for you without remorse.

Okay, I've seen a ton of items that cheat action economy with drinking potions in this competition. Even though I agree that potions have such meager benefit for the action economy they cost, I have mixed feelings about such items. However, I just absolutely love this one.

There is an item that I love as much as last year's Beardforge that I vote up every single time I see it. I hope it does not come up against mine, because I would be sorely tempted to downvote myself.

Someone used an en-dash, rather than a minus, in their entry for a penalty. Nice work!

I just saw my own item, and after reading and comparing it to the item it was matched with I felt justified in up voting it.

New Item! Not the greatest explanation of powers (took me awhile to figure it out), but still better than what it was up against. Kind of neat...in a weird sort of way.

I await the one among us who admits the other item was better than our own and they down-voted their own creation. ;)

I guarantee you that if I see my item paired against a better item, that I will acknowledge that the other item is better...and vote for my own anyway.

The one time mine came up, it was close. It came down to, I liked mine better. =P
On a more serious note, there is at least one item that I would vote over my own, aside from my son's.
I just saw a simple little item I might be tempted to vote over my own. It would be a tough choice.
Nope. Nope nope nope nope f--oh, hold the phone. That is actually the most perfect item ever devised for that one recurring NPC in our game. [copy, paste, send to GM, upvote.]

I ran into this one item near the beginning that stopped me. I read it a few times … it was a cool ginger salad after a slew of bread biscuits. Every time I run across it, it wins my vote, which by now is at least 6 times. I have also found many others that have “cashed in” on my vote. These “tended” to be items between 150-250 words and had just enough Zen and Zest to get the right Ying and Yang going for me. I am sure everyone has their own opinions about what makes a SuperStar item, well… Super. But this is voting based on personal preferences (minus formatting). I know I felt these are super. When the voting smoke clears and we can talk about it all I plan on telling the crafters of these items how much I favored them.
Anyway, excellent work folks.. good group of items this year~

If the other item had been better I would have done just that. I have seen several items that I would have up-voted over mine. The fact that I fought the urge to ignore the other item and just up-vote mine without comparing it properly was actually a minor victory for me.

Yes. I think 150-250 is the Goldilocks Zone.
michaeljpatrick wrote: Pen2paper wrote: ...I have also found many others that have “cashed in” on my vote. These “tended” to be items between 150-250 words...
Yes. I think 150-250 is the Goldilocks Zone. Last year's Top 32 agree, although a quarter were 285 or more. It's harder to advance with fewer than 150 words than with more than 250.
Both times I've seen mine so far its been up against stinkers (in one case literally), So I haven't had to worry about picking between it and an obviously better item (and there are some out there)...
Two brilliant items paired up against each other. One I've seem before, the other is new to me.
Still working out which way to go...
EDIT: Equally good, so a technicality decided it. For one item the aura strength matched the caster level; for the other it didn't.

I've seen quite a few I've liked, and at least a dozen so far that I copied, just in case (insert feelings of crushing despair here) they fail to make the top 32, I'll have the material to use in my own game(s). Kudos to all who have entered!
New items... and so many are good.
Even though I hit Marathon before the cull, I'm getting some new items that I really like! Nice work, you previously-unseen authors.
Oh you perfect little consumable, you. I wish you were up against a stronger item so I could upvote you on your merits instead of by default.
Why, hello. I have not seen you before.
I find you ... fascinating, my little new item.

Wife's item made it past the cull. Now I just need to find my son's and mine. =)

I keep seeing this awesome consumable and keep voting for it! :D
Keep list is up to 24 post-cull.
So many items become hilarious by adding, changing, or subtracting a single letter. Much better ones this year!

Huh. Both cufflink items made it.
made the cull. Not seeing many new items yet. Good luck all who made it. I have come to like an item i did not originally like, more votes for you!

I have not seen you before. You are pretty well done. Upvote.
And you ...
While I, personally have no use for you, I salute your creativity and admit you are better than the item you are paired with.
Well done.
