I think I have scraped the bottom of the barrel with this round. Badly written and formatted SAK vs. badly written and formatted item created to completely circumvent the rule of certain classes at a moderate cost.

Ultimately, this is a writing contest. An entry that is super short doesn't give me any glimpse of how you write (and probably doesn't have enough information to get me interested in your item).
I can see what you're saying, but at the same time, I'll pick an entry that is brief and concise, if perhaps lacking in floridity, over something that runs several hundred words, is repetitive, rambling, and/or exhibits spelling and grammar errors.

I vote for the item that will get disqualified over the legal but crappy item.
That's a good idea, actually. Haven't had it come up yet, but not sure the criteria would have occurred to me had it done.
Second dental prosthesis I've seen that is nearly identical in appearance and effect.

I'm all for karmic items, but at least scale the cost appropriately. Paying an arm and a leg for an item that balances itself out seems a bit unreasonable.

It's a rookie mistake wherein the writer believes they can keep the cost down by having a drawback.
I said it last year: Defining an item's limitations is fine. Putting a drawback in is just asking to get downvoted.

If you feel the need to put in a justification to explain why you did what you did when you wrote the item, then it's not a good item.
Also, how did a 397 word item get submitted? I thought auto-rejects were actually auto-rejected. Really, I'd love it if the submission form went "Thank you for submitting your item. Word count is over 300, so your item has been deleted. Try again next year."

That's why I have multiple NES controllers- after a great game night when you get the old crew back together, eventually a Pro Wrestling (the old NES game) tournament breaks outs.
Also, I just felt awkward- the police showed up at my door asking if I heard anyone yelling and screaming. Now, my house is the only one in the neighborhood with lights on (it's late on the East Coast), so I can see why they'd ask me. I haven't heard yelling or screaming, but I didn't try to explain that I've been sitting quietly in my house with two cats, smoking a cigar, and voting on RPG Superstar. I think I would have heard something.
As far as the contest goes, though, I've already seen a big discrepancy in those who actually read the rules and go through the boards here for advice and those who don't. I think everyone should compete, but for future competitors, there's a wealth of knowledge to be gleaned from past contests.
...and an item that already exists (with the same name) in one of the Paizo products.

Oh, item. You're actually kind of clever and interesting, and would be so much better off without the jokesy quip in your description. (Plus, it would have kept you from nearly going over your word count.)
