There are lots of references to boon characters out there, but I wanted to ask about them in a thread all their own. So, what have you made with your race boon?
All of the nagaji I know of in my area are very physically oriented: Paladin, Barbarian/Oracle, Brawler. So I went a different way and decided to play a full-caster Oracle of Lore, with a focus on enchantment spells like murderous command. Time will tell if it's worth it. Probably not, but I fell so in love with the concept I made for her that I'd be hard-pressed to change anything about her.
I don't think we have any Kitsune in our area (though I know at least two players still have their boons), there are three Wayang (Wizard, Ranger/rogue, and amusingly enough, Bloodrager) and no other boons have circulated in our area (we had the same boons two years in a row - 2012 the Kitsune/Wayang/Nagaji boon, 2013 Nagaji/Wayang only - due to our only major con taking place somewhere around GenCon and the dates happening to fall thus).
So, what did you make with your boon, and what have you seen floating around?

A buddy and I made a pair if kitsune twins. I was an alchemist, he was a rogue. They were very fun, but unfortunately are now taxidermy in a basement in Cheliax.
I also am nailing down the details on my grippli as a musket master (Annie Croakley), possibly multiclassing later.
I have an ifrit I'm still trying to figure out completely. I'm leaning archer paladin at the moment.

Petrus is an Oread monk / living monolith, currently 13th level. Recently granted the rank of Venture Captain, he is touring various lodges, learning how to manage such lofty responsibilities.
Cadavrul is a Dhampyr cleric of the Ferryman, currently 8th level. He is following up leads that the leadership of a vast smuggling network has been infiltrated by shape-shifting evil outsiders.
Zun is a Wayang slayer from the streets of Kaer Maga, currently 2nd level. He claims to have joined the Pathfinder Society for his own purposes, but that's a lie, as he serves another, hidden master.
I have plans to build a Suli summoner / davirat with my boon from Gen Con.

I am a Nagaji and have been bred by my Naga masters to battle demons themsleves in an upcoming war and am a Paladin of Yaezhing.
As part of my training I have been sent on walkabout, to do what I want while I hone my skills for 5 years. I met Amara Lee in Goka and choose to join the Pathfinder Society as a means expand my horizons and explore the Inner Sea
How fortuitous for me that their path has led me now to the Worldwound. My training and skills at fighting demons is unmatched by even 10,000 years or random monkey breading.
P.S. I love the awesome art piece I commissioned from Liz Courts.

"Yes Tancred Desimire is my cousin, but the things he has done to our house... The corruption of the great might of Cheliax and the betrayal of our house's glorious history in the Service of Dispater. His behavior disgusts me. I hope one day to drink his soul and be done with him for good."
Tavarius is a dhampir cleric of Dispater.

I also have a Thassilonian Specialist Necromancer/Cruoromancer/Bloatmage, and I swear to God I thought of it before Nefreet first posted about his. (Not that I'm saying he copied me; just that we came up with it separately.) His is going to be some sort of hedonist, though; mine's jiang-shi born, so I'm playing up the putrefaction and disconnection from life. Honestly he's probably not ideal for society play, so I'm only going to pull him out with certain GMs, but he'll be super-fun when it happens.
I really like racial archetypes, so I also have a Nagaji Naga Aspirant who's seen some play, and an Undine Waterbendersinger named "Pakka" who is getting trotted out next week.
Plus tomorrow I'm unveiling my Kitsune Zen Archer, Robin of Lanming. It turns out Kitsune is not a great choice for a Zen Archer build. It also turns out I don't care, because the concept just delights me. :D

Well, let us see.
My Tiefling (with a boon oh so long ago) named Forsythia, is a Rogue (Investigator) that is about to be accepted into the ranks of the Sleepless Detectives.
My Ifrit Sorcerer (Zyvixis) dipped into Cavalier to have his Axe Beak (Axiseckra) and became a Eldrich Knight.
My Kitsune is a male. (worth mentioning in itself) Bob Betelgeuse is a planiar Oracle with the Dark Tapestry Mystery. (He has dark vision) Spells like Murderous Command, Forbid Action and he just got Hold Person.
My Nagaji (Sharish) is an Inquisiter. She dresses in red, has a wide brim hat she tilts to cover her face, a blond, short crop wig and takes pains to hide her outside appearance in public situations.
I recently got a Sylph boon. Repega Keeya is a Sky Druid that is out to see the world. She is simple minded and everything is... "interesting!"
Kyshkumen |
Tiefling (My first boon) is an inquisitor of Zon Kuthon
I have two Wayangs, one is an alchemist the other is an order of the Lion samurai.
My Kitsune is shy and doesn't show his real face unless he's knocked unconscious. He also talks to himself a lot.
My Nagaji is leaning toward a dual wield ranger. Probably going to go with katanas.
I've had several other triple race boons but I gave them all good homes.

Damphyr Undead Lord Cleric (still pending rebuild to make legal again)
Kitsune (Razmiran Priest) Sorcerer, Undead bloodline
Ifrit Sorcerer. Elemental: Fire bloodline
Unbuilt:
Ifrit
Undine boon (pending player who won the VTT day 2 boon letting me know which boon he wants, so I can actually finish putting in the game information - Sorry, Online VOs!)
teribithia9 |
nagaji paladin/oracle of lore (level 9)
kitsune fighter/natural weapons ranger (level 6)
dhampir undead lord cleric who became a bard/oracle of lore (and is still a little annoyed about it because she lost her best friend) level 5
I haven't made the others yet...am thinking about an ifrit swashbuckler or an ifrit oracle of fire/elemental fire sorceror....not sure what to do with the others I have.

- Wayang Bladebound Magus, high strength and intelligence (18 str + 4 belt = 22 str, and 18 int + 2 belt = 20 int), level 8.
- About to make a Wayang Necromancer Wizard with a side of Illusion focus as well, level 2.
- Gonna get an Undine boon soon (probably). Will be making an Undine Shaman with the Waves Spirit and Hydraulic Maneuver. Will probably start about level 4.

My Ifrit is a fire-blaster tattooed sorcerer with a wizard dip for some flexibility in low level spells. I haven't played him much recently, but familiar is a smart-ass fire elemental temporarily trapped in the form of a raven (ie, raven familiar for now, will upgrade when high enough level for an elemental improved familiar). One of our GMs played his snarkiness to the hilt during one adventure when my character couldn't make a perception check to save his life, and the familiar made all of them. ("Really? You don't see that? Do I have to do everything?")
I have a Wayang alchemist-urban barbarian whose business cards proclaim:
Alouicious Alkarion, D.Ch.
Professor of Physiological Accomodation Therapy
Arcanamirium, AbsalomPrivate consultations by appointment
Enquire via Dept. of Applied TransmutationMember in Good Standing of The Pathfinder Society
(Yes, I did print those up and pass them out when I play him.) He alters his physiology via emotion and chemistry to handle the various problems he faces as a pathfinder, and offers suggestions of ways other characters could improve themselves. ("A second nose could significantly increase your airflow and help you find your enemies!")
My wife and I have a married pair of Kitsune jugglers. She is "Hu Yisit" and I am "Hu Waryiu". Together they are the famous comedy act, "The Hus". He inspires courage via bad vaudeville one-liners, and she throws weapons out of her juggling pattern.

I made a Nagaji Paladin of Torag. >~> because snake man following dwarven scripture seems awesome.
"AND LO, SHALL THE SERPRENTS OF DECEPTION, THE FOUL BEASTS CRAWLING THROUGH THE DEPTHS ATTEMPT TO DECIEVE YOU AND LEAD YOU ASTR..
*Cough*
"ermm.. present company excluded of course."
El Baron de los Banditos |
Sin, just a note, Faiths of Purity notes that Torag only allows dwarves as paladins. Cleric or Inquisitor, maybe? Warpriest?
The good part about that is (if I recall correctly) the fact that the Paladin section of that book isn't PFS-legal, so Torag paladins don't have to crush ALL THE ORCS or fall.
El Baron de los Banditos |
I found that out during a discussion of the legality of Paladins of Irori, because Faiths of Balance notes that the only neutral deity that allows Paladins is Abadar.
Of all the gods of balance, only one supports and promotes a holy order of paladins: Abadar.
It's only for Orders of Paladins; not the existence of them. Irori is a "do-it-yourself" kind of deity, so having an Order wouldn't make sense (since you're supposed to find your own path and whatnot.)
Chris Mortika RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16 |
Nefreet, my copy of FoB says that the only LN god with an order of paladins is Abadar. So it's fine for Irori to have paladin agents. They just don't form the Blue Palm Corps.
And El Baron, I can see that, which is also nice for those people who want to play clerics of Apsu. (The text is clear that Apsu grants clerical powers solely to dragons.)
