Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Vic, you're not getting my point. You hosed a ton of new subscribers in October causing many of us to justifiably drop the subscription. Then, you turn around and hose everyone in the world EXCEPT the subscribers by pushing the Dec. release date until AFTER Christmas. Again, the post-Christmas date is the biggest issue I have.

If you'd done this any other month of the year, it wouldn't have been such a big deal, but I'd suspect that many people were going to get this for Christmas or at least to play with others right around Christmas which you eliminated for a mediocre reason. The cards were already printed and just needed to be distributed meaning that any delay was purely intentional on your end and could easily be interpreted as spiteful. "Oh you all decided that you hated our very sub-par service in October and left? Well, we'll get even with you by messing up your Christmas plans."

So to all the new Paizo.com people, of which there are many fwiw, you've now shot yourselves in both feet. Once was understandable as it was a lot of technical glitches and severe underestimating of how popular PACG was going to be, but there is no reason good enough for this one. You chose to run a sale that your website couldn't handle (again after the technical self-destruction from Oct. might have clued you guys in that it wasn't a good idea to do) which put you guys behind on shipping AP3. That meant you had to pick between possibly penalizing subscribers again or severely dampening many more people's Christmas. Again, totally self-inflicted.

Considering First-Class Mail doesn't cost that much more based on your website pricing, I'd venture to guess you could have bumped everyone up to it for minimal extra cost and gotten the subscribers taken care of at about the same time as the original release date.

Do you understand my (and I'm sure there are many others) frustration?

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

I'm sorry you were inconvenienced, but as you might imagine, our decision to delay our December releases until after Christmas was not taken lightly.

I cannot believe I have to wait until 12/31 for this package to ship out. Especially since the only package I have gotten on time in the last 6 months I had to go to Indianapolis to pick up myself. Add to that I am still missing an order that was suppose to have gone out on 12/10 and in my hands according the the tracking website by 12/18. That is the second order in the last six months I haven't even gotten.

Someone has to explain this to me. I get the email on 12/12 saying that you are getting ready to send the package. I then have to wait until 12/20 to be actually charged on the package. I then have to wait until 12/31 for the package to be shipped. Finally I have to wait 2 more weeks for the package to arrive! That is a month from start to finish. Of which you have my money and I don't have anything in my hands for at least 24 days!

You guys really need to back off on new production and get your shipping straightened out.

Wow, the hostility from some of these guys is really shocking to me. If you are so upset about when you're getting your subscriptions, then just cancel the sub and go get the items at your local store or from Amazon. I don't see the point in attacking the Paizo guys.
TL;DR: Calm the hell down, yo.

You know the best part is that the last time I talked to a service rep for Paizo, they basically told me the exact same thing. If I don't like it, then go someplace else to get my books. Only problem is that I can't get the .pdfs if I go through Amazon. So yes, I would pay less for shipping and actually get the items on time, but then I would lose out on the .pdfs, which is what I use to run my games.

So...basically, I am at the mercy of Paizo's shipping department and have been fine with that until the last 6 months. When they haven't gotten and order to me in less than 3 weeks and two orders have gone missing in that time frame, I start to get a little annoyed.

Dark Archive

No disrespect but it sounds like a lot of that problem is the mail service/post office and not Paizo since once it leaves there warehouse there really is not much they can do.

12/11 through 12/12 are the days we sent an email to subscribers letting them know that subscription shipments will begin soon. This advance notice allows people time to adjust their orders or to make sure they have the necessary funds available. That email is very clear that we're not yet shipping, but that we're going to begin shipping soon.

We begin shipping subscriptions on 12/13; in most months, that's a process that takes a full week; we've been very clear that this month, it would take longer, up to 12/31.

Note that 12/31 is the date by which we expect to have shipped all subscriptions, not the date we necessarily expect to ship *your* subscription. That's why the language we use says we expect to ship your sub "before" or "by" 12/31, not "on" 12/31.

When your shipment is charged, that means it's preparing to ship; if you were charged on December 20, your shipment is likely to have been picked up by the shipper either that day or (if they've already done that day's pickup) the next business day (which is today).

The length of time that we actually have your money while you don't have your package is generally about 1 business day longer than it takes for the package to go from us to you, and sometimes much less than 1 business day. That's the same as just about every other ecommerce business in the world.

As for the package that the shipper says was delivered on 12/18, if you don't have it, that's clearly a problem with the shipper. Please let customer.service@paizo.com know about the problem.

At this point, I'm just hoping to get it this year... (I'll be lucky if it ships by then).

If it hasn't even shipped this year, definitely canceling my sub. Still pretty likely to do so otherwise.

Telling us your going to have poor service (under no circumstance is almost 3 weeks to ship NOT poor service, especially when the heads up email said a week or so) doesn't make it any better.

Hi everyone, Ray here from Australia.
Here to present an alternative view to some of those present. As a long time buyer of board games, living in Australia can be hard as we are so far away from everywhere else, particularly the US. Usually a long wait after many other countries receive their products is par for the course down under, despite the fact there is a reasonable amount of buyers and gamers.
In October I was pleasantly surprised how quickly I was able to purchase AP2 (Late October) from my local distributor Good Games Online. Thank you Mike, Vic and all at Paizo for being the fastest distributor that I,ve encountered. I realise the US is your main market as it is with all gaming companies, but thank you for giving excellent service to the 51st state.
We are all in your humble debt.
All US subscribers, be a little patient, and you,ll duelling ogres shortly. Hopefully we in Oz won't be long after.
Cheers Ray

Sorry if this is the wrong place for my question: Will 2014 Gencon have another Event for the Pathfinder card game? I would love to see the card game back at gencon for the social experience and learning the most updated rules (as well as old rules that we probably don't play correctly). Thanks and happy holidays.

p.s. frustration about not having the product is merely excitement to play tainted by delay! a good sign people really want to play your game.

I can't speak for Paizo, but after this year's overwhelming reaction to PACG at Gen Con, I personally intend to take the Skull & Shackles release at Gen Con 2014 very seriously.

Paizo Employee

Nice timing for mine which arrived today, so I've got another package to open for Christmas day.

Now this I might just have to see...Hawkmoon already mentioned the idea of heading out for this...I must consider...

Silver Crusade

Mine came in this past Saturday, excellent job on getting these out!

Sovereign Court

They have certainly not done an excellent job. I got an email 15 days ago saying mine was shipping in a week or so, and I'm not alone. The time this has taken is nuts. I'm glad you got yours, but that is in no way indicative of their overall handling of this release.

What makes it worse is that I side carted the Skinsaw expansion to come with this, thinking I'd actually get it in a timely fashion (this was when the public release was about the 17th, and they were telling us they expected the domestic orders to be shipped by then).

FWIW, there's a post every month or so about Amazon screwing up release dates of paizo books (usually along the lines of "Paizo should fix this...") and things coming out weeks after the street date.

I don't know if the card game will be different, but based on the book experience I wouldn't rely on Amazon if getting the cards as soon as possible is your priority. I'd think the subscription service is likely to be the best bet (once you get used to the protracted shipping process) or failing that, one of the online board game/card game sellers.

October was a glitchy month, December was messed around by the November sale. Whether you think all of those were sensible/reasonable or anything else isn't really relevant. It's not rational to base one's view of the subscription services paizo offers based on two out of seventysomething months. Being a subscriber is the best way to reliably get Paizo products as soon as possible. There's the odd anomaly, but its silly to ignore the majority of months which have run like clockwork, nor the added protection should things arrive damaged.

Sovereign Court

"Added protection should things arrive damaged" - everywhere I shop gives that, Paizo isn't unique there. I don't know of any reputable website that doesn't do it.

My best bet for reliable, on time receiving of a game will always be my local game shop. If I ask the owner, I'd even get a promo card, but I have never had anything come late in the last several years I've gone there. I went with a subscription seeing how good they usually are with getting subscribers their products before public release. But both of the releases since ACG came out have been poor, the only reason I'm even keeping my sub is because even though I'm now likely buying local for future expansions, I'm keeping the subscription for my brother to get copies as well since usually only one promo card is available at the shop.

As for basing my views on these two months -- yes, maybe they usually do everything just fine. The fact is, they've shown that something as generic as a sale screws up their whole shipping process for others. I'd say it is completely reasonable for that to make someone feel negatively about the company. Even still, regardless of why -- when a person comes to the Paizo site for the first time as I did, and sees the October fiasco, and then sees this? It doesn't look good. First impressions are important, and Paizo's service made a bad first -- and second -- impression with me.

I'd be surprised. Note that Paizo pushed the street date back for this month precisely because of the perceived late delivery to subscribers last month. I suspect they'll continue to prioritise the delivery of subscriber copies around street date going forward.

Indeed - I can understand new subscribers having a poor impression based on October through December this year. I'm not trying to tell you what to think, I'm just providing further information for those who haven't shopped with paizo other than the last few months. Their record is extremely good, they are very concerned with their subscribers and they are going through some rather extreme growing pains.

I'm just worried people will jump ship and then be disappointed when things return to normal and subscribers once more receive the usual, stellar service. (Ie kysmartman above).

Well, let's put it to you this way Steve. I doubt their service will ever be "stellar". Even after they decided to screw 99% of their customers to reward the subscribers this month after the utter debacle that was October and November, it still took a full week to get the package shipped, after it was said to be shipped btw, plus another one to get it to me (which was quicker than normal mainly because I live in KY which houses the UPS hub which speeds things up). However, CSI which I have avoided like the plague based on many things shipped AP3 on the 26th via FedEx Smartpost, and I'm going to have it Monday or Tuesday. That's with both FedEx and UPS getting slammed during Christmas and playing catch up.

So, I'll not worry about the subscribers being given preferential treatment (this despite Paizo running around in October saying "Oh we never promised that subscribers would get the game before the release date"). The only thing I'm buying from them will be Skull & Shackles when it gets released and only because of several reasons.

I'm not trying to argue how you want to buy things. We each make our own judgements on that. Nor am i suggesting you should or shouldnt be a subscriber (although note that most paizo subscribers will have AP3 plus the two promo cards before Monday or Tuesday and probably cheaper than what it cost you - that being my main point. Paizo's multiple emails make the shipping process seem longer than it really is. What matters is when you receive it and the price you pay).

I'm pointing out that subscribers are usually going to get great service (based on several hundred orders over several years). That's data that people who've only bought from Paizo once or twice probably aren't privy to.

No matter how you feel about October and December, they were unusual. Even on the other side of the world, I often get my subscriber shipments before the street date. You wouldn't know that if you only subscribed late in 2013.

The fact you're upset about the delayed December street date is precisely what I'm worried about for others if they drop their subscriptions. Things will return to normal and they'll feel like they've been caught out both times.

Much happier this time around. Hook Mountain arrived in the UK for me last Friday, which means a two week shipping time. Still a bit of a niggle that most FLGS in the UK have had it in stock for a couple of weeks, but worth the wait overall I think since it works out a lot cheaper. (Also I think I have chosen the cheapest shipping method).

Really nice to have the two promo cards. Keep up the good work Paizo.

Sovereign Court

Well my package (according to the Paizo site) finally shipped this past Friday. The next test? Am I actually going to receive the Skinsaw promo card? The site says yes, but the 2 other subscribers in my group not getting there's when they got it at release (wasn't an uncommon issue browsing teh interwebs at the time) tells me wait'n'see.

Looking forward to whatever the new scenario is that involves shuffling extra snakes and random allies / blessings into each location deck! This adventure sounds (from reading forum posts) like the best one yet.

And actually Steve, the subscription cost is MORE than I can get it on every other site out there. Sure, if the promo card is one you can sell, then the sub makes sense. Honestly, if I had checked things out more before signing up, I would never have gone through the hell of October because I don't care for any of the promo cards other than the 1st 2 which I will never get because I didn't know about the sub program in time. That's one of the reasons why I'm going to get S&S from Paizo because I'd imagine they're going to front-load the promos again (it makes sense for them too as it drives people to their site/Con booths).

The only reason to get the sub is to get the promo card(s). Well, unless they go back on their "we never guaranteed people they'd get their stuff before street date" word, and guarantee that they do.

The promo distribution method is just about the only thing I hate about PACG. Shipping almost doubles the price of the game even with the subscribers discount. Buying from ebay is the same. The promo cost almost as much as the game it comes with.

They chose to screw over their overseas fans so as to sell more subscriptions.

I just got Hook Mountain today.. :) yay

I still haven't received mine and I got my notice that the product was about to ship on Dec. 13.

I have cancelled my subscription, still love the product but not worth the aggravation.
