My gf wants to play a sorceror who blows things up with fire. What are some good feats/traits and spells and such to take? I am unsure what race she will play but we are in the Council of Thieves adventure so it would need to a race that would make sense for being there. I know Ifrit are good with fire but I bet she wouldnt want to be that. She is partial to elf casters.

There are a couple of guide, in particular search for the recent "blockbuster wizard" which should also give a lot of ideas for blasting sorcs.
In short you can either got for pure damage or the control "dazing" line: for a damage blaster you want the orc bloodline plus evtl. cross-blooded (draconic) which results in 1 or 2 extra damage per dice. For amazing control just stick the dazing MM to your spell of choice. For both control or damage fireball is pretty good as are fire snake or chain lightning. The trait magical lineage is pretty good for your favorite spell. Have a look at metamagic, in particular empower, intense, selective, dazing and rods. Also, you have to find a way around elemental immunities (for example the wonderful dragon breath spell). Resistances can be blasted trough (i.e. ignored). Item-wise the goblin fire drum (try to somehow get a familiar for it) is cheap & good. Elves are OK as they bring +2 level for overcoming spell resistance- but you want also a bonus to charisma. The ubiquitous Humans, half-orcs, halflings and gnomes (pyromaniac!) are all good choices. Also, tieflings might be nice if the GM permits a charisma variant. Feats: spell focus to boost DC, improved initiative, toughness, and MM (empower, intense, quicken, selective, elemental, ...) are all good. Aim for spell perfection late game!

If you take elemental bloodline:Fire then you will get a bonus feat at lv 7. One of those are improve initiative. My sorceror
1) Spell focus: evocation
3) Greater spell focus: Evocation
5) Elemental Focus: Fire
7) Greater Elemental Focus: Fire
7 Bonus feat) Improved Initiative or Empowered Spell
This feat selection will up your fire spells DC by +4. That is significant.
Obviously if you take human you would get an additional feat which I suggest Improved Init at lv 1 and then pick Empowered spell for the lv 7 bonus feat. Keep in mind that half orc has a +1/2level favored class bonus to fire damage so a 10th level character would have +5 additional fire damage to his/her fire spells for free.
If you are planning on going past lv 10, I would start thinking of spell penetration as you will start fighting outsiders and dragons with SR and you will need it to be efficient in combat. It doesnt matter how much damage you nuke out if your spells arent getting through.

How do you feel about 3rd party material?
The absolute best blaster I know how to make used the super genius games Godling and the favored class options for SGG classes
Specifically the Eldritch Godling from the Mystic Godling. You are a spontaneous caster that can use any stat for your casting stat (so you can go charisma if thats important to her). Add to that set of divine traits called mystic inheritance. With it you can add sorceror bloodline powers or wizard school specializations. There is another called Divine Portfolio (both appear in the godling ascendant follow up to the godling and mystic godling) that allows oracle revelations to be taken.
Basically you go human and take the favored class bonus of 1/2 divine traits. You use that plus those you get from the class (and maybe the emergent divinity feat) to gain sorceor bloodling powers (namely the bloodline arcana and first level bloodline power of either draconic or primal elemental bloodlines) and the admixture wizards 1st level school power or one of the bloodlines that lets you convert spells to fire if you prefer.
Then you can use the flame oracle revalations via Divine portfolio for some nifty flame abilities that dont drain your spell slots for the day.
Add in magical lineage traits (or maybe wayang spellhunter) and some metamagic feats and you can blow stuff up with the best of them.
For bonus points theres a divine trait called Legendary Beauty if her characters looks are important to her.

Your girlfriend sounds awesome :D
If strategic battlefield control isn't her thing, then go with the spell focus feats and multiple elemental spell feats. At higher levels, take quicken spell. In the end, with spell perfection, she'll be shooting off two powerful fireballs, of any elemental, per round. Sounds pretty NUKE EVERYTHING to me.

Godling is broken as a gunslinger's musket on a natural 1.

I suggest that she work towards Spell Perfection, with an eye towards eventually being able to toss out an extra Quickened Empowered Fireball each round, for the price of a 5th-level spell slot.

How so? If someone is going to devote all their resources to something, why shouldnt they be good at it? There is nothing broken about specialization, and this is about the only way that I know of to make blasting not a vastly inferior choice to just about every other kind of magical focus.

Can't speak towards the balance of the class (I just drew one up and haven't played it yet), but Fat Goblin Games makes a Pyromancer class that's very sorcerer-like (spontaneous spellcaster) and looks exceedingly good at nuking. I'd also recommend the feat list that Taason posted.

I would suggest half elf then to be pretty (part elf) an efficient with +2 cha (half human)
Great suggestion here with the feats
Dragon breath is great for damagr and when needed to go around immune fire type
Max bluff for the fluff of the beautiful lady that, when pissed, can burn your house
She could take half dragon half (insert something that change elemental damagr to something else) if you don't lile splashing in admixture wiz for 1 level
Rods...lots of them...bring ALL the rods!
P.s. Bring resist fire in case she is not happy about you having your new sword ;)

She could also consider a tiefling (if she doesn't mind the horns and/or tail). There might be ways to cut out that fluff in any case.
Tieflings get some nice synergy as sorcerers, especially with an elemental/fire focus.
In addition, there are some alternate heritages that work even better for sorcerers (they have different ability modifiers and/or skill bonuses).
Demon-Spawn (Pitborn) +2 Str, +2 Cha, –2 Int
Savage and monstrous, the terrifying spawn of demons know the chaotic fury of their Abyssal ancestors.
Skills: Disable Device, Perception
1/day: shatter
Div-Spawn (Spitespawn) +2 Dex, +2 Cha, –2 Int
Scouring life like a desert wind, these tieflings possess the precision and exoticism of their div ancestors.
Skills: Diplomacy, Linguistics
1/day: misdirection
Kyton-Spawn (Shackleborn) +2 Con, +2 Cha, –2 Wis
The black-hearted spawn of shadow and pain know the sadistic vices of their suffering-obsessed forebearers.
Skills: Escape Artist, Intimidate
1/day: web
Rakshasa-Spawn (Beastbrood) +2 Dex, +2 Cha, –2 Wis
Deft and charming, these bestial tieflings inherit much of the subtlety and guile of their proud rakshasa progenitors.
Skills: Disguise, Sense Motive
1/day: detect thoughts

Its not optimized but if she wants to be a sorcerer then the having the Crossblooded archetype to get the Efreeti and Draconic (Red) bloodlines would be great. Use Efreeti's arcana to change any elemental energy damaging spell into fire with out upping the caster level and the ability to do it an infinite amount of times per day instead of 3 + w/e. Draconic will allow add +1 per die on those spells. Its a fun combo when you get your hands on a spell like Chain Lightning.
NOG the Demoralizer |
She should read Worldwound Gambit, there is a character in there that I based my fire cleric off of, she will likely love the same character to build some personality off of for her sorceress.
To throw another option out there, my character is a human theologian cleric of sarenrae with a draconic and orc crossblooded sorcerer dip. I got to toss out some beastly burning hands until fireball opened up.

My pyromancer sorcerer:
Human Draconic(brass) bloodline Tattooed Archtype lvl 5 snapshot.
Feats:
A: Mage's Tatoo (Free with Archtype)
H: Spell Focus Evocation (Human bonus feat)
1: Spell Specialization: Burning Hands
3: Greater Spell Focus Evocation
5: Intensify Spell
Favored Class:
+2 HP / +3 Spells
Spells:
Oth: Acid Splash, Charm Person, Daze, Detect Magic, Ghost Sound, Open/Close, Prestigitation, Read Magic
1st: Burning Hands, Charm Person, Enlarge Person, Mage Armor, Magic Missile, Mount, Silent Image
2nd: Frost Fall, Resist Energy, Invisibility
The Draconic Bloodline and the Tattooed archtype powers play very nicely together to get me a lot of good powers. This character has a natural AC bonus, fire resistance, and a familiar already.
Burning hands was doing 4d4+4 DC 17 at level 1. Most monsters that made their saves through levels 1 and 2 still died.
Burning hands now does 8d4+8 DC 18 intensified as a level 2 spell.
Next level brings fireball.
The only drawback of this character is that it stands up to punishment like a wet paper bag.

Council of Thieves is set in Cheliax, and it will make a difference if she's a tiefling or half-elf or halfling. Be warned, the Chelish keep slaves, and slave races will have a tougher time of things. It's not impossible or anything like that, but you won't be prom queen.
Overall, fire sorcerer is a weak choice for this AP and you should avoid this. Why? Because thieves usually can evade fire attacks, and should you run into a devil, it's probably immune to fire, and might have spell resistance. And I say this as someone who ran 5/6 of the books for my home group.
If I may, I'd suggest heavens oracle, and just reflavor the color spray line of spells as some kind of pyrotechnic effect, like fireworks. Add in sound burst, and it's a party. Far more useful against thieves, and gives access to the cleric spell list. If you can't beat the spell resistance, start helping your friends instead, because spells on them will always work.
And you still get to be good looking.

I am playing a cryonamcer sorcerer in kingmaker. Some suggestions:
Mages tattoo is a great investment, as is tattoo sorcerer.
Spell Specialization is the most bonkers feat ever.
The spell Windy Escape is great for low-level survivability.
Burning arc(Freezing arc for my sorc) Has been my main damaging spell from level 3 to level 7 (where we are at right now) It is better than fireball, since it is easier to target and has the same damage cap.
Get at least one good +1 meta-magic feat, so that you can use your upper level slots efficiently. You can get mostly utility in your level 3 slots and still use them to throw out burning arcs when you need to.
For a pyromancer, I would suggest either Reach Spell, Focused Spell or Elemental spell. Reach helps with Burning arc's short range, Focused spell gives more save DC and Elemental spell helps with resistant creatures.
In theory, since elemental spell does not modify the spells descriptors, you can still apply the draconic bloodline arcana to your icy-fire spell :D
Also, the draconic bloodline is my favorite for blasting. At level 6, my sorc was routinely throwing out 40 damage freezing arcs.
