The Shifty Mongoose |
As soon as I got the idea, I realized that I should never use it. Not because I hate the class, or because it'd be feat-intensive, but because nobody would like this guy:
An evil Diviner: the self-proclaimed Runelord of the Eighth Sin.
...The sin of impertinence!
That'd be the type of wizard who'd go around reading people's minds to look for anything that could be used for gossip or blackmail, who'd scry on you while you're on the privy, who'd set up insulting Magic Mouths, and when you've finally had enough of him and want to give him a much-deserved beating, he's always given himself protection from whatever energy you try to throw at him, or has a Contingency ready.
I'd never do this, because the rest of his group would come to hate him really quickly, and even as an antagonist, nobody would like him.

I thought of a Half-elf/Half-Tian-min Broodmaster Summoner. He has 8 small Eidolons, each one took the form of a small elemental dragon (air, earth, fire, metal, thunder, void, water and wood). Each dragon would have a personnality tied to his element. With a Gm approval, I would switch some summon of the ''Summon Monster'' list to fit a more asian themed list (Kami, Onii, etc)
I won't play him in one of my GM game since he always go overkill (ex: In City of the Spider Queen, we had 36 death. In Legacy of Fire, 17 death. Homebrew, 16 death, he gave us a ring of Breath of Life.)... but I would play him in a more RP game.

I tried to play her many time, but my DM hated Rogue and enjoyed killing us with unappropriate monster...(so I took the DM role)
A kitsune Rogue/Witch/Arcane Trickster (with the two-world magic (mage hand) trait). By the day, she would play as a human mystic, selling potion/scroll and helping the poor. But in the night, she would assume her real apparence (a kitsune) and become the leader of a small group of thieves that would call her ''greyfox''.
That's a bold character to play; the witch loses a lot going trickster, and the spells don't sync very well.
Still, I give you points for an awesome concept. It's a shame about the DM, though.
FanaticRat |
Ratfolk Gulch Gunner who considers life too short to not spend surrounded by shiny things and partying it up with all the money she earns. Also deathly afraid of water.
A chaotic evil summoner/gunslinger who is very charismatic and tries to justify his hedonistic, nihilistic ventures through lines of very elegant pseudo-logic. No, I didn't steal this idea from anywhere else. Why do you ask?
An otaku human kensai whose parents wanted him to be a wizard but cut him out of their will after he spent all his time screwing around.
Golden-scaled kobold paladin who is more or less the butt-monkey of the universe but very well meaning.
Kobold alchemist who is insanely loyal to her friends but comes off as creepy very often and feels no remorse at offing traitors.
Chainsmoking conspiracy theorist wizard who thinks everyone is out to get him and who has crazy theories that are right half of the time, but no one believes him because how outlandish the theories are (and because he's wrong the other half of the time).
A kitsune who hates kitsune culture and always takes the form of a human, trying to adopt as much human culture as possible.
And of course, anything else ratfolk, kitsune, kobold, nagaji, gilmen, summoner...I'm pretty sure I'm never going to run into a gm that would allow even half of the race/class combos I would like, or that the characters would just be too weak to even do anything.
ED-209 |
A narcissistic Oracle who rejects the gods and believes his powers come from his "personal spiritual mission" and "inner light." He has a club foot (lame curse) and expects the rest of the party to carry him on a litter to each encounter and to address him as "The Servant of The People" or "Your Humility."
Tyrantherus |
A Wizard who took part in a shape-shifting experiment, to which it went awry and left him warped. He rose a midst the depths of his sullen form, emerging with a much larger, and fearsome shape. Those who call upon his name would be visited, as he teleports whenever one calls his name. With him, he brings word of the devastation that had been endowed upon him, and the endangerment that his kind has been through. Now, he is known as the Humanatee, part human part manatee.

I know that the witch isn't an optimal choice for the Arcane Trickster. But some hex go well for a ''thief themed'' caster. Charm,Disguise, Slumber, Peacebond, Flight, Unnerve Beast and Feral Speech have their use.
Unnerve a dog to distract a guard; Speak with a crow to look inside a house; Peacebond an aggressive patrol running after you; disguise yourself in a servant, etc.

I had an inspiration for a CN Synthesist Summoner Gnome who was obsessed with anatomy and physiology. His "Eidolon" was actually going to be the magically altered carcass of a Fire drake that he was attempting to 'upgrade' into a full feldged Red Dragon so he could pilot it from the inside. After defeating an enemy, he would begin dissecting and making notes. I had a vision of him standing knee deep in a Bullet's entrails, holding a tattered, bloodied notebook aloft and furiously scribbling anatomical facts he discovered.
Ever remember going to Red Lobster as a kid and you would be fascinated how when you would pull on that hanging string of sinew on the end of the crab claw you could make it open and close? He would essentially be that writ large.
I didn't play him for two reasons. 1) Synthesists---well, just about every kind of Summoner really---are stupidly over powered and 2) Could you imagine how unpleasant that guy would be to be around? I couldn't fathom a party that would tolerate him.

All great ideas, guys.
Just had another idea last night, of a lawful evil Gunslinger, basically a Mafioso type who seeks to start his own crime family, for all intents and purposes. And he'd really value honor, tradition and family(despite using jarringly modern and forward thinking weapons), so he could adventure with a standard party without gunning them down for no reason.
But, y'know, evil characters get a bad wrap, what with them being, well, evil, so there's that.

Bards.
But I have had a couple of ideas for bards that would be funny to try out.
#1 - Halfling/gnome bard. With a tuba. Sized for a medium character.
#2 - Half-Orc or Orc Bard. With a big bass drum strapped to his chest. Make him a TWF with two clubs or light maces (which are his drumsticks) and improved bull rush/overrun (because the drum helps him run things over).
#3 - Dwarf bagpiper. It would need to be a wisdom-based bard archetype based on inspiring fear in enemies rather than bolstering the confidence of your friends. If there was such an archetype I might actually play it.

A broodmaster summoner who acts like a puppet master. His eidolons (puppets) are caricatures of the rest of his team. That alone could cause problems not to mention statting out all the eidolons and the turns and everything.
I am planning on using him as a villain in an upcoming campaign though, which I feel allows me a bit more freedom.
