JiCi wrote:I'd like to see offensive Water spells that deal lethal damage in the same range as the fire and lightning spells. Same goes with Wind, Cold, Earth/Rock, Light and Darkness....do I sense a certain Final Fantasy vibe?
Final Fantasy, Tales of, Avatar The Last Airbender, Fairy Tail, name it... a JRPG/anime/cartoon vibe is more like it.
I just feel that playing a spellcaster specialized in water magic doesn't have the right spells to fit a decent party role.
Wind magic had a few spells back in 3.5, including Cyclonic Blast which was a line-shaped 15d6 damage spell.
Cold? Where's my Fireball counterpart that can deal up to 10d6 points of cold damage?
Earth, Stone and Rock are either fix damage or field control, but rarely about scaling damage.
Light and Darkness almost never deal damage, it's always about blinding or obscuring. Searing Light, Sunbeam and Sunburst are decent, but they are also limited to mostly divine spellcasters, not arcane. An undead-slaying mage could use some spells to light things up.
I'm not wishing for a truckload of scalable damaging spells, just a decent amount so Fire, Electricity, Sonic and Acid aren't they only elements that get the job done.

A wishlist:
A handful of hexes, not major or grand
A plus-one to eidolons and the summoner brand
A waveful of sea-spells, both under and on
And some oracles curses - to be put upon.Spells for the races
Not just case-by-cases
Spells for the places -
Ley, realm or chasesI see spells for dimensions
That may be flipped, spun or canted
And many more mentioned
So I'm feeling I've ranted
But can you englamour, and here's no dissension,
The jaded, bereft or plain disenchanted*?*(That's right folks, null-magic)
What a lovely poem!

I've been doing some pondering and one thing I always liked was the Epic spells from the old Epic Level Handbook. I know that the system making for making/casting the spells wasn't the best and they weren't balanced that well. But I always liked the idea that here's a spell that's so powerful it needs to be created like you would create a magic item. I thought the idea behind them were cool. Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way.
I wonder if there's a place for "Artifact" spells. Maybe spells that can't be cast unless you use Mystic power.
Just my 3 cents,

Well, at 1,001 I get out the matches and make a pyromaniacal video. This may take a little coordination and safety testing (ie, it ain't going live for a week or two), but it should be worth it.
Oh, and I'm working on an update to the stretch goals. I feel like I've been behind on announcing those since about Day 2. But we've funded 30 of them, and the book is so much stronger now!

Will you be wearing a Kobold costume? I just have this image in my head of a human sized kobold playing with matches and chattering incoherently....
...Then a couple of guys with a white jacket try to help the Kobold hug itself in a nice soft room....
Though it could just be a flashback to my younger days.

This sounds pretty awesome. Can't wait to get it!
For those pondering new spells, there are lots of areas that remain either untapped or only lightly so;
Spells of law, good or chaos that aren't just variations of each other (or spells of evil), like protection from X or dispel X or holy/unholy word/smite. A good spell that interdicts evil spells and the spell-like abilities of evil subtype creatures, for instance, or a chaotic spell of misrule that strengthens chaos type magic and creatures, and hinders law subtype creatures and spells.
Spells for the eastern 'elements' of wood, metal or void, covering damaging options, defensive options and / or utility spells.
Elemental spells of earth, air and water that have little or nothing to do with acid, lightning and cold. My dwarven earth-wizard wants to create tremors and make difficult terrain and chuck rocks at people's heads, not throw acid!
Spells of abjuration and divination that aren't reactive or out-of-combat only. Defensive divinations. Offensive divinations and abjurations. Maybe even spells of abjuration and divination that *have descriptors.*
Spells specific to the oracle or sorcerer, that interact with the other class features of those spontaneous casters, and therefore aren't useful to clerics or wizards.
Sacred *arcane* magic (theurgy?), that interacts with divine power, good, evil or otherwise.
Profane magic, that *hinders* divine power, and would be practiced by arcane anti-theists. The sorts of spells that might crop up in a nation of atheists, for instance, or in a setting, such as Call of Cthulhu, where the 'gods' are all Things Man Was Not Meant to Know.
Cantrips. Can always use a good cantrip.

Set, cantrips are surprisingly hard to design well. But we have some. And the rest of your list is excellent and under advisement.
Oceanshieldwolf, I think that if we get to 2001 backers, I will absolutely attempt to locate some bones and menhirs.
The fireball scroll is added to the PDF scrolls for backers, and the original will go to the Archmage pledge. If we don't get an archmage... Not sure.

With 16 days to go, you may end up with more material than will fit in 296 pages. This is only my second kick starter but this one has gone nova. More than anything else I want lots of elemental spells.
Well they've capped the amount of new chapters, so I'm figuring page count won't grow too much more - backers getting a hardback at $30 kinda crimps the return on postage for a start, let alone bulkified content. PDFs, more premium artist/color art and other enticements are possible...

@Saint Bernard, you can find a LOT of elemental spells in the Dragon Magic category has right now, but there is always room for more!
If we do go over 296 pages, I'm sure we'll think of something. In the past, Kobold Press has taken the "cutting room floor" materials and made a PDF out of them.
@umarian, the Hero Lab files right now include all the spells and all the archetypes. There is a stretch goal to add the Bloodlines and Oracle elements to the files as well. Neil Spicer's NPCs are not currently on the list, though of course that could change.

Ahh. I wasn't sure. Looks like we need more contributors to get the rest of the stuff into HL....let me help with that one....
The Kobold Press eTeam, the ones doing the HL coding for all of this, got the first parts of this last week to start the work on entering it into HL. Can I just say WOW!!!! There is a LOT of really neat stuff in here! I haven't been able to read through all of it yet, but what I have read has been amazing!
I have seen spells to represent all of the 4 elements (Didn't look for the Eastern elements), mythic spells that do more than just add numbers to a dice or number of dice, spells that would fit in great with some of the module themes (maybe some ocean related modules that are still newly out), and several other really amazing works!
Though I will say, my favorite part thus far has been the Runes!!!!! I am really liking them. Think I have read through that section a half dozen times at least already.
Just looking at the small part we got (I say small, but it is over 200 pages of wall-o-text. No nice formatting to be easy on the eyes yet.) I am even more excited about this than I was before. It looks like it is going to have something for everyone.

$66,000 reached and the school of necrophagy is in the book!
The much hinted about 1,234 Backers goal has also been revealed:
A SECOND BOOK for Wizard-level backers and up in PDF, and in print+PDF for Bards and up: The Kobold Guide to Magic will contain new essays on magic and the fantastic by well-known game designers and novelists

I am delighted to say that it WILL be awesome. Current stretch goal is to add 20 new Bloodlines to the book, plus about 10 or so Oracle Mysteries.
Are these new bloodlines and mysteries included in Deep Magic or the Kobold's Guide to Magic? Amanda was referring to the new Kobold Guide, but the Kickstarter seems to refer to Deep Magic?!?
If you know someone who loves sorcerers or oracles, let them know about this project.
By "seeks" does that mean KP is looking for contributors for bloodlines and mysteries?
