No comment. and yes Spelljammer rules.

Shooting wrapped this week and they're off into post-production. Final release is still 3 March 2023.

Thanks for the update, Wert.

Seems so far out, but then again, who wants to release a movie right now?

I doubt the current environment is a major consideration—I'd expect 12 months of post-production on an effects-heavy film like this. They've given themselves 6 to 8 months of buffer. So it's not a great time to release a movie, but the earliest they could get it out would be late next year no matter what.

I'm with Tom, it's not like we know for sure what 2022 or even late 2022 will look like post-pandemic.

Also, there is a backlog of movies that were to come out last year or early this year that needs to be cleared (along with movies slated for nowish being pushed back because of the backlog) . . . It'll take some time to catch up.

Well they need to add in all those tropical forests, epic mountains and all the other stuff missing from balmy South Iceland where they filmed initially. They reportedly dropped $11.5 for Chris Pine, so that must mean his character is the lead protagonist and gives some hope for competence among the director/producers towards building this film into something that garners at least a 7.5 on IMDB - in the same league as Jackson's adaptation of The Hobbit.

In other related news rumors:
Joe Manganiello hints at more D&D in his future. One wonders if that will be something he's doing or participating in with the like of Derek Kolstad for instance.

Balmy Southern Iceland sure looks like a lush environment that could stand in for so many environments.

Agree with you there, Dirtypool.

All I know is I'm glad we're going back to Neverwinter...

Y'all are killing my desire to see this movie with all this OCD baiting stuff. It's funny to bang on the glass once and watch the fish scatter, but it's mean to keep doing it.

In the (paraphrased) words of Elsa, "Let it go, let it go, let it goooo!"

Wait...am I baiting?? I thought I was just commenting on Neverwinter....

Neverwinter = the Fey instantiation of Iceland!

:D

Not sure I agree with that...

Wouldn’t believing that an expansive kingdom that is permanently an enchanted summer despite the cold outside the walls is an analogue for Iceland serve to disprove your repeated statements about Iceland?

Are you asking me or QB?

You didn’t claim that Neverwinter was an analogue for Iceland, so why would you think I was asking you?

Because I confuse easily...

Don't beat yourself up, the world's definitely confusing. But here let me help you with Neverwinter/Iceland.

Neverwinter:
The Neverwinter River is heated by fire elementals living under the nearby volcano before flowing through the forest and into the city. The river carries the warmth with it, keeping the harbor from freezing up in winter and the gardens green year-round.

Iceland:
The warm water created by Iceland’s Nesjavellir Power Plant is pumped to the residents of Reykjavík, 27 kilometers away. The pipeline is so well insulated that the water only loses 1.8°C on its journey. Making the homes of these Icelanders perfectly warm even in the dark depths of winter.

Amazing! They are total analogs of one another! Tech that works like magic and magic that works like tech!

Yeah I’m sure that when Ed Greenwood wrote the first description of Neverwinter he was basing it on a geothermal power station that wouldn’t be built for another four years.

*sides with Dirtypool on this one...*

He's never been cute, dirtypool. He just think he is.

Indeed and it is getting very old.

It's been old for a while. I just tune it out most of the time.

So...anyone know if we got stills yet?

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Nothing official, they did end principal photography very recently, so it will likely be a bit.

With a release date 18 months away, I'll hazard a guess for something during the coming holidays and then not until next spring/summer.

This would be halpful to know!

;D

Not sure... Hook Horror?
Or Tall Mouther!? (Wrong part of Færûn, though...)

Hard to say without knowing much about the plot...

Oh! Owlbear!!
(Not D&D exclusive but...)

Well, beholders are sort of the trademark D&D-copyrighted monster, so I'd suspect one of those (or more if we get some Zhents involved)

Mind Flayers might be a bit much for the first movie, though...

Of the 'exclusive' D&D monsters, I'd love to see a Displacer Beast. That's one of the few that D&D kept out of the OGL that I like a lot.

I doubt we're get Mind Flayers in this movie. Beholders...maybe. Displacer beasts seem more realistic to show up in the first movie.
