I don't know how to feel about Led Zeppelin being used in a D&D trailer. It seems off somehow.

What, you wanted Dio maybe?

I actually liked it - it evoked Thor: Ragnarok purposefully I think, since that seems to be the blend of humor and action the movie is going for.

Yeah I mean I think there are plenty of good bands, but Led Zepplin is pretty classic.

I don’t think they will use modern music in the actual film - I think they just did it in this first trailer to set the tone the movie will have

I don't think anyone is suggesting that either. Or at least I doubt they'll have the bard/Chris Pine do Stairway to Heaven as they fight...

First poster!

Including, erm, pre-existing PATHFINDER stock art of an intellect devourer.

I'm sure that's going to be fine.

It's close to the picture in the 1E Bestiary, but not quite identical.

It's directly lifted from the PF2e Bestiary 2

I believe Hasbro have clarified this was a fan poster created for the event which they gave permission to have there, rather than an officially-created Hasbro product. The film's actual poster has been released and is completely different.

They contracted poster artist Boss Logic who creates custom photoshop posters and provided him with the art elements that were used in the creation of the poster. According to Boss Logic himself. These were posters to pass out at the booth at Comic Con.

Even so, it's clearly some error that I think isn't worth discussing right now. More is how cool is it to have a decent/non-jerk paladin in the party.

Seems a stretch to make a judgement like that about the Paladin based on a fight scene, and some background dialogue free shots - but sure.

Maybe I just think the casting of Regé-Jean Page is a sign of import...but that's just me.

Sign of import and decent/non-jerk paladin in the party are two completely separate things. One doesn't necessarily lead to the other.

Maybe so. I just think it might.

Im hoping for a likable paladin too.

Im hoping with the improvement in superhero movies over the last thirty years that this one wont suck. :o

Likable and not a jerk are also not quite the same thing. One can be likable while still being a jerk. E.G. Tony Stark, Stephen Strange, any Bill Murray character ever.

One interesting thing here -- it appears that the main cast are all thieves, so the paladin is not necessarily a goody two-shoes.

5E paladins can be wildly different from previous editions.

But is it 5e? I mean it's never stated what edition we're in. Other than we're (possibly) Faerun.

Oh I doubt they pay much attention to the rules. I was just making an offhand comment.

If there is any effort put in to rules fidelity though, I’d expect it to be 5E, personally.

Eh. I figured they'd go with old schoolish LG Paladin...

I think for most people currently playing, D&D = 5E.
I doubt the douchey paladin is much of a thing amongst “kids these days”.

I’ll be interested to see though!
(I hope it’s a good movie).

We’re getting a bit off topic, but … despite all the “jerk paladin” chatter we see online, I’ve seen many paladin characters played in person (and played a few myself) and I’ve never personally experienced that type of behavior.

Not saying it doesn’t exist, but I wonder how much of it is real and how much is just self-perpetuating online bs?

I was unaware that paladins were supposed to be jerks/evil until I started frequenting D&D fora. Never seen it in person.

I've only experienced as a DM. But very rarely.

Anyways, Bard Pine rules.

We definitely suffered from it in the 80s. I havent seen it since we grew up though.

Hasbro will be cross-market-pollinating (whatever) the hell out of the movie into D&D products, so if they are referencing stuff it will be out of 5E.

Also, it is Faerun. The movie is primarily set in Neverwinter and according to the plot description they also have scenes in Waterdeep and Icewind Dale (presumably with slightly blurry posters for WATERDEEP DRAGON HEIST and RIME OF THE FROSTMAIDEN in the background).

Ooo, I’m very keen to see a modern movie rendition of Waterdeep.
One of my favourite TTRPG settings.

I too will enjoy seeing Waterdeep. It's a nice city to visit. (not sure I want to live there though.)
