Interest Check: Star Wars Imperial campaign (Saga Edition)

Recruitment

Dark Archive

I'm looking to see if enough people would like to play in an Imperial themed campaign that I'm in the process of designing. I'm a first time PbP GM, though I've GM'd many games for years in Tabletop, so some issues may arise, but I don't foresee anything serious.

Here's the premise:
The year is 11 ABY. The second death star has been destroyed. Unlike in the canon, Luke Skywalker died on the death star, along with the Emperor and Darth Vader. As such, the Jedi are now extinct. It's been 6 years since the Empire's defeat at Endor, and the galaxy is locked in a stalemate. Currently, Grand Admiral Thrawn, after returning from the unknown regions, has merged the "Empire of the Hand" with the remaining Imperial worlds and been declared "Supreme Commander" of the Empire. Thrawn has enacted a myriad of changes that have had sweeping effects on the war. Non-humans and women have been integrated into the military and government to an equal degree as men. This has caused an uproar among some of the nobility. The strong support of the Moffs and Admiralty at large, has gone a long way toward stifling dissent, but issues remain.

This is where you come in.

The average Imperial citizen in the core has lived their life under the shadow of the empire, in safety and relative luxury. The "rebellion" (now the "New Republic") has been taking world after world and committing acts of terrorism. This is a frightening thing to most loyal citizens, who just want to live in peace. Defending one's home from a hostile invader is becoming a major surge in support for the war. You are one of these citizens.

The campaign, will center around you being a squadron of Imperial pilots, beginning stationed on a Victory II class star destroyer. I'd like to start characters out at level 5, right on the cusp of becoming an elite force. The game will be as a military drama, the horrors of war and how men and women can come together in times of war. Combat will be handled here. I'm not sure yet how I want to handle maps, but likely will be on Rolld20.

So. How many of you would like to be a part of that sort of thing?

Dark Archive

Hm...I'll bite.

Dark Archive

I'm also open to suggestions on how to handle it. Saga can be clunky at times after all.

I'll be interested

Interested. I'm assuming you'll be using a star wars rule system? I've heard of such, but never participated in one -if that's the case.

The Star Wars Saga Edition is a version of the D20 Ruleset.

Dark Archive

I haven't played SAGA that much so bear with me if I'm a little rusty on the rules.

Is there anything else for character creation we need to know?

Silver Crusade

I am interested. lvl 5 imperial pilot you say? yes sir.

Dark Archive

Character creation will be standard pathfinder point buy for stats (22 points). Dex will need to be 12 or higher. Con and Str 10 or higher (this is the military after all). If you want to be the squadron leader (multiple people can very well vie for this!) you'll need a higher than average charisma.

Male and female are welcome.

Some races are more common in Imperial space than others, even though the Supreme Commander has declared all races equal, this does not sit well with many in the military or with the human nobility.

Human is by far the most common, and you will receive no ill effects from playing one.
Chiss is a powerful race in the new empire, and are more respected (as the supreme commander is a Chiss) than the other "alien" races.
Quarren, Trandoshan, Duros, Gungan, Rodian and Zabrak are other more common races in the Empire. They experience discrimination, but are slowly gaining recognition and prestige throughout the Imperial military.

Other Races: Most are going to be fine to play, just run it by me first if you don't mind. Serious discrimination and constant questioning of your loyalty are a factor.

Prohibited Classes are: Jedi (and anything that requires the force)

The system encourages multiclassing so have at if you so choose. All of the other base classes (Noble, Scout, Soldier, Scoundrel) are excellent choices for the imperial military, and each bring something different to the table. After level 5, the horizons broaden signifigantly with the huge amount of prestige classes available.

Feel free to ask any other questions that come to mind.

**Edit** OH! I forgot to add, Feel free to be force sensitive (or follow things from that feat tree) if you so wish. Just because there are no remaining jedi, doesn't mean that the force isn't still a factor.

This sounds like a ton of fun. Count me in.

Are we specifically required to be pilots? Or can we be storm/scout troopers, that sort of thing?

What about non-Core races? What splatbooks are allowed, if any?

I would prefer to have pilots, but if the group wants to run as a special ops team that utilizes both, I'll see what I can do.

As for non-core races, as I was saying above, most are ok by me, just run it by me first.

As for splatbooks, any of the Saga edition rulebooks books are ok to pull Feats, Talents and prestige classes from. I have all but the droids book, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Dark Archive

After further thought, a combined ground/air team would be fine, so long as enough players wanted to do either.

So we are allowed to take the Force Sensitivity feat and be trained in the Use the Force skill, but are we allowed to take the Force Training feat and use actual force powers? Also, I take it no lightsabers whatsoever?

You have my interest; how about a Zabrak Scoundrel that later Prestiges into Gunslinger and uses a sniper rifle via the Old Faithdul Talent?

Yes, have at. Also yes, no lightsabers whatsoever.

Sounds like it could be interesting.

Suggestion- have you ever read Wraith Squadron?

The notion of a group of soldiers with special skills and abilities who are commandos first and pilots second could work very well for making a part with many different classes.

Very interested in this. How would you feel about having a Droid to act as unit quartermaster, maybe with some hacking or repair skills?

I'm new to the rules set, but I'm a huge Star Wars fan and this seems fun as hell. I'm pretty flexible and will play whatever the party needs. After I look up the rules I'll start working on an alias

Interested

Yes actually, that's where I'm getting a lot of my ideas for how to handle a "mixed" squad.

I'd be fine with a droid like that.

Cool, I'll have him/her (not sure yet maybe I'll roll percentile) ready by Wednesday evening.

When you say the pathfinder point buy system. You mean that all abilities start at 10?

okerproker wrote:

Yes. All abilities start at 10, you have 22 points to spend. Point costs are as follows:

11:1
12:2
13:3
14:5
15:7
16:10
17:13
18:17

You still looking for players? I've only ever GM'd the Saga Edition and would love a chance to play. I was thinking of a Bothan scout, eager to show his loyalty to the Empire in the face of his brothers and sisters who are so eager to betray it.

How do we do level up hp? Are we going to roll on here or are you using a set number per level?

Dark Archive

I seem to have plenty of interest. I'll be making a recruitment thread sometime next week.

As for HP, we'll roll on here, or take average. Whatever the player wants.

I'm interested in the game, but would definitely need some aid with the system. If there's a SRD document somewhere, count me in. Otherwise, you'd have to hold my hand a little.

Weeelll... Dot for interest.

Unfortunately, since all of Saga edition is WotC proprietary; there is no legal SRD for the system, but you might be able to find PDF's somewhere, if not, I'll help however I can. (I'm not completely sure if it is owned by WotC or not, but the basic premise is the same,- sorry if I seem rude, at all)

Heavy weapons sergeant reporting for duty.

Had this guy in an old campaifn so I thought id dust him off

Bueller? Bueller?

Liberty's Edge

Hmmm. First time I've ever heard someone try to use the saga edition ruleset. Had the books for awhile now, but never found anyone interested in them. Perhaps I'll dust off the old hardcovers and see what I can cook up.

Liberty's Edge

The concept is forming for a techincal-minded rifleman with computer savvy and mechanical know-how. In simple terms of role, he's a slicer, a sniper, and a serious custom equipment specialist (If I get a chance, this guy's gonna design a starship. Always wanted to do that.)

A question comes to mind, since I'm having trouble tracking down a written answer: how many credits should we be using to purchase our starting gear?

Or, since we're military, do we HAVE starting gear? or are we getting some "standard issue" stuff after the fact? Not sure how to handle that part just yet.

Dark Archive

"Dirty" Harry Calahan, Yes, I'm still around. I'm making the recruitment thread now.

Dark Archive

You'll be issued equipment.

Liberty's Edge

Awww, no custom heavy miniaturized blaster rifle with scope and secret compartments?

I R sadface.

Guess I'll have an alias up soon. Backstory's basically done for me, checked over everything best I can to make sure I have it all in order. Pretty sure I do; it's been ages since I looked at my SE books, had to re-read a BUNCH of things. Game seriously needs an SRD, all the good stuff is scattered across so many books, lol.
