Thank-you for running this one, GM SV!
Player name Yours is mined
Character name Zhang Chunhua (given name = Chunhua)
PFS number 69095-8
Faction Dark Archive
Day job None
Progression speed Normal
Chunhua is a vanilla fighter who specializes in archery.
The only real ‘shenanigan’ is she has an extra trait chronicle, and has chosen guiding spirit, which basically gives a ‘roll d20 twice, take best’ as a swift action.

Good to have you on board YiM!
By the way, the slides for this adventure are brought to you by GM Ladile. I'm reusing her slides with permission - because they are much better than what I'd come up with on my own :)

Faction The Grand Lodge

Good to see both of you!
Ouita is a brawling Blademaster, my favorite ‘new’ archetype! No shenanigans I can think of!

Player name: TriShadow
Character name: Fate (Mkono wa Hatima)
PFS number:151777-16
Faction: Dark Archive
Day job: Craft (Sculpture): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 (Might use a reroll if available at the end)
Progression speed: Normal
No real shenanigans. He is underpowered at 4th level, so playing down shouldn't outshine the others. He's a Buffer/debuffer without any real offense.
He does have some cash to spend, so I may pick up a headband of a staff before we start.

Only done one Core game, First time on Society Play Standard, so call me out if I do something wrong.
Thok is Half-Orc Goliath Druid, with no animal companion
| GM supervillan |
Welcome Thok. All the essential rules are the same in Standard - there are just a lot more options to choose from in character building.
Please update your character sheet before we begin. There's plenty of time, we don't kick off till 6 September. If you have any questions then ask away.
He is underpowered at 4th level
No character with Misfortune Hex is underpowered :D

It's been a long, hot summer my friend. Triple-digit heat on two separate occasions. That would be in the low 40's for you. Been some haze from fires, but not nearly as bad as last year. Now just gearing up for school while I finish my Masters degree. That will be November 1st, not that I have marked my calendar or anything.
How about you my brother? How is life in the Southern Hemisphere?
Thok Yilmir
|
Having realized the Goliath Druid doesn't get to wild shape till level 6th, I'm switching it to Vanilla. He'll still have the growth domain to be a big fellow.
Thok Yilmir

Scratch that, keeping the Archetype, didn't read it right
Zhang Chunhua
|
Don't sweat it, Thok. You are among friends here.
Not sure if you know or not, but you can change anything about your PC (apart from their PFS organized play number) up until you sit down to play them at second level.
So if you want to experiment -- go nuts!
There is a veritable Druid's Conclave of experience with PFS 1e play-by-post at this table (and our GM is one of the best), so don't be afraid to ask any questions.
We were all new to the medium once ;)

I usually tend to make rogue skill monkeys, or controller wizards, I'm trying out the divine casters now for a change. (Druids and clerics) and im finding much more richer roleplaying ideas.
I like the idea of this primitive druid (might make him a little dumber just for the theme) who understand the law of strength. (intimidating and pushy on social situations, and swinging a big club when needed)
I realize I'll be losing the subtle forms of the druid, but I'll play that on another campaign.
When you say change everything, is it between sessions or mid-session?
| GM supervillan |
Between sessions. You're allowed to fully rebuild until you play the character at level 2, then it is fixed. (Though there's always Ultimate Campaign retraining rules if you need them later).
If you do a level 1 rebuild you can change anything except for the character number, XP and Prestige/Fame totals. You can sell gear at full price, but you can't get back money spent on consumables that have been used nor can you get back Prestige spent on items.
There's an additional consideration for PbP: once you've posted 10 times with an alias you can no longer change the name of that alias. You can, however, make a new alias to post with if this ever becomes an issue.

Oh yeah, divine casters have a built in roleplaying dimension which is well-suited to play-by-post.
When I built my first PFS 1e druid, I considered whether I wanted to go 'pure caster', or 'melee focussed via wildshape' with an animal companion flanking buddy.
I decided on 'summoning caster' but have found she is also a capable healer/utility caster, which is mainly how I've played her through the levels.
Druid is certainly a flexible class.
Ouita Shelbourne
|
I typically play some sort of arcane caster type, but Druids are a close #2. I tend toward the caster Druid myself, but I do have a high level Goliath Druid that spends most of his time in mountain troll form that is pretty sweet.

Looking forward to 6th of September to try it out :)
I have another campaign just starting where I'm trying out an ecclesitheurge, that's also a fun one, it's a divine wizard essentially
Drukpa Marpo

Player name: Abraham Z.
Character name: Drukpa Marpo
PFS number: 100198-19
Faction: Silver Crusade
Day job: none
Progression speed: normal track
And any peculiar shenanigans you might have: None, but he's super dumb (Int 5) and I try to play him that way, hopefully without derailing the action.
| GM supervillan |
I will give Iddo until Friday morning (GMT) then declare a no-show and look for a replacement on Flaxseed.
Drukpa Marpo
|
If no one turns up I have no objection to going forward with a party of 5. What could possibly go wrong?
Zhang Chunhua
|
I have a friend outside the Flaxseed community who enjoys the occasional PFS 1e play-by-post game.
I could reach out to them to see if they're interested if you give me the goahead, GM
| GM supervillan |
Welcome PAZ, there is a seat available for you :)
The game is low tier (and subtier 1-2) but any character up to level 4 would fit without changing the tier.
Once you've checked in to Gameplay and introduced yourself (and answered the Venture-Captain's question) we will resume.

Shenanigans: Extra Traits
Possible Shenanigans: I was trying to find the first edition PFS Guide to look up wording for this. I have a chronicle from an Adventure Path (for level 6), but I took the reduced, level 1 gold for it. There is a boon on the chronicle sheet (that also has a disadvantage). I seem to remember a rule about needing to be the minimum level on the chronicle sheet to use boons, but I'm not 100% sure on the wording of that. In the past I have had different GMs rule that I can use this boon now (at level 3) since I took the level 1 gold and have applied the chronicle sheet already, and some have ruled that I cannot use the boon until level 6. I am 100% ok with whatever ruling you decide - and if anyone knows the official ruling on this one way or the other, please let me know!
| GM supervillan |
Zephon, the boons need to wait until you reach the minimum level on the chronicle sheet.
You can apply credit from a higher-tier adventure to a 1st-level Roleplaying Guild character. When doing so, reduce the gp reward to 500 gp if the adventure grants 1 XP or 1,398 gp if it grants 3 XP. You do not benefit from any boons until your Roleplaying Guild character reaches the minimum level listed on the Chronicle sheet, unless otherwise noted.
I take it your extra traits come from boons?
Zephon Whitefire
|
No problem, and thank you for the clarification. Yes, my extra traits are from boons. The first (Charming) is the Extra Trait boon from a convention, and the second (Force for Good) is from the New Recruits boon from #5-99 The Paths We Choose.
Zephon Whitefire
|
I'm not sure if this would count as shenanigans, but one of my traits gives me a good aura. The celestials might appreciate that if they are able to detect such things.
Force For Good (Campaign/Silver Crusade Faction) Your good-aligned spells are especially powerful, and they function at +1 caster level. This trait makes your aura more powerful (one step higher), as outlined in the detect evil spell.
| GM supervillan |
There are some notes in the scenario relating to PCs auras, although mainly to do with evil auras :o
That's an interesting trait. I wouldn't call it shenanigans until it's used to power up something like a Holy Word to silly caster level though ;)
| GM supervillan |
I've assumed the answer is no because you're all pretty low level, but you may have met Valais Durant before in #5–09: The Traitor’s Lodge or #7–17: Thralls of the Shattered God.
Traitor's Lodge is a tier 3-7 and 7-17 is a tier 5-9.
(Do pipe up if your current character has met Valais Durant before - would have to have been in Traitor's Lodge).
Zhang Chunhua

Chunhua has not met Valais Durant before.
I have not played #5-09 full stop
Played #7-17 over VTT with Aeliah and one of Drukpa's PCs -- Otto O'Read & Allison

As Chunhua noted, Heaven affects people differently depending upon their 'philosophical outlook' (alignment).
Slide 7 summarises the mechanical effects.

Nope, I think you might be thinking of a different scenario or player? Otto (and me as a player) haven't done 7-17 yet (or 5-09 for that matter).
| GM supervillan |
Played with a different character in Traitor's Lodge, so the player is familiar with it, but not the character.
Mmmm, I think I remember that game :o
| GM supervillan |
does this affect the DC's of my spells/abilities, or just checks I make?
Heaven's Planar traits affect any INT, WIS or CHA checks. So this doesn't affect your ability or spell DCs, but will affect Concentration checks, skill checks that use these abilities, and straight ability checks.
| GM supervillan |
Have any of your characters played scenario 9-12 Shrine of the Sacred Tempest?
