I'll torture you even further.
How's this for a maddening statement:
I think the community will be surprised by either the strong presence of or startling absence of a significant number of marathon voters being represented in the top 32.
I'm guessing startling absence here (as strong presence might not be as much of a surprise) which means that [looks at voter status] ... yeah... OK... ummm... I'll start focusing on my round 2 archetype... maybe... ;)

any chance at simply compiling the judge's comments for the top 90, differentiating between the +32 and -58, and making a locked thread for us to read through?

I call shenanigans! You just said earlier that you judged anonymously and were therefore waiting along with everyone else to see who made it!

OR...he knows a statement like this will get under the skin of Marathon Tag voters whether it is true or not the second guessing, nervous nail biting, and hopeless reassuring has begun in each of the minds of any Marathon voter who entered.

We have our Top 32 and 4 alternates.
When we move them to the Keep folder, they're no longer anonymous to the judges.
We have a lot of familiar faces this year. And some new ones.
And, as Clark said, an impressive number of people who got a title this year for voting. :)

I expect to see a correlation between marathon voters this year and people who make the Top 32 next year. But I'm sure anyone who has the time to vote 1000+ times also has the time and dedication to thoroughly read all the rules and feedback threads for the previous years. That, and spend a significant number of hours polishing their item.

Next year, yes. This year? *Sigh* I made a few errors that a quick preview before posting would have been obvious. Rookie mistake. :(
So no need to wait until 5 tomorrow. May as well release the list now and give the finalists more time to prepare!
Clearly, you're unfamiliar with the prolonged, soulful torture that is...RPG Superstar! ;-)
It happens Feros, if you look at my item from 2010, you'll notice the italics tag isn't working. Fortunately the judges are somewhat lenient on that kind of stuff, because they are looking for best designers, not best items.
My advice to competitors is to ignore the boards and get some sleep tonight, because if you make Top 32, you are going to need to be well rested and mentally prepared.
While I may not be a Champion or Marathon voter, as a Dedicated Voter I'm not a complete scrub though.
I get the torture, and am enjoying it along with the rest of the crew.

While I may not be a Champion or Marathon voter, as a Dedicated Voter I'm not a complete scrub though.

I'm really hoping to see some folks from the 9 Blazing Months thread hit the Top 32. I don't post much, but I've been watching that thread and seeing a lot of good work being done there.
Me too. If I cannae get the gold my self why not coach an Olympian :)

I kind of feel like poor map guy's missing half the ride though. Poor guy... must be feeling pretty bad... maybe...
Anyway Eric, best of luck and I hope you get that magic triple. I'm looking forward to seeing how many of the regulars make it in as much as my own fate. Best of luck everyone and see you all at judgment hour.

Celebrating, and polishing archetypes, monsters, etc. Grr, unfair. (Well, everyone should be working on their submissions for later rounds, but...) Lucky bastard, that MapGuyver. :D

I might take a swing at it next year. As I've said in other threads, item creation is not my strong suit - if the game opened with monster making or encounter design I'd feel a lot more comfortable about my chances in the opening gambit, but having to get through the item creation round makes me rather unconfident. If I have any weakness as a GM, it's my lack of originality with items.

There were multiple maps as I recall. So someone could still be up for crushing despair with the rest of us.
I might take a swing at it next year. As I've said in other threads, item creation is not my strong suit - if the game opened with monster making or encounter design I'd feel a lot more comfortable about my chances in the opening gambit, but having to get through the item creation round makes me rather unconfident. If I have any weakness as a GM, it's my lack of originality with items.
I'd highly recommend it Orthos, it's a great competition. And you have plenty of time to practice for next year's comp.

Indeed. Only one is coming to mind for me, but I'm still waiting to see if we're all like "Oh, that wasn't the map I was thinking of." "...What map were you thinking of?!"
As much as I'd love to be Map-Guy (or Map-Gal), it'd almost be worst because there's a chance you could be Map-Person-Who-Thought-They-Were-In-Only-To-Be-Devistated-At-The-Last-Minut e.
Personally, my money is on there being several repeaters as well as a couple of "familiar faces" that are familiar from being also-rans that have been active in the community. Sounds like the crop this year was fantastic, so it's extra exciting.

Agreed. I highly recommend participating in the 9 Blazing Months practice thread that will be started after the competition ends. It's fun, but for those who are working on improving their item-creation mojo, it's a great opportunity. No pressure there, but lots of I think good feedback. You can easily see people improving over the course of the thread's life.
The curse of the Champion voters is that they really can't say if any of them got in due to there only being 3, and that would narrow it down quite a bit.

I expect Clark to come in and say "I can neither confirm nor deny that two of the three champion voters made the cut."
You know, I just realized something.
I'm so glad that the past few days were so busy that I've had zero time to even look at the boards since about Thursday.
After all, these posts and clues and hints would have been much, much more agonizing had I been reading it all over the weekend. And besides, it let me enjoy my Friday and Sunday games all the more since I wasn't thinking about Superstar :)
