Avast, me hearties! I'm super excited to work with all of you. I think we're going to have a diverse and interesting pirate crew on our hands, and this should be a journey for the ages!

Sidenote: If anything happens to Jack and he ends up dying, I think I'm gonna come back with a wereshark-kin bloodrager as my second character. :P Despite all the shark-themed submissions, we managed to not start with any!

I look forward to feasting on... er... playing with you all.

I might have a couple of minor adjustments to my character. Maybe a drawback/trait.

If anything happens to Jack and it's late enough in our career, perhaps I could "bring him back" after a fashion. No guarantees his flesh would remain. A guys gotta eat :p

Sounds interesting! I'd love to see how the bloodrager operates, and we don't have a 'big guy' character around. Not that we need to have one, but there's room for one - Ostarian, you don't count. ;)

Also, a hulking half-shark barbarian would look pretty badass. =)

On another note, I have to admit, Iogorian scares me! And I'm glad he's in! Equal parts mad doctor and double-dealing conman, and both sides done well. Damn, mate, if you do your own homebrew I'd love to see what villains you come up with. XD

All things considered, love the party! Good mix of characters and really interested to see how the interactions work out! =)

GM:

I don't know how you'd like to deal with Pipsqueak the Osprey given the press-ganged start to the campaign, but i'd be happy with him simply keeping track of the ship in the sky until Peggy awakens.

Hey Rorrix, just a heads-up that since aasimars of any background can end up as a default aasimar, I have decided to have Ri'el be a regular Aasimar. Nothing about his background or personality changes, but crunch-wise I figure he could use the additional CHA to get more mileage out of his hexes.

Secondly, is Ri'el good to use a "holy symbol tattoo" as his divine focus? The ACG playtest does not specify what the Shaman's divine focus is, but they use the druid spell list, so it's probably the same focus (holly berries and mistletoe), which one might argue is not a holy symbol per se. Nonetheless I'm hoping a similar specially prepared and ceremonially inscribed tattoo (of mistletoe sprigs down the length of his arms in a coil pattern and a bunch of holly berries on his upper left arm) will serve the same purpose. I've paid extra to have the tattoo in full high-quality colour - if I'm going to be walking around with a tattoo, it should be a good one! If you veto this, I'll go see what else I can fit onto Ri's equipment list without over-encumbering him.

Thanks for the selection, btw. I'm definitely excited to be on this ship! ;)

All right, I'm thinking on taking the Hedonistic drawback. Ostarian's background, along with the Urgathoan concept of gluttony and excess seem to fit with it. It probably means he'll be fatigued more often than not, but even that fits with his girth.

The bonuis trait I'll get for him is Iron Liver (adds +2 vs poison/drugs and +4 vs alcohol effects) as with his eating/drinking to excess, including munching on rotting corpses (which is dealt with in his other trait), I expect he may have built up a bit of resistance there too.

Yes, Pipsqueak and Thali will be flying overhead until Peggy and Ri'el respectively deem it safe for their bird-buds to fly down and join the party.

The tattoo is fine, I like the idea!

Thanks for the update on the changes, Ostarian.

We will begin once everyone confirms that they're ready to start!

Edit: One thing about your sheet, Ostarian; Since you are a dayborn, you lose your spell-like ability. You've got both things listed in your "Race Abilities" section.

Ready to start although, fair warning, it's a long weekend coming up (Sat-Mon) here in Canada. A lot is planned, so I'm not sure about the quantity/quality of posting during that time (as, if I am able to find time to post, it'll be from my phone).

Gah! Hey guys, I'm ready. Sorry to have kept you waiting--I was mindlessly checking the Recruitment and Gameplay threads for updates because for some reason my brain did not think to click here. Thanks for the heads up, Rorrix.

I am excited to see what deals you and I cook up, Ostarian (possibly literally). And I'm glad we have some people scared of Iogorian...I honestly am pretty creeped out by him myself. :P

Ready whenever we want to move forward! Super excited.

    Good point. =)

On another note, I'm not sure how free-form this part of the AP is supposed to be, but my thought is that it may be advantageous to each get a different position on the ship so we're spread out and can gather more gear and allies. I'm guessing that since we've possibly been deprived of our weapons we're not expected to be engaged in combat for now. Or at least not openly. But we may be able to scrounge for easily-concealed weapons and forage for spell components... or maybe even find out where they stashed our stuff and try to recover it back.

If Iogorian can get a position as a ship's surgeon, he might be able to access blades, saws, maybe even some healing kits and alchemical supplies. I might see if I can get to be a navigator so we know roughly where we are and where we are going, or maybe some sort of maintenance work so we can get a good idea of the layout of the ship, including strong/weak points and potential areas where 'accidents' could happen undetected.

Not dictating anything though. Just suggestions and thinking as I type. Do your own thing ('cos a pirate is free). =)

Here are the items each of you still has on you.

Fishhook, superior loaded dice, sewing needle, signal whistle, clothes

I thought that my campaign trait guaranteed that I start with a healer's kit--could be wrong though, as I don't have the player's guide on me at the moment.

Probably a good idea to spread ourselves out if possible!

    And here is the map.

I'm also linking it in the campaign description at the top of the page for convenience.

@Iogorian: That it does. I forgot about that. Add that to your list of things, then, whoops.

    Nice coat!

I'm slowly working on switching out the generic headband pirates for their respective crewmembers. This AP is incredibly thorough, and everyone aboard the ship is unique. The four NPCS to the right of your characters are the ones who appear to have been press-ganged recently, though obviously earlier than you all since they're not being forced to climb like you are.

    Male Gillman Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1

Definitely thought that climb was going to be the death of me...I got lucky. :P

Oh, yes, I should probably mention that it is very very likely that you will die before you even reach level 2. Which is really sad because I like all of your characters so much. So uh. Yeah. Be careful out there! :'D And maybe start working on a backup just in case.

    Male Gillman Alchemist (Vivisectionist) 1

    Oh, well, that's...encouraging. :P

That's even with me houseruling some of the crueler portions of the first part of the first book to be less lethal... I'm not sure if they didn't playtest this AP at all or didn't care or what, but this first book could be featured on 1000 Ways To Die.

    Ok, yeah, that was scary...

Do you mean Dumb ways to die?? =)

    That works too haha.

Let me just say this; the mandatory daily rum rations deal 1d3 Con damage as written. If this were the case, PCs and NPCs alike would be dead in less than a month. From drinking rum once a day. Yeah...

    Scoured Stars Map

Hmm...hopefully they only need evidence that the rum is drunk rather than actually seeing us drink the rum...

Also...HOW MUCH RUM IS IN A DAILY RATION!? O_O

Granted, it does give you a temporary 1d4 Cha bonus for 1d8 hours. I'm not much a fan of the roleplay repercussions of pirates chucking their rum so they can pretend they drank it, though, so I think I'm going to drop the Con damage to 1d2. That way, with healing 1 Con back for each night of rest, you can enjoy your rum without having to fake it unless you run into a few rough nights, which should be less often. I wouldn't be concerned so much if it was just the PCs, but the whole crew is at stake here. You can't really run a ship if everyone dies of alcoholism first.

    And it's only half a pint's worth that's already been watered down to grog. o.o;

    Scoured Stars Map

That...is some really potent brew they're rationing out... maybe to poison the majority of the crew all I need to do is add rum to the daily stew. Assuming I become the cook's assistant.

Don't worry, I'll warn the PCs first, and any friendly NPCs. ;)

Hm, well cooking with alcohol is pretty usual actually, and I'd imagine that would cook out the effects of it. Unless you mean to add it in after the cooking's done, in which case good luck masking the taste of that filth haha. Might still taste better than whatever Kroop's been cooking though; whoever ends up the cook's mate will find out shortly that it's not all it's cracked up to be.

    Scoured Stars Map

I was half-joking about poison by rum - it was more a comment about how deadly it is. XD

Though if we need to stage a mutiny at some point, I am rather serious about taking on the cook's mate role, or at least have one of us in that position. Poisoning, even slightly, anyone not on our side the day before would be a good advantage. I should be able to produce enough good berries so that all those with us won't need to eat the poisoned fare.

And I already had the impression that the cook is a rather nasty piece of work! ;)

Well, short of some miracle, it looks like Jack will be the rigger. But you know what they say; it's not over 'til the fat man climbs!

They don't say that? Oh. Well, Mister Plugg does. He won't be satisfied until you're all perched up there, so get climbing Ostarian!

On a side note, please keep posts that are all-OOC to the discussion thread.

I think you misread the Con damage in the rum. Rum ADDICTION causes Con damage when you're suffering from withdrawl. The rules for drugs are very weird. I'll read up on them and figure out the details. I'm not 100% sure on that.

    HP 13/13 | AC 20 15 (FF 16 11 T 15) CMD 15 | Fort +2 Ref +6 Will +1 | Init +4 Percep +1 SM +1 | Adaptive Fortune (3/3) | Panache (4/4)

Oh no, nevermind, apparently it's just an atrociously poorly written mechanic. You might wanna let us avoid the damage if we make the fort save.

    HP 13/13 | AC 20 15 (FF 16 11 T 15) CMD 15 | Fort +2 Ref +6 Will +1 | Init +4 Percep +1 SM +1 | Adaptive Fortune (3/3) | Panache (4/4)

A lot of GMs apparently alter the rum ration portion, since it hardly makes sense to run it as written.

Hm, how about I run it like this then?
DC 10 Frt save to prevent 1d2 Con damage, and if you fail by 5 or more you become addicted?

    HP 13/13 | AC 20 15 (FF 16 11 T 15) CMD 15 | Fort +2 Ref +6 Will +1 | Init +4 Percep +1 SM +1 | Adaptive Fortune (3/3) | Panache (4/4)

That's better, but that still makes rum one of the most lethal poisons ever manufactured. I recommend that you simply replace the con damage with a con penalty. Assuming you don't handwave it altogether. It's kinda dumb.

I feel like the intent was for it to be like a sleight of hand minigame for the PCs each day. But it just doesn't make sense beyond that scope because pirates want to drink rum. I think I'm going to keep it like that though, since there are some drinking games that the side effects are kind of important for.

Edit: by 'keep it like that' I mean like my revised version.

    HP 13/13 | AC 20 15 (FF 16 11 T 15) CMD 15 | Fort +2 Ref +6 Will +1 | Init +4 Percep +1 SM +1 | Adaptive Fortune (3/3) | Panache (4/4)

Yeah. Your revised version is much better. Sadly Jack is gonna be atrocious at the fort saves. I need to pick up a sleight of hand rank. :/

It won't be a huge deal to shrug it off. Essentially, 50% of the time you fail it, you'll heal it off fully overnight. Not a bad deal, really. It's much nicer than the alternative to getting caught shirking your rum rations...

Which I also might need to houserule honestly. Even the minor punishments have the potential to kill some of you on the spot.

    HP 13/13 | AC 20 15 (FF 16 11 T 15) CMD 15 | Fort +2 Ref +6 Will +1 | Init +4 Percep +1 SM +1 | Adaptive Fortune (3/3) | Panache (4/4)

In short, some of the things in this AP weren't thought through very well. If it's something that wouldn't be fun, highly consider fixing it.
