I've got two done, both of which I like (though both still need some editing). I want to get at least one more done soon, and will probably try to have five total ... you know, just in case.
I think the next Wayfinder should be River Kingdom archetypes. They'll be inundated!
Then I want to try to do some monster practice.

I've done two, mainly because I've never written one before (I mainly only play PFS or home games with PFS-folks) and it seemed like a good time to practice!
One is more mechanically solid, though less tied to he River Kingdoms. The second is definitely thematically appropriate but mechanically less exciting.
Time for number three!

I have a concept for an archetype that has not, as near as I can tell (thanks to the awesome archetype list thread) been done before and seems to have a strong link to the River Kingdoms (yay Pathfinder wiki). I am seriously contemplating buying the River Kingdoms book to finalize it and then practice making a couple more. Not because I have strong faith that I'm making top 32 (I don't) but I figure putting in the effort and potentially sharing on the boards might encourage me to hang around more consistently and try again next year. :)

The trick though will be picking an archetype that someone else won't also try and submit. Quite a few River Kingdom archetypes will likely occur to many based on the content.
So far with design I have a long list of archetype names, followed by an extracted list of River Kingdom-based archetype names, followed by the top candidates flavor wise, and finally the last three or so with their first drafts to see what works and doesn't work flavor/marchanics-wise. Right now I'm having trouble making an archetype that will set it apart from others.

Agreed. While there are tons of options, I'd guess we'll see more instances of parallel design this time than usual. Then it'll come down to who executes it best.

I certainly expect that to be the case, but I'm also interested in seeing what concepts people come up with to avoid the stereotypical River Kingdoms classes(Bandit, raiders and outlaws - oh my!) There must be a few, certainly...

Yes and River Pirates! I also wonder how many Daggermark Assassins and Poisoner archetypes there will be...

I drafted two that I threw out after the twist was revealed. I've got one draft now that I've been tinkering with for about a week and a half, but I'm worried it's too derivative. I have fairly solid concepts for 2 or 3 more, and a couple pages of sketchier and/or less interesting concepts I'm keeping in case I think of something good to do with them. I... have kind of a lot of time on my hands >_>

Incidentally, I'm curious: do you guys start with a base class you want to modify, or start with a concept and then decide what class fits best? I've been doing the latter, for the most part, and I must admit that deciding on a base class has been one of the hardest parts of getting from the concept stage to the final product.

I also had to shelf my original idea since it wasn't appropriate to the River Kingdoms setting and start over. That's what you get for trying to be proactive.
It has taken me the better part of two days but I am confident that if I am lucky enough to make it past Round 1, I will be submitting a unique and setting-appropriate archetype.
Time to start generating some ideas for Round 3 and maybe put in a few more hours of voting time.

I did two before the twist was revealed, one of which is cool but certainly not superstar and the other of which is either superstar or completely loony.
Fortunatly I quickly found a inspiration in the River Kingdoms book and came up with something really cool. Unfortunatley I forgot to dropbox it before I left for vacation, so hopefully I can recreate it adequitely from memory.
I hope we get an archetype critique thread since so many people have drafted some. “What would you have entered” sort of thing for round 2. That would be a great chance to expand the benefits of the contest.

I read through some River Kingdoms stuff, came up with a handful of possible concepts and then worked backwards to decide what classes best suited those concepts, tending to favor classes that don't have umpteen archetypes crafted already.
I currently have one archetype first draft done that I like fairly well and two outlines that I am working on fleshing out.
I don't anticipate getting to use any of them. Recently, I had the revelation that this years Wondrous Item submission pretty much sucked, but I am using the opportunity to practice.

Six ideas so far, three that I've written the basic precepts for, one that's gotten the most brainstorming and is the furthest along.
I second Mr. Helt in that I've only got the 3.5. Campaign Setting and the wiki to do research. I've found a copy of the Inner Sea World Guide and have gotten the O.K. to stick my nose in it but the trouble is that the more I read, the more ideas I get. I need to stabilize and settle on what I'm doing.

Drew up two before the twist and shelved them after.
Drew up two more after the twist, loved one of them, tore it up and dumped it in the shredder, slept, still loved it, rewrote it, rewrote it, rewrote it, and will playtest it this week before rewriting it again and walking. The hell. Away.
I wanna write a book about this archetype. It's so face-smashingly obvious to me that I cannot believe it hasn't already been done, but it hasn't even made anyone's list of obvious River Kingdoms archetypes, so I have a tiny bit of hope. Kingmaker is my jam and the twist could not have made me happier.

One of my concepts deals with a river kingdom diety. I'm not sure if its going to be to focused in the river kingdoms to apeal to a wide audience? Any one have an opinion?
Mostly depends on how well you utilize your creativity. Freehold farmers are valued and respected. The following could be a hurdle or a boon as most people judging your arch type would be evaluating it based on the following to some degree or another:
Inhabitants
The people that make up the River Kingdoms are a diverse lot, the only thing most seem to have in common is that they are not the sort of people any civilised creature would want for neighbours. The River Kingdoms seem to attract a wide range of rogues and outcasts from deposed princes to mad sorcerers to religious firebrands. Though the people who inhabit this land come from a huge range of backgrounds they are all self reliant and hardy, those who are not do not last long in the River Kingdoms.
http://www.pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/River_Kingdoms
Religion
The nature of the River Kingdoms cynical inhabitants means that they are often ill disposed towards religion.
Those who are prone to worship normally embrace the chaotic nature of the River Kingdoms worshipping deities of thievery, war, and freedom.
The churches of Cayden Cailean, Desna, Calistria and Gorum are popular throughout the River Kingdoms, as well as the god of murder, thievery and secrets Norgorber.
Additionally, cults of two gods forbidden throughout Avistan and Garund have found the region to be a haven for their beliefs, the River Kingdoms remain one of the few places in the world where people can openly worship Hanspur and Gyronna.
In addition to these two unpopular deities the River Kingdoms seem to attract strange cults in the same way they attract strange people and as such a huge amount of small religions ranging from unorthodox to down right bizarre make their home in the River Kingdoms

GM_Solspiral, although you wouldn't be disqualified for just making a generic archetype that happens to fit in alright in the River Kingdoms (not Riverlands), the judges, and probably the voters, will look much more favorably upon your archetype if it has some flavor or tie-in specifically to somewhere in the River Kingdoms. Imagine that you're being asked to design an archetype to be published in a Paizo supplement on the River Kingdoms. Take your awesome but generic idea, do some reading, and find a way to give it setting-specific features or flavor. At least, that's what I would do. :)
