Statistically speaking, when does this become significant? I assume it is in the hundreds (depending on the number of entries).I am just curious, the sheer volume and the judge's final call offers enough balance IMHO.
As I recall, only 505 people had voted more than 100 times. So I suspect that the opinions of the frequent voters will be very, very significant to the outcome.

I doubt so as well, I hope I didn't imply you were.
My question is simply curiosity about the math. Is it actually as simple as 3 of 1000 with the method being used? Does the ranking of X over Z strengthen Z's standing? Are three votes after the cull stronger than three votes before?
I doubt the answer could be explained over the boards in a way that I (trig being my end training in math) could get it, so I will end a derail of the thread. :)

Didn't see it pre-culling, but I've seen it twice now post-culling!
I must say, it's interesting re-reading what you've written after you've been reading hundreds of other entries.
I was starting to get worried--I've voted hundreds of times post-cull, but hadn't seen my item. Until just now!
I was a Dedicated voter by the time the tags were added, and haven't had the time to make Marathon yet; no idea where I am between 501 and 999 votes.
I've seen my entry exactly twice, once before and once after the cull.

Just saw my item post-cull. I immediately attuned myself to it so that I can make it appear again by willing it to come up on the screen. Hopefully I attuned long enough, otherwise I'll be terribly embarrassed.
And almost immediately after seeing my item, I found an item that does almost the exact same thing mine does. I was previously quite excited that my item wasn't similar in effect to anything I had seen...now, not so much.

Still have not seen mine, though two of my friends have reported thinking they saw it. I wish I could have a bit more sincerity than their "Yeah, I think I saw that yesterday, maybe," but the only ways I can broaden my search involve disqualifying my item and therefore taking it out of the running. SO! I shall just have to be tormented instead.

I did the exact same thing, though in my case, (as with the not using italics with the spells), I actually removed it on purpose because it was not part of the original format rules. However, so far I haven't seen a single other entry that did it (with the exception of those that didn't bother to format at all), so I might have gotten myself in trouble by trying to follow the rules too exactly. :(
I also feel it is very unlikely I am still a Star Voter, but I don't are. Just seems odd.
I also want to point out, the other day I was very excited, finally seeing some new items and not recycling the ones I just absolutely refuse to vote for, but can't get something teamed with them that better. But, now I'm back to the same items over and over. :)

You're still a Star Voter in your profile DM Beckett! It takes a while...from 100-499 is 399 minutes at the minimum.

Ugh, is it just me or does The Culling impart mental images of a religious-esque nature? Something like in Revelations when 1/3 of the people will be taken into heaven.
Except kind of the opposite is happening here.

I'd seen it a handful of times pre-Cull, but post-Cull, I've been spending increasingly long periods of time simultaneously voting and quietly fretting that I'd been disqualified or eliminated or eaten by dire weasels.
Thankfully, I saw my item again tonight, so I can sleep soundly.

I've been saying winnow the field or narrow the field because to me cull sounds rather harsh. Culling seems to imply things are poor and unworthy, while narrowing the field sounds less critical.
Could be just me :)

Not quite sure what your question is. However, my point is basically that I don't like being negative like that.
A: "We've chosen the best N items and kept those. Congratulations to all who tried!"
B: "We've chose the worst N items and gotten rid of them. If one of them is yours, you clearly suck."

The rpg match up gods are fickle, hang in there and hope for the best, you literally get to see the competition - you should have an idea on how it ranks.
