Star Wars: Broken Empire. Looking for a good Imperial Soldier or 2 for a ongoing PBP

Recruitment

Star Wars: The Broken Empire
Okay, I have a team for this campaign already going strong so we decided to add another player. Unfortunately I don’t have the Saga edition rulebook. I have an older text. So that said, If you want to play a star wars campaign as an imperial but only have the Saga Rulebook, we can work around that. I will be taking one new recruit, two if I get enough apps. What I will be looking for is concept only. Since rules may be different, I only want to deal with ideas and characters, not mechanics. What your character goals are. Example: You want to be a jedi, a bounty hunter, or a smuggler etc. It can even simply be as how you want to play your character in combat or roleplay. If your selected, we will work on mechanics to make your idea work in game.

Story:

The death star is destroyed and the emperor is dead. The infernal and radical rebel alliance has caused chaos, disorder, and uncertainty throughout the galaxy and they do not have the strength to correct to the problem. The galaxy needs a single leader, not another failure of a republic. They need the emperor’s daughter Mirianna Palpetine. The empire is broken into numerous factions with various leaders. To you, for whatever reason you have, Miranna Palpetine is the rightful heir to the empire and you have chosen to support her. Her commander and second in command Rick Tavoes has recruited you as a special task force to go on a mission to find weaknesses in the Empress’s enemies and weapons to fight them. Lots of mission and exploring and interacting with the Star Wars universe. A lot of roleplay options.

Disclaimer:

The Univers
I am not using any material beyond the movies and a few games. Characters and story arcs from books are non existent. I will use most star wars jargon found on Wookiepedia but I reserve the right to make my own adjustments to the story and the universe as I see fit. Example, I will add new races to the universe, new characters, new tech, new force related or planetary rules and whole new set of story arcs.. Use knowledge check to gain my interpretation of events and other new intros I have added in the star wars universe. If I do at any point contradict myself with the information please let me know, I am not perfect and will correct such errors and reward those who point out legit problems.
The Rules
I have one of the older d20 rulebooks for Star Wars. Not the Saga edition. If you want to play I won’t let rules to get in the way. We can work around details of the Sage rules and the rules I have. I am very loose with the rules and don’t get to technical. The rules are simply to put boundaries in place to keep roleplay from getting out of hand. I let a lot go. Skills and combat will still use the rules. We are using the vitality system from the Deluxe edition of the star wars rulebook. I will go into detail on that with the person who gets into the game. Trust me, meshing the rules a bit is less of a headache than it sounds.

Application Requirements.
Level: 4
Race: Any you can find in “a” Star Wars d20 rulebook as long as you list the racial traits.
Class: Any class in “a” d20 Star Wars Rulebook as long as you tell me which rulebook it is in. List a brief description of what the class does. Jedi Are not available to select. Your character will have the option to become a jedi during the game but not to start. Similar to how Knight of the Old Republic I started.
Class Reasons/hopes: Give a brief reason for why your character is this class. Also, a brief description of what you hope to do with this character/class in game.
A brief character baskstory.
Skills: We will discuss this after you are selected.
Gear: This will be discussed after you have
Final Mechanics: We will work on once your selected.
Please Do not post any mechanical crunch, or any completed character Statblocks. We will go over that when I select you.

So Recap what I need from you.
Race: What are you
Class No Jedi, Explain why you are you class and what you hope to do with it.
Brief Backstory
Thank you. If you have any questions, please ask.

Sounds interesting, I'd be thrilled to join up! Spinning some ideas around in my head, but could I get an idea of what the other characters are, or vague specializations and that sort of thing? I'd hate to accidentally "clone" another character (Empire joke! Get it? Oh...)

We have a Mandelorian Warrior and a Miraluka Noble and a Chiss Scoundrel. We technically have another Miraluka scoundrel who is on leave for the time being.

Team could use another warrior but I am something of a merciful GM so I tend to make alternatives for non combatants so warriors aren't necessarily essential. I run a story rich game and try not to let things get bogged down with mechanical issues. There will be challenges, they just won't always be combat.

Hey Shanosuke,

Could you clarify something for me? Are you using Jedi as a catchall for force users? Its just that the characters are working for the Empire, so the assumption is that forceusers on that side would be Sith, or at least darksiders. Also, in the gameplay, you call the Empress a Jedi.

Also, what about Force Adepts?

Thanks.

I second some of Spaz's inquiries. Could one potentially play a dark-side, Empire-related force-user? For example, one idea that's running through my head is to play a former Dark Jedi elite clone, possibly one who served the Emperor. I know you said you focus on the movies and some games, not most of the expanded universe stuff, but it's a pretty universal idea that seems easy to work in. Let me know what you think of it!

To this faction of the empire, A line between Darkside and light side are blurry. Miranna is called a jedi out of ignorance by both her and those around her. Sith do categorize the darksiders. To be honest, she would be more of a grey jedi as she is not under the impulses of the darkside but she does use some of the power. When you recieve training in jedi, it will be up to you to choose your path and focus. Basically, You will have a choice of any Force using class dark or light. In the end, you will be judged more on what you do with the power as opposed to what powers you use.

Since there are no longer any jedi alive, the recognition of the darkside is limited to force loremasters. Thanks to the emperor, those are few and far between. Few working for the emperor truly understood his dark powers. Those who knew he had it weren't able to discern him from a jedi.

Again, this is where my adjustments to the universe and story come into play. So, Jedi for me is not a catchall, it is for most of the npc characters in the galaxy though because no one really knows the difference. Hopefully this answers your questions.

To play a force adept you would need a good story. More than likely your a primitive of Ossus, Dathmir, Malakai, or some other world with primitive force sensitive people. Doesn't need to be a long story just a good reason.

ok thanks Shanosuke. Makes sense :)
Now I've got to puzzle out an idea.
My last starwars game here fizzled out inexplicably so I'd love to participate in yours.

Idea(s) forthcoming !!!

Cool. It's been slow at times but I manage to keep it going. If nothing else, it won't die out without at least me saying so.

Well there goes my miraluka concept, hmm, Ill see if I can find my books, if so Ill post a concept, if not I might have to pass. We'll see. Was thinking of a minor force user () taking a couple feats rather then a devoted class) due to hiding my ability from others but I need to look at the stuff needed first.

If you need help building the concept, we can build you a character that meets your ideals using my rulebook. I'll post specs that fit what you want most. There are a good amount of force sensitive feats that can support your idea.

Okay, so I'm a little confused by your post on the Force-users, although it cleared up a lot!

The question pertinent to me: Is my idea of a force-capable clone warrior who served the Emperor legal or not? If it isn't, I'm coming up with other ideas as well.

Depends. Typically if he was force sensitive and trained, he would be with either Darth Segarus or Darth Taintus and would simply be a darksider. It is poosible for him to take force feats within reason as sort of an unexplained talent to later in game revealed to be a force power. It is possible for that to go unnoticed.

Any former imperial with training in the force would know secrets about Mirianna that the players shouldn't know. Therefore, no imperial trained force user would join her side.

If it is for the Force Adept class I would like more of a story behind it. You technically wouldn't be in the imperial army unless you can come up with a clever way on how you got trained without being discovered.

Remember, you guys will get the option for a jedi class soon just not to start. Gotta work for it.

Alright. In that case, I'll offer up a concept as a former Imperial guard. Maybe not as high up as the red-robe-wearing guys that guarded the Emperor, but skilled nonetheless. This would obviously make the character a clone, and I'd like it if he's one of the original Jango replicas, perhaps even a former ARC-Trooper trained by Fett himself. I'd prefer to go melee combat, but if the Mandalorian has that covered, ranged is fine as well and I can alter background to make it fit.

If you want anything more, let me know! I can even give you a writing sample for background, if you want; just give me some time.

Here's my favourite concept so far, Shanosuke, let me know what you think
Arana Niss

@Loup, Concept I have seen before and I must warn you. The path of melee is risky but a boon when you finally get a jedi level. The risk is that in this game, AC is often low and you need to rely on cover to avoid getting shot. Point two. More often than not you will be fighting foes over great distances. Sometimes your enemies may not be reached via melee Ex, shooting across a wide ravine. Again, the payoff is going into the jedi classes with a strong melee backing to them. Also, I will need to think hard on the Mandelorian concept. By all rights I pegged both Jango and Boba as mandelorians not humans, which in turn implies that every original clone was a mandelorian, that is why they are superior to the recruits filling their shoes in later years. Thus if I allowed you to be a clone, you'd be a mandelorian with all its traits. A remnant clone is a tantalizing background for your backstory though. We could make it work. I could see him working currently for a commander who joins up with Mirianna's faction because she is the rightful heir to the empire and you happen to be the commanders top soldier. Thus when Tavoes and Mirianna inspect the commanders resources and finds you with your top marks and such, they select you to join the Black ops team they've been forming. Any tweaking you want to do?

@Spazmodeus. A witch of Dathomir. Sounds like a member of the Singing Mountain clan to me. Back story could work. Gonna have to figure out what one of Mirianna's ships was doing near Dathomir, Darth Taintus currently conrtols that system. He is none too gentle with the witches of Dathomir and is known as a false emperor. Maybe you heard of Mirianna and decided to seek her out since Taintus is more interested in using you all as slaves. Mirianna is known as the true emperor in many circles. I will work on my end to find how you got to one of Mirianna's officers, but I like the character concept so far, very deep and rich development possibilities. Polish it a bit and as questions and I will keep working on my end to fill in the holes in your backstory. If you get any further ideas, put them to me.

Important The Former Emperor's evil would not be common knowledge. You yourself are not required to be evil to join the empire. There may be points where you will fight against the rebels and kill them in bulk but it won't define your character. Your motives should be in the belief that The empress will make the galaxy right by your standards. Most of you will be unaware of the destruction of Alderaan and well as the slaughter of countless communities, those were carried out by the emperor's darkest agents and would have joined Darth Taintus, or Seth Sagarus. Not Mirianna. They would know that even though she can be hard and cruel sometimes, she is doing it for the betterment of the galaxy, not herself. This is why she is balancing the line of good and evil, Imperials say she's to soft or naive, rebels say she is misguided or uninformed. A large number of people who believe in supreme order follow her. Order is what she stands for. Order at "Acceptable" costs
She is the Definition of Lawful neutral. Wanting to do good but willing to get her hands dirty with necessary evils.

Two good ideas so far, I won't be ending recruitment until I have two ideas I decide to go with. I will be taking two people.

Ok. Thoughts whirling....much to consider :)

Shanosuke,

Made alterations to the background that fits better with your information.

Lantern Lodge

I am thinking of being an armed escort/merchent, I normally escort cargos or important people from place to place in my ship. A recent attack put my ship out of commission for awhile. I had done some work for a client before who happens to be Mirianna or one of her people, I took a recent job with them to gain the cash I need to repair my ship with a few upgrades. (Which would lead to me being on the team, hopefully)

I will use a few force feats, mostly my family has always had moderate force ability having come from some Dathomiir witch emmigrants long ago, but the family kept it a secret so the jedi wouldn't take any of the children, and this tradition of secrecy kept them unseen during the empire and now, though did result in a unique force tradition that show it's dathomir heritage but is mostly unique.

So my class would be noble, smuggler, or soldier using pair of pistols, a sniper rifle, a blade, and usually light armor (depending on cash I might have heavy armor for special occasions). Skills will include pilot, combat, force, face, with a smattering of other things.

Okay, switch the melee concept to a more common idea: CQC. The guy's really skilled in ranged combat, especially when it's within range of a rifle or pistol, and he's not afraid to get up close and personal when the situation arises. If you feel Mandalorian better captures being a first-gen clone, that's fine: he can do that.

Do you want a bigger, more complex backstory or writing sample? If not, I'll just come up with a designation code and nickname.

Alright, I'm pretty sure I want Arana Niss.

As far as Loup and DarkLight I have some ideas for each of you.

@Loup. I like the concept of the surviving veteran clone. A little work on the backstory and I think I can add you to the Broken Empire campaign to. Fire support is one of those things the team will need.

@Darklight. I like your concept. And actually I think it would work better in my other Star Wars Campaign: The Conquest of the Underworld. That team is a team of warriors and could actually use a Noble or Scoundrel class character. Your backstory also fits it better too. If you are interested I could add you if you don't mind working for a neutral faction as opposed to either the Empire or Rebellion. What do you say?

So, My decision is this:
Spazmodeus and Loup, Report in to the Broken Empire Discussion thread and introduce yourself to the party. We'll work on your final builds there. You can find it under my profile in campaigns.

As For DarkLight, if you want to join Zedora the Hutt in his war against the entire criminal underworld in the galaxy. Head to My profile and go It is a shadow war that few people will see up front. Your character just fits this story better than being an imperial.

HAHA great! Thanks Shanosuke...see you in the discussion threat :)

Lantern Lodge

I'll join up! I'll head over there and take a look when I get home. Want me to post a refined BG and name/alias in the discussion or recruitment thread?
