Backstory:

Arana Niss grew up on the backwater world of Dathomir, learning from the witches the mysteries of the Force, dictated by
the stricture of the Book of Law. But Arana was always restless, hearing tales of the worlds beyond her own far away in the darkness
between the stars. Restless yes, but also ambitious, always treading the fine line between the Book of Law and Gethzerion's Book of Shadow.
Not an evil woman, nonetheless on a couple of occasions Arana used her abilites to cause harm to another. This of course brought censure
down upon her, deservedly, causing even more dissatisfaction to arise in her mind. Sometime after this, outsiders came to the world from
a great Empire, under a man of great power..a Darth Taintus. Soldiers and force users attacked and destroyed villages all over Dathomir, causing
almost instant capitulation. Dismayed at her people's failure to combat the invasion, Arana railed against the traditions that stratified her society,
causing fatal separation and discord. Furious at her people's failings, Arana sought to educate herself in the knowledge of her enemy.
Successeds stealing small pieces of technology, led her to periodic access to the Galactic Net, where she discovered that Darth Taintus was a pretender, the
true Empire lay beyond;the situation was not as clear cut as Darth Taintus would have her society belive! Taking the
path of guerilla fighter, Arana hoped that those in the true Empire would notice her own private war against the invaders.
As her familiarity with the technology of the empire grew, she began to perpertate acts of sabotage where possible. Once spoiling the food supplies of an infantry patrol, then scrambling the internal network of an
observation post. Her most egrarious act was secreting a juryrigged bomb of three thermal detonator onto a supply shuttle. Watching the vessel explode half
way to space made her smile for the first time in months.

Growing bolder with her successes, Arana was attempting to sabotage the fusion generator of a guard post when she was discovered. She managed to eliminate
a number of the soldiers but eventually thier superior numbers subdued her. She awoke in a small cell and was discomfited to discover she had difficulty
accessing her force powers; her perceptions were a little foggy, perhaps her captors had drugger her. Sometime passed until an officer came to her cell
"Lord Taintus is intrigued by your success against his troops, we're enroute to his current location. Then you will have the privilege of meeting
his Lordship in person"
Placing a tray of food on a shelf, the man left before Arana could say or do anything.

Some hours later, the ship lurched and shook, Arana could hear explosions from deeper in the ship. Her guards hurried off, leaving the cell block abandoned. Eventually, a number of soldiers in a different uniform entered the cell block , ignoring her, began checking
the cell block computers. One of the soldiers looked up at her and said "You there, are tyou Anara Niss?". A nod was all she would grant the man. A quick scan with his datapad and the soldiers stood up and left the cell block. Arana sat down to wait.

Having waited a number of hours, the soldier returned , marched up to her cell and held out his hand. In it a holoprojector, which flickered to life "Arana Niss?" the man asked. "The one and only" she said in response. "Well then, I'm Commander Tavoes, and I have a proposition for you...I release you from your prison, equip and train you and you join a special team I've created to cause trouble for Darth Taintus and any other enemies of the Empress. Your
activites on Dathomir were well documented. Very impressive. Join us and we'll continue to strike against Taintus together."

"Nice speech...I want training in your technology...it facinates me. I'm also fascinated in killing Darth Taintus for what he's done to my planet. If you can give me the opportunity to do both, we have reached an agreement, Commander."

"Done and well....you may have that opportunity someday" Tavoes says with a smile. "Captain, see to it that Arana Niss is suitably accomodated during
her orientation into our organization, training and equipment provided as we discussed earlier."
The soldier snaps to attention, "Consider it done, sir"

The holoemitter goes dark and the captain accesses the control panel of Arana's cell. The barred door rises on a gust of air "Please come with me, mistress,
our transport awaits. I believe you will have a few weeks to train and acclimatize yourself before you must depart...to Chiss I believe."

Appearance:

Arana Niss is an attractive, fairly tall slender woman with straight black hair down to her shoulders. Dressed in seeming military hand-me-downs, trooper's pants, an officers recreational shirt, ship technicians vest ; she seems completely comfortable in her motley attire.

Personality:

Having her planets subjugated by Darth Taintus has not diminished Arana Niss' arrogance or self confidence. Caught between two worlds, the primitive backwardness of Dathomir and the galaxy spanning Empire, Arana embraces all the novelty and surprises that await her. On a personal level, she values competence over friendliness, knowledge over sentimentality.
