Freedom16 wrote:I see no difference between a robot with a beam attack then a dragon with a breath weapon except the dragons gonna fly and lay waste to your settlement. That one is easy to explain. Dragon's don't need their joints to be oiled nor do they need their 9 volts replaced every so often. Robots don't need to be fed cattle nor do they need to sleep on beds made of vast hords of treasure. I hope this helps you see the difference. ;-)
On a more serious note: While I am new to Pathfinder and am still exploring the earlier works, I welcome any and all new options presented to me. I then select those I want to use and ignore those I don't. But I would always rather have more options then less.
I said this based on power level and abilities but your right, a robot needs constant care while a dragon will go about burning the world and looting stuff while a automaton will go about harvest resources and fighting. And yes indeed good sir, the more options the better, and its up to the DM to select what they deem appropriate.
Numerian |
Well, I've wanted Numeria since it was first published. My version had the technology camouflaged. The pc's all considered it weird magic, not just the local barbarians. I hope there won't be machine guns, lasers are fine as long as they don't appear a lot different than for example a wand of magic missiles.

Yeah, put me down for a Distant Worlds hardcover, as well as the Numeria 64-pg + AP idea.
Verces
Maybe for the Numeria AP, one (or more) of the books could involve Verces agents (competitors for the PCs) traveling to Numeria to investigate what has woken up in the Silver Mount (and if it's lootable)? That'd give an excuse to include a Verces write-up, like the Triaxus write-up coming in Reign of Winter.
"Ariel, Ookla, RIDE!"
Edit: And if there is an Numeria AP, Brigh seems perfect for a deity write-up. (FINALLY? Pwease?)

Ha!

Definitely. Brigh is one of my two favorite Golarion gods (along with Sivanah) and isn't even in the 'big 20!'
I had ideas for Dark Roads and Golden Hells that didn't get used, about a section of the clockwork plane that derived mechanical energy from giant horizontal gear-shaped waterwheels (large enough and slow moving enough that individual cogs were used as quays for docking ships visiting the clockwork goddess' domain) powered by the river Styx that could rock for Brigh.

Wow Set that sounds darn cool!
And I ordered my first actual physical item from the Paizo store. Distant Worlds. Pretty much due to Mikaze's enthusiasm. I mean, I already wanted it, but after Mikaze totally otaku'd it I had to get it. The Secrets of the Shattered Mount sounds cool too...

I can't wait for the Annihilator (mecha scorpion) stats in the Inner Sea Bestiary. My players are going to be in for a huge surprise when they dredge one up from the harbor.
Don't you mean when the Annihilator dredges itself up from the harbor?

I'd vote book. Its too close to Kingmaker to do a whole AP. I'd want to use the book to expand, or if you insist on an AP write it as a psuedosequal to Kingmaker one of the two.
I assume you mean that Numeria is geographically close to he River Kingdoms? I don't see how that would be a limitation on an adventure path though. There's been loads in Varisia - and though geographically close to each other Numeria and the River Kingdoms are so very wildly different that I don't see how a Numeria AP and Kingmaker would have anything in common.

There are people who hotly debate whether halflings should always pay homage to their inspiration or be allowed to wear Nike's. Giving the barbarian a technicolor laser sword for six months? Sounds like a big risk for a niche audience within a niche hobby to do a whole AP...
But I agree with nightflier above. If you're going to do it, DO IT RIGHT! A campaign book, AP and at least one module.

So many things they could reference from 70's and 80's cartoons. Pirates of Black Water, Visionaries, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors (magic rings etc), Golden Lance, He-Man/She-Ra, Thundercats, Blackstar, Hurculoids, Thundar(natch), TMNT, Vytor, among so many others.

Weren't there some high-tech stuff in the Gummi Bears too?

As a GM/DM/Whatever you wish to call it, I have always enjoyed having the blank places on the Golarion Map filled in, even if I wasn't thrilled at the content. However, Numeria is one of those places that has had frustratingly little material. I have always wanted to know how things in Numeria, particularly the items, organizations, and creatures all worked. The thing is that I hope that, eventually, all the blank places in the Inner Sea Map (And possibly beyond) become filled by the company that has done such a good job with the setting already. Plus, as a DM or GM you always have one very powerful resource available for not adding in any material you don' want: The word NO.

Hello again Mikaze, Funny how I bump into you every couple of threads.
I'd love to get a good look at Numeria. For at least a dozen reasons.
However most of them come down to "I've got this idea I've been planning that works best if I use stuff from Numeria in it." So I can probably roll that into "Loot".
And some other reasons come a little more involved. Such as getting characters that don't necessarily have to be wizards to make something like a Construct, or a weapon that is better than standard fare. And considering that I often end up with both setting and campaign ideas that involve a limiting of magic and a flourishing of technology, anything on that front is appreciated.
Also, Numeria sounds like a fun place. If a Barbarian can take over the place, and people are running around with what is essentially a "Fuel sniffing" habit I presume, and others have dozens of freaking light-sabers and other cyber swords...
I'm sure the appropriate stock phrase is "Shut up and take my money!"

Oh hells yeah people! We got game! Force-fields, plasma cannons, laser rifles, chain-guns, rocket launchers, gear-men, androids, and this lovely, lovely line. "While the Technic League has developed magical solutions to some of these requirements, actual details on creating robots are beyond the scope of this book." Emphasis added.

Woah...
Like... Woah...
I may not have to go with wizard for the group mechanic if the Numeria book turns out to have some details on non wizards doing... exactly what that implies.
I mean, for one setting I'm working on, only a few can use magic, while the rest... well... They would be using technology if the rules actually let them make it without a wizard present.
Yeah. You can Bet I'm sore from having to find a loophole to that. The closest I got was using a magic item as a conduit for spell-casting classes like wizards.
...which makes literately zero sense in the rules we currently have. And goes against at least half of what I have already got established.
I NEED THAT BOOK MORE THAN EVER NOW!

Simple answer...YES!
Complex answer, I think you could start with a new format 64 page adventure. It could be a perfect intro to the region with just the right mix of tech crunch and fluff story.
Long Range answer: I would love some sort of great mystery to be attached to Numeria. Perhaps it could revolve around why the tech for the most part does not spread out of Numeria. Perhaps there is a massive "wireless" power source inside Silvermount and the most powerful tech simply can't be used more than a certain distance away.
Mike Franke |
OR perhaps what the gearsmen are really thinking/up to or ... there really are so many juicy possibilities with Numeria.
Really the tech is the least of it for me. Make it new or make it analogous to magic like lasers that are really just scorching rays but Numeria is a land full of possibilities and that is what interests me.

What exactly is the Iron Gods?
Its a title, or a metaphor perhaps. I don't believe actual gods made of iron are present, rather its a metaphor for the melange of science and sorcery.
Just like Wrath of the Righteous is about a war against demons and not actually about being pissed off while feeling righteously indignant.

I stand corrected.
Justin Franklin reports from Gencon, "Iron Gods are creatures waking up in Numeria and granting spells."
Things were interesting before, but this just jumped up to a new level of crazy.
Holy sheet.
TOZ, I know you have a wonderful wife but ... can I haz ur babies?
Ozzy would love to lick your face.
