Needle exchanges are fairly plentiful and usually accompanied by education materials and 'where to get help' type guides. Similarly they tend to hand out condoms etc at the same places. Unfortunately there is often a connection between the two issues.
The hope is to reduce the number of trasnmissible diseases, at the end of the day if you take away the good samaritanism of the idea, on a practical level it saves a lot of money for the Govt in a country with taxpayer funded medicare. Treating Hep, AIDS, and a range of STI's and other 'fabulous' ailments is much more expensive than the odd $1 syringe and a few rubber johnnies they bought in bulk.

Working with (and for) drug addicts is a chore here in Germany, too. Every time a new project is founded, streetworkers have to fight for a possibility to offer clean needles or even dry clean rooms, because if drugs are used there, the streetworkers could be dragged to court for involvement in drug trafficing (nope, not a joke, it happenes although as far as I know none was ever convicted).
It is most of the tim one f..... up federal state that blocks any regulation (or deregulation) that would make life for the streetworkers (and for the addicts as well) easier (rooms for drug rooms, free fixing tools, medical and juristical counceling etc...). I know several streetworkers in Münster, Cologne and Dortmund who are at the brink of giving it up, because every time they thought they won a fight against windmills in their federal state, the gouvermen of that one particular federal state makes move towards federal law to abolish the new law/regulation...
How do you feel about eating veal and whalers?;)
Mmmm, veal is good. Never been a big fan of Norwegian or Japanese food, so I avoid whalers.

I do eat neither veal, nor lamb nor piglet younger than 1 year, I am not in any danger to become a vegetarian, but I don't eat babys...I wouldn't eat a whaler either, that meat is too seasoned ;-)

Yeh - even the part of the site that does the paizo rulebook was down. That never goes down when the messageboards are down.

I think the key here was the site was gone - not just down.

Heh - I feel you there Tark... though in the twenty odd that I've voted on I've only found 1 item that was even close to being interesting enough.
The rest are a choice between crap and crapper... and I end up feeling dirty for somehow endorsing the lesser bad by voting for it over the bigger bad.
Eh, just hope that it's at least someone you liked that you voted for. I've seen one or two gems I'll probably end up yoinking for personal ingame use even if they aren't top 32.
yeah, i'm not liking the new voting format. Have the judges narrowed it down at all? I'd rather pick from the pared down offering than feel pressure to pick the lesser of 2 evils. If I don't like either, i'm not voting for either...
There isn't any paring whatsoever - you get a random selection of two from the thousands of entries.
But with the voting system, you're only indicating relative preference, not absolute. So you're only saying that of the two shown - one is better; the vote doesn't count outside of that comparison.
Voting for neither is still an option though if you want to abstain unless you've a strong preference.

In roughly twelve hours I will willingly subject myself to an eight hour period of physical exertion, sleep deprivation and general sanity slippage.... that is to say I'm flying down to Australia with two kids on a red eye. I shall be doing the christmas thing, familial visitation thing and even attending a ten year University re-union... which should be interesting to say the least.
That will mean that I shall not be my usual self when it comes to internet connectivity and PbP response. I should still get online here and there, but it's unlikely to be every day - and even when I do time will be short so you will have to endure a lesser amount of my usual sesquipedalian loquaciousness. If at any time you feel I'm holding things up, feel free to DMPC.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Krazy Kwanzaa or even Positive Emotion Non-Religious Holiday Vacation Day... depending upon your own predisposed proclivities. I look forward to further electronically shared adventures in the post-Mayan calendar New Year.

Well the general quietness on the boards was rather fruitful, and I have now sent off my last binch of assignments for my TESOL accreditation.
Now to have a comple of days finishing my other study and the last two assignment portions - at least they are only two more short papers of about 4k words each.

Well, since you probably only use 100-200 words, just list them with an index of where they are supposed to go in your papers. That way you can really shorten the paper.
Still living on the beach, still fairly broke (though not living off of 200 baht a day anymore, so I can afford internet hopefully a bit more regularly). I've been looking for a restaurant with free wifi so I can use my computer, and I found one on a beach nearby that's about a half hour walk away. I'll hopefully be back soon with that, but it seems like this showdown with Alon is taking precedence anyway and I'm not slowing anyone down by disappearing for a bit :)
@ Kirk - did you notice that DM Zyren rolled intitiative for Kirk in that encounter? Seems like you could get involved...and we probably will need your help ^_^
