Axe Musket Enhancement

Gunslinger Discussion: Round 2

Scarab Sages

So with the Gunslinger updated with new weapons, I got to thinking about how enhancements work on the gun itself.

This came about when I thought I would make my current Gunslinger a cross-class with a Ranger, and give him an Axe Musket. Bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing with that much range/power.

This is were my question comes into play. If I were to give my Axe Musket the 'flaming' quality, would this also apply to the ammo? For bows and crossbows the Core Rulebook says it bestows the 'flaming' quality to the ammo... But guns are so unique I wasn't sure about anything.

I ran into a similar problem in 3.5 when adding a bayonet to a crossbow. (Though the bayonet was removable, and the axe part of the Axe Musket is not) I wasn't sure if the bayonet got the 'flaming' quality.

I'm sure any properties you put on the weapon apply to both shooting and axing--provided it is legal of course (a ranged property won't help you if you are axing someone in melee, for example).

That isn't clearly stated in playtest document.

This musket eatures an axe blade at the top of its barrel. It can also be used as a battleaxe. If this firearm gains the broken condition because of a misfire, it suffers from that condition both when used as a gun and

when used as a battleaxe.

I guess you could interpret the bit about the broken condition to mean that the gun bit and the axe bit are linked in a special way so that they would both be affected by the same weapon enchantment.

I however would just say that this is the blur haired stepchildren of the double weapon family, so you would need to enchant both "ends" separate.

I assume it's a double weapon. Having a plus +1 ranged weapon and a +1 melée weapon for the cost of 1 item with a duel purpose would be op.

Overpowered? I certainly don't think so.

ok so you think that having a ranged weapon that can be used for melee lets say a +1 flaming burst thats 18k gold..

having a melee weapon costing 18k
and a ranged weapon costing 18k
thats 36k

i think the weapon designed to 2 things
A: time of swapping (changing from melee to ranged)
B: and not provoving AoO (by changing)

alot of gunslinger builds i seen dont have quickdraw
and even with quick draw, alot of people need to drop the item on the ground and draw the other.

making it so we never need to swap items

that concept is amazing
and a weapon that costs 18k buts true value is worth 36k

so still not over powered?

Considering the other limitations of firearms, nope. Not at all.

I'd treat it as a double weapon, Im sure what's what the dev's are going to say too. Otherwise the axe musket is significantly better than just a musket or just an axe.
