If I were a kid right now and I broke my arm, I would ask the doctor if they could make the cast look like Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet.

Nekkidness could make it awkward.

"A nice cold drink" and "An ice cold drink" are the same sentence, just with the space in a slightly different location.

Sometimes giving someone a second chance is like giving them a second bullet because the first one missed you.

Maybe it's one of those situations where a professional gets all weird because they're so into their profession that weird stuff appeals to them. Like Curb Your Enthusiasm, written by and featuring whatshisname, that 'comedian's comedian.' Or like after-hours radio, where the disc jocks start playing 'off-beat' s*%! because they're sick of the top 40.

With sensible ideas about the English language.

You don't specify exactly what you want, you don't get it.

That's what I said, but for some reason most people don't appreciate the idea of sensible English. Luckily, my wife is one of them. :)

Well, she humors me at least.

I love it when people come in, say they have a reservation, and then argue when I can't find it in the computer. Then they finally pull out their phone to find the reservation and prove to me that I'm wrong and/or an idiot, only to see that their reservation is at some other hotel. Of course, I would like it more if they just went to the right hotel to begin with, but at least this way I don't have to deal with them anymore.

Question for CY, or anybody else for that matter.

Can you recommend a dandelion killer? I don't mind dandelions in general, I actually think a few of them scattered through the yard looks nice, but two spots in my yard are being taken over by them and I'd like to at least thin them out a bit. Thanks.

Cut them and make soup of them. Supposedly dandelions are edible and quite nutritious.

Er... in my experience, people who become "professional" wedding planners are paid to go ludicrously over-the-top.

The only weddings I've really enjoyed were the ones where the brides (or grooms) planned the weddings themselves.

Planners ruin everything...

I don't drink so I might be out of the loop on this, but is this something that's just not considered acceptable?

Cause, I mean, I had a blue soda last night and I have a 3-liter of purple ginger ale in the fridge, so it's clearly something that works in the bottled carbonated drink business, but I'm not sure how well that transfers over to the alcohol realm.

It looked like a Jones Soda.

The wedding was formal attire, but the table centerpieces were two-foot-high novelty champagne flutes filled with bright blue saltwater taffy. On each centerpiece, the table number was encrusted in rhinestones.
The color of the champagne matched the taffy.

To make things even more surreal, the bride's ex husband was the fourth groomsman from the right.

And the DJ kept hopping between decades and musical genres in a way that reminded me of Robin Williams at the height of his cocaine addiction... a Frank Sinatra tune followed by "Islands in the Stream" followed by the JAWS theme followed by Cindy Lauper followed by Etta James followed by The Proclaimers. During "500 Miles", I was so bored I started doing my best air drum solo at the table with a couple of coffee spoons until I caught the bride's deaf daughter staring at me like I was utterly deranged, so I stopped. It's a good song, but you can't dance to it.

Please tell me they just embraced it and played this.

Yep. Late September/early October is typically when we get "Indian Summer" -- a 1-2 week period where the temperature breaks 80 or even *gasp* 90.

Since none of us have insulated housing nor air conditioning, we whine about it incessantly for the other 50 weeks of beautiful weather.

You're coming in early August, of course, so my weather report is: "Anywhere from foggy with highs in the 50s to a heat wave with highs in the 90s. Good luck! But at least there won't be any rain!"

By that time Wisconsin is usually a few weeks into the hot and humidity so it should be a great time to get a break from all the f!$@ing mosquitoes and ticks.

Funny part about it is, I decided to comparison shop between Madison and Berkeley and it's way more expensive staying here then there.

I guess we're the ones with the hyper inflated self worth. :-)

That... boggles my mind...

On the one hand, Berkeley is home to a bunch of out-of-town potential students so they probably want to make the place seem affordable. On the other hands, with rents at $3000/month for a 1-bedroom apartment, any hotel or motel charging under $100/night could well find itself the permanent residence of a college student or three...

Well it's 166 a night at the Berkeley Marina Hilton versus 188 a night at the Monona Terrace Hilton.

That honestly doesn't completely surprise me from a hotel/restaurant perspective.

No, permanent living is definitely going to be significantly higher anywhere in the Bay Area than 99.6% of the Midwest, but Madison and a stretch of land to the north of Madison...known as Door County or The Wisconsin Dells...is considered to be a *very* expensive place to visit. Rather nice dinner and a hotel night in Madison or Door County is going to be more expensive than the comparable dinner and hotel in Chicago.

A quick Google search brought up Knights Inn Berkeley, $84/night which comes out to roughly $2520/month (before tax). Mind that this is also covering utilities, trash, and even some food thanks to free continental breakfast. 2-star hotel so nothing fancy, and no mention of free wi-fi so you'll probably need to do something about arranging for internet access, but if you're going to go the "live out of a hotel" route, this seems to be your best bet.

There were a couple with lower prices (including one as low as $52/night!), but all had notably worse review scores so I ignored them.

Yeah, that particular Knights Inn has been the target of repeated prostitution stings over the last couple of years.

Where we lived in Seattle was a quiet neighborhood, but if you went a couple of blocks away you hit the section of Aurora Ave where Cops liked to film prostitution stings.

I'm pretty sure there's a couple of shots of us walking past to the store or Ivar's right past there.

Can you spray them with vinegar and then leave a cinderblock or large stepping/path slab over the roots (to block the sunlight)? That's supposed to work.

This won't end well...

I fully expect the cinderblock soon to be cracked in half with dandelion twice its previous size and being like "B**ch, please!"

Seriously, last year I was spraying weeds growing in the cracks of the airstrip with a defoliant. It didn't do much. I think that some of those were dandelions.

That's it. You just strut about, pumping your arms rhythmically, pretending you're Bonnie Prince Billy invading Lancashire.

Today I went to ALL (DE)'s daughter's 7th birthday party. I played guitar for 'pass the parcel' and accompanied ALL (DE)'s singing, which is something I love to do. I also met her Mum. It was pretty good, overall.
