NobodysHome wrote: It's this constant, "We're saving YOUR city, so YOU should be giving US all the free stuff we ask for!"
Not asking for free stuff when you're saving the kingdom is one of those metagame things you kind of have to accept as a player. "Why don't you save your kingdom yourself?" is another one.
So just extreme frustration with my players for abandoning these two fundamental tenets.
As I've posted on other threads, if the PCs' attitudes are, "Why should WE do that when there are NPCs perfectly capable of taking care of it for us?", then it's time to play, "Shopkeeper: The Roleplaying Game".
Yeah, that's just not cool. And this is your adult group right? Since the "kid group" is playing SS. You'd think adults would know better.

LOL. My kids' group is rapidly becoming my Most Fun Group (MFG).
Now if I could only figure out a way to stop killing the poor little blighters...
EDIT: And yes, this is my "problem" adult group -- the one with the guy who's already ended THREE campaigns due to his bad behavior. And yep... he's the main proponent of, "We want free stuff!"
I had him well in check (for once), but now that others have started echoing him it's MUCH harder... Easy to shut up one annoying guy. Much harder to stifle 3-4 at your table of 6.

Did you tell them to stop.
It's too bad most adults lose the ability to see reason as they get older.
Oh! Tell them this.

I hate Minecraft so much! So very, very, very much!!!

Rosita the Riveter wrote: I have aquired bamboo steamer. Now what do I do with it, and how do I use it? Ooh, I used to have one of those. I really liked it, but it was a victim of the great culling two years ago when I got rid of all the now unsafe things when I developed the wheat allergy. I used to use the bamboo steamer to make gyoza so...yeah, anyways....
You'll need a pan that's slightly bigger than the steamer that you can put water in. Put water in it, heat it up, put the steamer in it, and cook your stuff. Line the bottom of the tray with cabbage leaves or something similar if you're making stuff that can slip through the cracks. Otherwise just use it to steam veggies or dumplings or tamales or whatever really. It's a very versatile tool. But if anything gets on the steamer wipe it off right away or you'll never get it off. Do not let it sit for later. (Voice of experience there...I had bits of permanently imbedded dumpling on mine.....they'd been washed well, but could not be removed without breaking the steamer. Don't repeat my mistakes, find new ones of your own! :P)

Rosita the Riveter wrote: I have aquired bamboo steamer. Now what do I do with it, and how do I use it? Everything Lynora said, plus I make a mean-but-simple steamed salmon by putting a little sake in the water, then steaming for 8-10 minutes. Drab, but the salmon comes out incredibly tender and moist, and then you can top it off with... whatever to give it some zing.
I use that special wax paper that doesn't melt in the heat in lieu of cabbage leaves. Grr... I forget its name, but cheap "normal" wax paper can have the wax melt. Unfun!

I bought a pack of wax paper steamer liners when I bought the steamer. They are advertised specifically for keeping food off of your steamer, so I presume they won't melt.
Tamales might be the first dish I cook. The Trader Joe's frozen tamales I like list steaming as a cookig option, and I have some. Or I could cook chicken quarters. I have some that need using...

All I use my steamer for is rice and veggies. It is awesome at making those. Oh and a tip from Aranna; Use good quality spring water for steaming it really does lend its flavor to the food. And by the same token avoid using city tap water at all costs... ewwww.

Heimdall doesn't care. Heimdall's part of the polar bear club. His Gjallerhorn will be staying right there.

I would avoid steaming chicken or any other non-fish meat.
I find that steaming meat leeches it of its flavor, and lends fowl a chewy texture.
Chewy, flavorless chicken is not a good thing.
I'm *almost* with Aranna and Lynora here: The steamer is awesome for veggies, dumplings (OMG what it does for dumplings), and fish.
There are other, more complex dishes that only truly shine in a steamer (Chez Souvan in Santa Clara does an incredible banana-leaf wrapped salmon loaf).
But for plain old meat or tamales, I'd stick to a plain old oven. The extra humidity does such dishes no favors.
