I'm Quaker:-)

Everyone assumes its the same as Amish, its not.
However the fact that when i was a kid we spent a number of years living in the middle of an Amish community only confuses the matter.
There was one other non Amish family within 5 miles with a car (our TV was broken, so we didn't have a TV)

Hey! I resent that! I, for one, know you guys are nothing like the Amish! (You have oatmeal in stores, after all*...)

* :
I joke. The Quakers are actually a very interesting religious movement that sprang up from, if I recall, the Wesleyans er (much earlier than that), Anglicans (well, they weren't the Anglicans over there, but you know what I mean). My understanding of Quaker philosophy is that all are equal - i.e. that there is no singular "Pastor" above the other believers - and that anyone may receive a Word of God to speak to the People (the "Friends"? Please correct any errors I've got) at any time during service. Very much so similar (in some ways) to the slightly more modern spiritualist or anointed-type Pentecostal-like movements with unplanned worship, though the Quakers were relatively low-key and meditative instead. Also, wasn't "Quaker" a kind of punitive or derogatory title because of the "Quaking" the Friends did during their communion? The Amish were a group descended from the Dutch or Swiss, if I recall. They get progressively more anti-tech from there... aaaaaaaaaaand that's what I remember about the Amish. It's been a looooooooong time, however, so I could be getting any or all of that not only iffy but incorrect. Feel free to correct me!

The players hated them because the voice was so incredibly annoying. "Murderously pathetic" I think was the term used.

I have never come across the phrase 'Man Squee' before Tacticslion mentioned it in the 'What Pathfinder memes etc etc' thread.

Is this the right thread for all those, Kajehase? I mean, it's definitely cool to know, but I follow that other thread for a reason, and I kinda figured others did, too. They are missing your knowledge!

EDIT: Realized how this came out, and I wish to clarify: ^ this is not me suggesting you don't post here. This is me suggesting you also post this stuff in the "Did you know?" thread, as it's a bunch of stuff I didn't know!

I see these more as colourful anecdotes than Did You know fodder. There may be a few titbits for that too, though.

Or I could get to the part where they start dealing with the collaborators and all the quotes would just be grim and/or depressing.

So Man Squee is what?
jackin' it?
sounds icky whatever it is:)

At the risk of sour persimmons, was I the only one not inspired by the Monarch of Monsters entries to choose from this year?

Hey, one of them was actually quite nice!

The rest of was... Uh. They weren't bad, but they seemed... Bland? Sparkless?

I am used to not being picked into top five of anything, but if I am not in the finale I would like to lose to awesome competitors, not to "not bad".

I'm so broke I didn't pay attention.

Squee. Note the second definition.

"Man-squee" is like the second definition, but lacking the 14-year-old-girl part (so basically, just several octaves lower). :)

EDIT: So, some history, I guess, if you all care.

It should be noted that I believe the term "man-squee" is original to me. As far as I know, I came up with it while talking to my wife about something. I nerded out and went "Squee~!" (only I actually said the word "squee" out-loud, in part to create humorous effect, and in part because I turn sound effects into onomatopoeias sometimes).

Anyhoo, realizing how girly it sounded (and finding that hilarious, as well as trying to find something humorously "manly" to "offset it" but with clear jest in mind), I went something along the lines of, "Oh, er, uh, I mean, MAN SQUEE~!" much to our mutual bouts laughter. It's been a meme of ours since. :)

So, the 'Manly' version of the FGS then?

(FGS = Fan Girl Squeal)
;)

Yes. (And it is just as fan-girlish, only several octaves lower.)

I think that Thundercats haven't spilled through the Iron Curtain enough for me to be exposed to them. I have a vague idea that I saw a few scenes of them but nothing tangible enough for any bit of plot. I might saw them on RAI Uno in nineties - images remembered but no comprehension of what was actually happening because of language barrier. Or maybe those were just a few flashes here and there.

Mostly, I suspect, because the entire show was nonsense. Also terrible. So, very, delightfully terrible.

Youtube man! you're never too old for really bad cartoons about human-cat hybrids fighting an ancient stupid as f#$& mummy lord for world domination:-p

Fixed that for you!

No, really, it was gloriously terrible!

(Also, I, too, grew up on those cartoons - except for Beast Wars - but Thundercats are entirely worthwhile. Worth noting, I remember nothing about Silverhawks other than the intro and toys, which I loved (though I don't remember that intro at all - I probably never saw it; I just recall the song starting at ~2:37 or so). ... man, I could keep linking things here forever...)
