it looks like I need a new roof :-(

the roofer took one roof tile out and we found out that there is no sealing between the insulation and the tiles to keep water out of the rockwool and the tiles have white watermarks on the downside
the tiles are 38 years old, that is end of life cycle for concrete tiles but the waterproofing is stupid, my dad always tookshortcuts when he built the 2nd floor (3rd floor for americans) onto the house :-( grrrrr

I hope he chimes in for roof payment, and I guess he will

It's not the moderators, per se. They initially made the correct decision, and are generally good people. The problem is that there are a set of folk with sway and pull and influence who came in after the fact to stir up trouble and frustration.

High tempers, all sorts of other problems and fall-out, and the dwindling forum is once again smaller by one.

Yes, said person made an expression of an opinion and feelings that are not great... but they also expressed them in a way that was not really as harsh as he was treated in follow-up by others.

The thing is, in that thread (which was locked) everyone's responses were reasonable, if with high tempers (because it was a high-tension discussion).

Because the moderators were reasonable, the people involved in causing drama started up another thread... to talk about how furious they were. Stirred up ever-more-drama, drew lines in the sand, and the same host of people as normal came in to dogpile on the mods and the poster, and bad feelings were fostered all-round.

>:(

Eventually first guy with the problematic opinion expressed in a reasonable way was banned.

A pair of questions my wife and I had fun with last night:

1) If you could create a gonzo 80's-like cartoon show (My Little Pony, G.I. Joe, Gem, He-Man, She-ra, Thundercats, M.A.S.K., Silverhawks, Dinosaucers, or Bravestarr, as examples), what would it be and why?

2) If you could create an anime of any kind that you'd like, what would it be and why?

This is open up to all sorts of people, not just the first to answer! I'm curious what you all think.

1- we've seen a kickass modern version of Thundercats(which had silver hawks in the background as an Easter egg), let's see what Mask would be like. Dinosaucers and Bravestarr are a bit too cheesy.

2-Moar UC gundam. Actually when I met the o-sensei, he said he wished he could do a gundam series where the characters were wearing suits of armor that enhanced their abilities. Not quite sentai, but close. I would love to do that and show it to the o-sensei before he inevitably passes.

For my own answers:

- 1) I never actually got around to making this one up. We got distracted and then tired and forgot all about it. :)

- 2) An anime based off of one of our games - it would (effectively) be a harem anime, but the premise is that an unusual character is drawn into strange events in a small, ungoverned settlement-region and slowly draws a number of exotic females into the mystery with him; it's a story about alliances, friendship, confusing love octangles, and the like. I'd call it Rivermeet due to that being the name of the campaign, as a reference to the prophecy the whole thing revolved around.

For my wife's
- 1) Rainbow-Sprites! They're little sprites that help people and make things sparkly.

- 2) Young woman trying (and failing) many different kinds of jobs in various ways. Some jobs would last multiple episodes, sometimes it would be several jobs an episode. Sometimes leaving a job would be voluntary, sometimes not, and sometimes necessary. In each case, she'd meet people, learn something, do stuff, and then move on.

Just finished Dragon Age: Origins, after ~55 hours. Halfway through the credits, the music switched from haunting Celtic music to "This Is War" by 30 Seconds To Mars. Talk about tone whiplash.

And now... on to Origins: Awakening, or straight to Dragon Age 2?

Spoilers, seriously:

Your actions in that game matter very little in the grand scheme of the world. All of this takes place on an island while the first game's events occur. The entire plot revolves around the Mage/Templar conflict with pretty much everyone acting like a!!%@%%s for no reason. Anders blows up the templars(And innocent chantry people who were trying to make things better) no matter what you do and the templars in particular are not particularly bad people. Just following bad orders. THEN you get the decision to do something about it but ultimately it matters not since you either kill Anders or let him go. But he still kills all those templars. And then you have the grand mage freak out and turn into an abomination to protect the mages(even though he slaughters a bunch of them) essentially proving the Templars right all along despite all the efforts you can go through to protect them but the Templar leader is even worse than that by wielding what is essentially a glorified lightsaber sucking her sanity away. The templar leader is just an awful character in general. Practically a mustache twirling bad guy discriminating against mages.

Gameplay wise it's significantly more shallow with many ability choices making the game far too easy. Enemies pop up from nowhere(literally dropping from thin air) instead of the previous game's monsters already in place. The locales you go to are recycled, reused, and re-textured so it feels like you've been in the same place for AGES. You WILL see the exact same caves 10 times or more.

On the good side, Verric is a rather charming character.

I disagree with opinion that it shouldn't be touched. While there are issues with the game play (terribly repetitive locations are the worst offender I think, the combat is made simpler and feels less tactical), the story is fine, party members are great, and the world expands.

I agree that Awakening should be probably played before DA 2, though.

I haven't played it myself so I wonder if I would liked <spoiler> more.

Fair enough. I don't believe the world expanded that much though. Everything you do is on that island(except a few short places). And ultimately your decisions don't matter for much. Agency is why a lot of people love games. Pathfinder and others.

I'll amend my statement by saying this.

Play it but don't expect a game as good as Origins.

2 was okay, especially if you play a mage. Inquisition better. Am walking artillery piece.

** spoiler omitted **

the spoiler part, at least from what I have heard /discovered, was astonishingly poorly written, possibly due to editing late in the proverbial game, so the character involved seemed...well, batsuit crazy (not a typo), at best, truly sociopathic at worst. It was supposed to be a situation that the player could see both sides of, not this. It went just as wrong as the jowan storyline did, and seemingly for the same reasons, which is quite ironic.

I wouldn't go so far as to say untouched, but certainly prepare for disappointment. It's a shadow of Dragon Age: Origins.

Some people will defend it, saying taken as it's own game, it's good, just as a follow up to DA:O, it's not as good. I disagree, in that, it IS the follow up to DA:O, it can't be reasonable judged on any other basis, BUT even if one did, it's not a good game. Maybe not a bad game, but certainly not good.

I wouldn't turn it down. It would be quite the humourous follow up to today's sunshine. Though next week would be even better for snow. I'm not sure if the little man has seen snow yet, and he'll be here then.

My Little Slaadi: Friendship is Chaos with some of the writers & animators stolen from Rick and Morty, Steven Universe, MLP:FIM, and Adventure Time. C'mon Hasbro, get WotC to loosen the IP strings so you can sell tons of slaadi figures and moichandizing.

If using slaadi fails, maybe Pathfinder goblins or kobolds could be the central characters?

Probably something along the lines of the "stories" my brother and I played when we were kids. I don't know if other kids did this but we managed to have at least some sense of continuity about what happened to our various toys and the characterizations we gave them.

Sadly I don't remember much of it now, but I'm pretty sure it was and would be the sort of craziness you'd see in something like Adventures of Doctor McNinja or Axe Cop.

On that note, either of those comics would make a GREAT basis for an 80's-style berzerko cartoon show.

Quote:
2) If you could create an anime of any kind that you'd like, what would it be and why?

Same as the above, but teen years. At that time we were into a lot of the early-US-aired anime such as DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ruroni Kenshin, etc., as well as RPGs like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Golden Sun, so the stories we put together had a lot of that sort of theme to it - the very over-the-top action and characters and all.

Those I actually still have the written stories on-hand, scattered in boxes from moving in old spiral notebooks. The stories themselves are... lacking... in narrative quality, but I think there are a few salvageable ideas in them. I just need to do something with them... which puts them somewhere on a very long list.

Pathfinder the cartoon. Staring a group of iconics (likely the core team from the comics), with other iconics coming on as guest stars. Come up with a good recurring villain, give them a handful of goblin henchmen...instant classic.

A second season of Outlaw Star, because I love that show.
