Please refrain from posting here until the 2011 Top 32 are revealed. This thread will be bumped at the appropriate time.

This is the place for the 2011 Top 32 (and alternates) to hang out, talk shop, and basically blow off some steam. And, as always, once the class of 2011 is revealed, past finalists are welcome to stop by and say hello.

So why is this being posted from the Future? In the spirit of the 2011 competition, this year's Guildhall is being revealed early so the Top 32 have extra time to prepare any introductions they want to make here. :P

Now, back to my trusty time machine and Tuesday, January 18th. As you'll soon see, this year's competition is going to be awesome.

And congratulations to those who just made it...

Paizo Employee Director of Brand Strategy

I've edited the thread title to remove "from the future" as the future is now. Congrats to all of this year's Top 32.

NO TIME TRAVEL! TOMORROW IS TODAY!

Congratulations you people!

Whoohoo! Take a few hours to celebrate and then get to work!

Mark, could you edit "2011" into the title, since there are now three Unofficial Top 32 Guildhall threads over the years? Thanks.

Congratulations to all of the Top 32 and alternates.

And, if I'm counting correctly, there are five repeat finalists this year! I am properly humbled.

Which I think is pretty awesome!

And let me say it is also excellent to see some women in the Top 32 this year, last year was like the World's Biggest Boy Band. Hooray, female d20 designers!

I'll ditto that. On both counts. To see five folks who have run the gauntlet before make it back is a really great thing. It shows they've learned what it takes to make a wondrous item that's eye-catching and innovative. Everyone else take note of how these guys approach the contest. There's a lesson to be learned here.

And so cool to see some lady gamers make another run for the prize.

I agree. People will note my use of the word "folks" a few posts up. I was delighted that I had no choice but to make it gender neutral. GO LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!

I'm a little in shock right now. I thought I would be autorejected on my item's name, which I thought could have been better. Just updated my profile. It's almost six here on the East Coast. I'm starving and snowed in right now. Think I'll take a minute to cook up some eggs and relax. I was going to spend my free evening watching movies, but I guess not now...

Also, congratulations to the rest of the Top 32. And thank you to the judges. Your responses to my item were very helpful and positive.

Contributor, RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16, 2011 Top 32, 2012 Top 4

I'm certainly humbled to be back. Good luck, everyone!

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16 aka Vigil

Wow!
Last week, when I learned what this year's "meme" was and that my item fell squarely into said meme, I kinda gave up all hope.
But here I am!
Whoo!
And now I have to think up an archetype!
I really wish I had started brainstorming sooner!
I should also stop using exclamation points to end every sentence!

Spoiler:
EXPLOSIVE RUNES!

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 32 , Dedicated Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 8 aka Isaac Duplechain

I was pretty surprised. Now I'm proud, then anxious to work on Round 2, which I had barely decided what to make.

Contributor

I'm totally crashing this party! *swaggers in*

Congrats to everyone in the Top 32 this year :D At some point this evening I'm going to go through and read each of the entries, and once open for comment I'll be giving feedback which I've been otherwise really spotty on doing the past two years. I recognize a few people from various places online, here on the Paizo boards and elsewhere, and a lot of new names - all of which means I just knew awesome people to begin with online, and that the talent pool is just growing and growing year by year. :)

Again, 'grats everyone, and I expect more awesome stuff as this unfolds.

Grand Lodge Contributor , Dedicated Voter Season 6, Marathon Voter Season 7, Dedicated Voter Season 8, Star Voter Season 9

Congratulations and good luck in round 2!

By the way, are the alternates allowed to discuss their round 1 items or see the judges' comments? It would be very helpful to see what the judges liked and didn't like about my item, so I won't repeat the same mistakes when writing the archetype for round 2.

The alternates can use this thread just like anyone else:

I concured about how nice it was to have female representation. Messageboard Bug ate my post! ::shakes fist::

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16

I feel proud and happy. But I also feel exhausted. After dancing around the office (which wasn't exactly vigorous), I just feel so spent. Maybe it was all that pent up adrenaline beforehand. (I still don't really know what was going on from 1pm to 2pm.)

Thank you Sean, for all your advice, it was really very helpful and put to practical use.
Thank you Clark, reading your comments from years' past had a very strong influence on me.
Thank you Neil, for helping guide the general attitude and approach on this one.

Paizo Employee Developer , Dedicated Voter Season 6, Marathon Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 8

Well, I'm not top 32, but there's a remote chance I will be if a few of you are slackers ;) So, hi everyone, good luck, nice work, and congratulations!

I think I'm finally coming down off my adrenaline rush. Man, that last hour of work was really hard to concentrate during, and I'm fairly sure I got nothing productive during that time.

Congratulations to the other Top 32 and alternates. I'm looking forward to reading your items, but that will have to wait until the weekend.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2011 Top 32 , Star Voter Season 8 aka Sect

That first thirty minutes of adrenaline and giddiness was exciting (and a bit scary), but after four hours of reading and commenting, I'm just tired. Plus, seeing everyone's items and the judges comments on my own item sobered me up.

I almost hyperventilated like I did when I was in the 2nd grade. Glad I didn't have work today, would have gotten nothing done.

I forgot how great this feels. At least for the first day or so before the wailing, tears, all-nighters, and madcap hammering my skull against the keyboard begins.
Hi, guys! Very proud to be part of this group. Best of luck to all!

Congratulations and hi, everyone! My stomach has finally found its way back to my body (if not the correct place in it) as I find this thread for the *third* time tonight. Sorry, my brain is still drifting somewhere on Cloud 9.

I am really looking forward to this entire experience. I have seen some wonderful items, and I can't wait to see everyone's archetypes. :)

Congrats to all the top 32, and to the FIVE (WOW!!) who are staging a comeback. I haven't had a chance yet to read all the top 32 and comment, but I'll be doing so shortly. I'm looking forward to seeing what all of you bring to the contest this year! Congrats!

Greetings and salutations! I can't believe I'm grouped with such awesomeness, talk about a boost to my ego.

After reading some of the other entries, I'm thinking I got awful lucky in the first round. I'll be heading out for a rabbit's foot or horseshoe tomorrow to help me through the second round.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 8 aka Tolroy

Congratulations to each and everyone of the 2010 Top 32. It is an honor and a privilege to find myself in the company of so many bright and creative people. May the world, or at least the forums, tremble as we wrench open the flood gates and give our all from here on out.

I can't wait to see what you all come up with for Round 2!

Congratulations to everybody that made it. I got the news at just past midnight, so didn't get much sleep (though I tried).

Based on the the items I've looked at already, I'm expecting some great stuff for round 2. Good luck all.

Anybody having trouble with the submission tool?

I want to get an official word count for my first draft, but I get the error message when I click the link.

I didn't get an error when I clicked the link just now. I didn't click the 'agree' link for the next page, but the main link for the submission tool seemed to work fine for me.

This was exactly the thought in my mind, minus the boy band.... >.> Huzzah for the female half of our race!

After the initial "bummer" phase wore off, I can wholeheartedly say that everyone deserves the win if for no other reason than for the simple facet of endurance (and persistence, and several other admirable factors). So congrats to all of you - and good luck with the remaining rounds! I suspect they are going to be even more grueling.

And many thanks to the judges, who have been similarly awesome for surviving the barrage of submissions! That's what you get for being popular! :P ;) Seriously, though - the diligence of reviewing every item and discussing it, even to a small degree - it shows a lot of hard work, for which they too should be congratulated (on surviving)!

What an awesome contest and design opportunity! What excellent people! ;) Best wishes, all.

Congratulations to everyone, and hello! This should be a lot of fun (though I predict productivity at work this week will be low). I've enjoyed reading everyone else's crazy items, and I'm looking forward to seeing some badass archetypes in a week or two.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16 , Star Voter Season 6

This is such a rush! A thousand thanks to the judges. I'm glad I happen to have today off so I can de-bug my potential archetypes, or else I'm pretty sure I'd be useless today. Even though I've said this in a couple other threads, congrats to you all, I'm looking forward to being shown up by 31 other archetypes.

Is anyone else less nervous to be competing against the to 32 than they were to be competing against the unnumbered masses?

Are we allowed to provide suggestions for class archetypes the Top 32 could do? I noticed someone (Isaac D.) said they weren't sure of what to use for round 2, and I loved my idea I had in mind. If someone pulled it off and it got included in a rulebook (Ultimate Combat), I would even send them cookies - NOT VIRTUAL ONES. My monk for Pathfinder Society wants something REALLY REAAAALLLLYYYY BBAAAAAAAADDDDDDD.

I'm not nervous about the competition. What happens, happens. If I do well, that's awesome, but if someone else winds up winning, that just means we get a designer who's better than me, which is still a win for the community.

What I AM nervous about now is making/finding the time to do my very best at this, with all of the other time commitments of work, family, and moving back into my house this weekend (long story). If I lose because someone else does better than me, that's fine, but I don't want to do poorly because I wasn't able to put my best work forward due to time constraints.

I am super glad that the rules for the next round are being released earlier this year. That should go a long way towards allowing enough time to get everything done.

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2011 Top 32 aka Bats Kabber

Hello Everyone.

I'm still in shock. It's the first time my creative work has been recognized outside my personal circle. For that alone I am eternally grateful to the judges and the community. Thank you all, it means a lot to me.

I've finally squeezed in time to read some of the other items today and I've got to say the competition is steep. You guys are really good. Bravo and good luck in round two!!

I hear ya'. Three days isn't a lot. Especially with work and school. Tried to leave early tonight to work on the archetype. Yeah, a one hour meeting and then everyone hounding me. Finally leave and I had to drive home in the snow. Grrr...
