Hello all, my LoF PbP group has just lost its cleric due to RL issues and we are looking for a replacement for a healer-type.
Background: The current group has finished Book 1 of the AP and consists of a bard/rogue, a ranger (recently returned to life), a wizard, and a fighter (archer) and I've been really lucky to find a great core who has been with the game since Post #1, at 1st level, and have risen to 5th level now.
Character creation guidelines:
5th level
20 pt buy
2 traits
PF and APG races and classes only
Be able to post at least 1x day (more is preferred)
Only one stat allowed below 10
For those unfamiliar with the AP, it is the desert setting of Katapesh. Depending on the quality of the concepts, I will accept applications until Wednesday, October 20th, Noon EST.
Don't worry about equipment for now. What I want to read in the concept is a visual image, base stats, and background of why your character would be doing/adventuring in the gnoll-infested desert or why he/she would want to meet/join the Sand Stalkers, a local adventuring group of some renown.
Any questions, let me know.

Hi Lucendar,
I've been looking for Legacy of Fire game for quite some time, so I will submit Khalid Al Ha'zareen Obviously he was built for a different game but if you find the concept interesting, I would be happy to re-tool him the rest of the way.
4th level attribute point would go into DEX
3rd level feat would be Desert Dervish from the Qadira book.
5th level feat would be Mobility
As a missionary that has gone to Kelmarane help re-establish the village, he is interested in spiritual and physical well being of the people of Kelmarane, and as such seeks to protect them from the marauding gnolls in the region.
Having heard of some of the exploits of the Sand Stalkers, he has sought them out to both aid them, and hope that they would be will to aid him.
If you would like more information, just let me know.
Thanks for the time and consideration.

Here is the character submission for Evelyn Clay. I have everything statted except for equipment.
Juhi is a native of southern Katapesh, hailing from a small village that no longer exists. The village, along with nearly every person Juhi knew, was swept away in a gnoll slaving raid when she was just four-years-old. Her parents died resisting the monstrous humanoids. Juhi spent a significant portion of her childhood in forced labor, performing simple tasks and chores for the nomadic desert people that purchased her from the gnolls. Traumatized by the death of her family and her master's frequent beatings, Juhi was resigned to a life without happiness or hope.
Her fortune changed the day a rival clan attacked her master's encampment. Juhi was able to escape during the confusion of battle. Her knapsack of provisions did not last long, however, and the young woman soon found herself delirious with heat and dehydration. She fainted, but awoke in the cool darkness of a cave. A desert hermit had found her and nursed her back to health. Juhi jumped at the chance to learn the ways of the dunes and oases from the druid and spent several years in training. She learned to listen to the whispers of the sands and how to speak back, gaining an empowerment she had never felt in her difficult childhood.
Now a seasoned explorer and traveler, Juhi is investigating the area near Kelmarane on reports of gnolls raiders despoiling the local flora and fauna. She is interested in joining with the Sand Stalkers after hearing of their success against the gnolls, both for her druidic duties and to achieve justice for the death of her family.

Even as a child Kahlid was different. Maybe it was his light blue eyes that marked him so or as he grew older his ability to seemingly control the desert winds. It was this ability that brought him to the attention of the tribal elders. One elder in particular took Kahlid under his wing and began tutoring him the ways of the desert, grooming Kahlid to be his succesor as the bedouin people shaman. Time passed and when the old man passed away the tribe looked to Kahlid to beseech the gods on their behalf.
One day while Kahlid took a group of tribesmen out to hunt for food a pack of gnolls attacked the village killing many and enslaving the rest. The hunting party was alerted to the trouble by a column of black smoke rising in the sky. The men hurried home but were too late, their encampment lie in ruins. Among the dead were Kahlid wife and young son, still missing was his infant daughter.
The hunting party soon became a war party as the men tracked down the gnoll raiding party and overwhelmed them, freeing those they had captured. Kahlid's daughter was not among those freed. Something died within Kahlid that day as those men of the war party were reunited with their relatives and loved ones. Those lucky few returned to the tribe's original encampment while Kahlid rallied those remaining to him and began a crusade against the gnoll tribes of the region.
Five years have passed since that fateful day and Kahlid's men have all passed on except for Kahlid himself. Using his magic to summon allies to his side Kahlid has become quite adept at summoning stronger and more durable aid than he was before but even that may not be enough.
Then one day while traveling across the desert Kahlid came upon an oasis where he knew none should be. entering the lush vegetation he was greeted by a young woman in a glowing, spotless, white gown. Knowing in his heart of hearts who this woman was she bade him to rest while she explained that it was not his time to pass over and that there wa a great task before him. A group of warriors were doing a great quest to stop evil, and that he must aid them in this quest, for in return they would aid him in his heart's desire.
This group known as the Sand Stalkers was located near Katapesh and that he must make haste to join them there.
Kahlid slept. When he awoke Kahlid was unable to tell if what he had experienced was real or a sun induced hallucination yet it was the middle of the day, and he felt miraculously refreshed and invigorated.
Having arrived at Katapesh via, appropriately enough, the Dawn Gate Kahlid has since spent the past week making inquiries as to the whereabouts of this noble band. Finally fiding these Sand Stalkers Kahlid approaches to make his introductions.

Some things I noticed on your character:
Your abilites appear to be built on a 25 point buy.
Druids have to maintain some semblance of Neutrality so Chaotic Good as an alignment is out.
Desert Druids don't get Wild Shape until 6th level, then are considered their level -2 for comapnion type/advancement.
Since Wild Shape isn't available until 6th level, Juhi doesn't meet the prerequisites for the Natural Spell feat.
Just an FYI.
Shifty |
OK when reading up a bit on a desert campaign a particularly peculiar 'desert' character entered my thoughts.
A brass coloured pseudo-dragon Oracle (Flames - follower of Sarenrae) who earnestly believes he IS a Brass Dragon. Of course the capacity to breathe fire (selectable mystery) only fuels the fire of his belief, so to speak...
Whilst I get that you said core races only, I think this could be done well and be quite memorable (in a good way)!
I accept that this is probably a bit of a 'unique' idea, but thought I'd pitch it as something totally different.
Thanks :)
Edit: I'd spend time to flesh this out more if you were suitably intrigued enough to ask me to do so...
Shifty |
I went ahead and did it anyway, as caught up on the idea as I was.
So here's to one of the most oddball PC's I think I have ever created. If it doesn't get used here, I'm making a module that contains him as a plot device :p
A little rough buuuuuuut...
Whether by kismet, or divine purpose, the priest to whom he span his tale of woe was also an avid scholar with a bent to the denizens of the deep desert, and believed that the ‘young dragon’ would offer an excellent subject to study and observe in order to learn more about its larger cousins.
Whilst being the subject of study, it wasn’t long before Auri began to do some study of his own, leading to his understanding of his greater draconic heritage, and by slow degrees he learnt more and more about Sarenrae, endlessly poring over a battered copy of The Birth of Light and Truth.
As he slept at night, Auri’s dreams began filling themselves with a recurring theme of a flaming wheel of sunlight humming at him in some language he couldn’t understand. Over time the noise began to fade and reveal itself as words he could understand, words which in turn evolved into vivid lengthy discourses and dialogues which by degrees began to unravel further insights into the deeper mysteries of Sarenrae.
Curiosity may well have killed the odd cat, however at no point has any scholar anywhere ever recorded it as having killed any dragons, so Aurichalcum decided to spread his wings and set off in search of his ancestors, the legendary great wyrms of the desert. Of course if he was totally honest, curiosity was only one motive, a peculiar feeling of loneliness and wanting to meet with others of his own kind was also a gnawing he could no longer ignore.
Knowing that the search would be difficult alone, and having had limited experience in the broader world, Auri sought out others who may call the desert home, and who may be able to aid him on his quest. Whilst quietly roosted under the eaves of an Inn by a moonlit oasis, Auri was intrigued by a conversation being had by four strange folk about their forays into the deep sands... intrigued enough to begin following them to discern whether they may be the companions he was looking for.
/ooc Auri FIRMLY BELIEVES he is a Brass Dragon. The fact that they are gigantic and he isn't he thinks ios because he may have missed some 'step' required to grow to his full size, and believes that the dragons can help him grow to his full magnificence.

Wow. I read through much of the thread for the Sand Stalkers. good stuff. I would be honoured to play with this group. So here is my submission. You needed a healer, right?:
Character profile under construction here Mundinus.
Mundinus Galenus is a tall and skinny young man with an ascetic - almost emaciated look. His right leg is missing, replaced by a wooden peg. He uses a longspear and a small hooked staff as crutches. His face and eyes are handsome and penetrating. He wears flowing robes over a close fitting mail shirt. He carries a scimitar on his hip and a bright shield over his shoulder.
This young physician grew up in Katapesh - the son of a Pesh Dealer. While still a young boy a terrible fire swept through the tenement where he lived, Mundinus lost his leg in that fire when a huge timber crushed it, however he was rescued by a brave half-orc street urchin named Brebork.
Mundinus spent the rest of his childhood as an amputee and pesh addict in the care of the priests of Sarenrae. His experiments with various drugs and oitnments as well as his sufferring as a patient introduced him into the study of medicine. Despite the challenges of his handicap, Mundinus is convinced that his true illness during his convalescence in Katapesh was a spiritual one...and that the best healing he ever received was from the words of encouragement and hard lessons he received from the young half-orc Brebork - who often checked in on him at the darkest of times.
He believes that care for the sick requires more than technique and divine magic. It requires that the spirits of the infirm be lifted. It requires leadership and personality of a gifted physician. With time he came to be known among the healers of the temple as a bright young talent in the making - a gifted healer with supernatural powers. But he never attributed his power to the Goddess. He blasphemously insisted that the power was his alone.
As he approached adulthood he became more strident in his blasphemous egotism, so the Priests decided to avoid controversy by sending him to Absalom to study medicine in one of their hospitals there, from where he worked for several years, as an itinerant healer in the city as well as in the surrounding country. He achieved great fame and renown and was invited to become a private physician for one of the City's wealthiest patrons.
One day he heard rumours that far away in Katapesh his hero Brebork had fallen, and that deeds of great renown were afoot in the gnoll infested desert around Kelmarane. Longing for adventure, desert skies and a chance to do honour to his old friend, Mundinus sailed back to his old home to search for the Sand Stalkers and offer his services in their righteous cause.
Mundinus Galen Avenzoar |

Here's my submission: G'arr Bloodfist not entirely sure where the plot is at this stage, so if the obvious trait is no good please let me know I will amend the story and select another trait.

"Saranae, Asmodeus, it makes no difference, seek the Flame and your path shall be clear. Among the shadows of the carrion King, a flame has grown, I seek the Sand Stalkers, and no one shall stall stand in my way."
Submitting Zar'tan an Oracle of Flame, will flush out the rest as it comes to me, but the basic feel and some stats sare in the profile.
Zerist Ziokahn |
DESCRIPTION
Zerist is a tall, dark skinned man of average build. He keeps his hair close
cropped, beard, and moustache as well - all very short and trimmed neatly.
He wears clerical garb traditional of the desert - pants that billow wide
around the thighs, but are bound tightly below the knees and tucked into
tall, soft soled boots. His torso is protected by well oiled dark leather
armor. Bracers of the same dark leather protect his forearms, while the
long sleeves of a loose fitting white shirt billow from underneath the
leather armor and are gathered and tucked into the bracers. A stole of
white embroidered with many small stars in brown thread, a holy symbol of
Desna, wooden shield engraved with a large starburst, and a short spear
gripped tightly in his fist complete the ensemble.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -
BACKGROUND
Zerist was born in a very small Osirion village numbering no more than 100
commoners. His father, Zaieed, was a retired adventurer, his mother a common
village girl Zaieed had met while on a mission. Zaieed was a cleric of Desna,
and a member of the Pathfinder Society. Life was simple, and Zaieed had come
to view himself as a shepherd to the small village - the people his flock. He
was kind, and wise - well liked and well respected. Zerist's family never
wanted for anything, and as a young man with no farm to tend he found himself
with a great amount of free time.
There was time spent in study - Zerist took quickly to the worship of Desna,
and his father taught him to be a good man above all else. To do what he
thought was right, to help others, to be compassionate, and kind. After his
morning studies as a boy Zerist would often spend his afternoons at the
village inn - helping the cooks in the kitchen and doing chores for extra
coin. He learned much about food preparation, and he found that he was quite
good at it.
His father would tell him stories about his adventuring days in the
Pathfinder Society before bedtime. The tales of danger, exploration,
treasure, and excitement grew on Zerist - as soon as he could walk and talk
it was obvious he would follow in his Zaieed's footsteps. To this end,
Zerist began learning the ways of an adventurer. His father taught him of
Desna, local hunters taught him how to use a spear to defend himself. He
got a job at the village inn cooking, and saved his wages to fund his dream.
Oftentimes, explorers and archaeologists would stop at the inn on their way
to a large, nearby ruin. This had always been the main commerce for the
small village. As soon as he could, Zerist began taking jobs as a porter for
any expedition that would hire him. He soon found that the local ruins were
quite docile in nature, and while quite interesting from an archaelogical
perspective, they offered little for an aspiring adventurer.
Zerist was able to save up more than enough for a good supply of adventuring
equipment. With his feet wet on the local ruins, competent training under
his belt, and a strong faith in Desna, Zerist set off to find work as a
battlefield medic, travel the world, and create his own stories of adventure
and excitement to tell his children one day.
Zerist created a small name for himself as an incredibly efficient and
effective healer supporting merchant caravans, adventuring groups, and other
travellers upon the sands of the Osirian desert. Setting off for Katapesh,
Zerist now considers himself a capable adventurer, and seeks to find an
Adventuring Company of some repute that he could join.

Ok, I'm jumping the gun 2 mins early. Again thank you all for the quality submissions. It made my decision difficult. After much debating, I have decided to go with only one character selection and the lucky winner is: Mundinus Galenus. Please post to the OOC thread within a day to confirm your interest in the game. I will keep the rest of you in mind if there is a need for further replacements in the future. Thanks!

RECRUITING AGAIN
Hello all, unfortunately, the character I selected has disappeared and not posted in 6 days. Seems this is happening a lot to LoF games, not just mine. My one pet peeve is I require regular posting and can't stand players disappearing without notice to the DM. So the spot is open again to join the group, if anyone from the previous posts is still interested or if anyone new wants to join. I believe Talomyr and Auric have since found LoF games so that's great for you guys. Any questions, let me know.

What did you lose/ what is needed to roudn out the party?
LoF is one I haven't be able to get into yet, but i'm interested, I'll play whatever the group could use.
I enjoy your dming style, I'm in your kingmaker game., would love to play under you in LoF
Lucendar |
Appreciate the compliment, Solarious. I try to keep it fun. Basically, the party lacks a healer-type. You don't have to be a full-on cleric but someone with access to some type of healing (oracle, druid, etc) would be beneficial. Creation rules are in the first post if you scroll back up. Let me know.

Thinking maybe a Human(Badawi) desert Druid, with the Fire Domain instead of an animal friend. With his Permission, I could Tie my Background into your Ranger's Quzman Garhani
I could be from the Same Tribe, one of their Shaman. I had a Vision that I would need to Aid/protect him in his quest. This is why I have come now, and not before. Being that i would be old than him, I would set my age at middle age or older, just for fluff(Not fishing for higher casting stats).
Let me know what you think.

Definitely, Solarious, I like it and if Quzman is cool with it, go for it. I even have a cool vision in mind for how to get you in. Let me know when you think you can have him up and running.
To the rest of the board: I think the recruitment is over. Wow, that was fast! Awesome!
