About Zar'tan

Carrion Crown tie in:

Over the years, Zar'tan made many trips home, and on one such trip he was travelign through the night, hoping to reach their estate by sunrise. By mere chance, he had stopped at a stream to water his horse, when he heard a cry for help. Drawing his blade, he slowly advanced down the road. Beginning to think the darkness was playing tricks on him, Zar'tan was ready to return to his horse when the professor came running into view, followed by a large creature. As he stood transifixed at the seen, he slowly realized that the man was yelling at him "RUN!" Suddenyl time sped up and the two raced to his horse. Jumping astride they bolted down the road, soon outdistancing the nightmare creature. The professor stayed with at Zar'tan's family estate for a few days, and when he left promised to never forget Zar'tan and the ngiht he saved his life. That was a few years ago, and now Zar'tan finds himself on the road again, answering the mysterious summons in the professor's will. As he draws closer, he can't shake the feeling that some outside force is calling him to this town, and like a moth, he can not help but be drawn to the flame....

Appearance:

Zar'tan is a slim man, at 5'11" and 150 lbs. He has dark red hair and a lepidstadt scar on his left cheek. His clothes and gear are well made and kept clean, and combined with his attitude and body language gives the impression of nobility.

Background:

Zar'tan is the youngest of a minor count. His father and oldest brother ran the Family estate and business, leaving a wild Zar'tan in tha care of tutors. Not much for figures, except a woman's, Zar'tan was an intelligent boy who just needed the right outlet. Hoping it would shape up the boy, Zar'tan's father enrolled him in the University of Lepidstadt. During his years at the University, Zar'tan joined one of the dueling fraternities, becoming an average, but not exceptional fencer, not possesing the discipline needed to rise high in the class ranks. When not practicing his sowrdpaly, he was usually getting into trouble. Sneaking into the girls dormatories, stealing fine wines from professors, and the like. Once, in need of a hiding palce, he snuck into a class on arcane studies. Although he ahd intended to slip out before class ended, he found himself enthralled by class. As fate would have it, the instructir had spotted his not so sneaky entrance, and called Zar'tan to his study. The outcome of that meeting found Zar'tan takling up magical studies along side his swordplay. Though not overly gifted, Zar'tan was a decent student, able to manifest limited arcane abilities. More suprising was the effect this had on his swordplay. He began to rise in the dueling ranks, with instructors noticing a more focused Zar'tan than they had ever seen. During a tournament, Zar'tan made it to the semifinal round before being disqualified for using magic in a duel. It wasn't even a concious thought, just a reaction to his opponent and a quick flare to draw his attention as the blade struck home. That was years ago and over tose years, Zar'tan has learned to combine spell and blade to deadly effect.
