I know A lot are done by freelancers already but Josh used to write like nice chunk of them.

I hope Josh continues to write for PFS. His adventures have played a large role in defining the Society as it now stands and I know he had a lot of great ideas on the horizon, both with already announced products like his three-part story arc next year as well as others that are still secret.

I second that!!!

Secrets? Sneaksy!

Farewell and good luck to Josh. He was and always will be an integral part of Pathfinder Society. It was great to have him as a guest at NeonCon 2009. I look forward to seeing him down the road at GenCon, when both of our schedules are not so crazy!

And, welcome to Hyrum! For those of you who have not had the pleasure of meeting him, let me tell you that Hyrum is, in my experience, a stand-up guy and all-around talented dude. While he has big shoes to fill, I am confident he'll do so in grand fashion.

Grand Lodge 5/5 ****

Welcome Hyrum.

It's sad to see Josh go. He did a great job here on the boards. It often isn't an easy job to act as the person inbetween when a few of members here want the opposite of each other.

Josh surely has built up the Society now to a level where it can withstand a change like that - but it will be your job to bring the society to the next level.

Good Luck

One of the guys I game with had something to the effect of "I don't need a number, I wrote the game" on it from Jason.

But one important thing: The forum avatar is very important!
Everyone thinks Josh is grumpy caus his avatar looked grumpy.

So unless you want everyone tho think you are a demon-posessed monkey, you might rethink your avatar! ;-)

Might also be a good time to update the ol' forum profile since he doesn't work for Super Genius Games, etc, etc any longer... ;)

I, for one, welcome our new demonic monkey overlord(s).

Huh. I thought the name sounded familiar. I actually ran the Doom From Below in my Delta Green campaign. A solid scenario which provided great fun for my players.

Also, I would like to express my solidarity with my monkey brother. Eek, eek!

Well, in fairness, I thought Josh was grumpy because the first time I met him, he was grumpy...BUT, that was a Gencon, likely the most stressful time of his year. I probably would have been quite a bit more than "grumpy" in his shoes! :P

Best wishes to him whatever he ends up doing.

If he was fired, there is no way they're going to answer that. Potential liability aside, it would simply be unprofessional.

Personally, I say we just choke down any morbid curiosity and thank Josh again for what he has done for PFS.

So...thanks Josh, and best of luck. :)

Yes. You are right. I guess if I was in Josh's shoes, I wouldn't want the reasons discussed in public either, so it's better to let it be. It just doesn't seem right, and I guess it seems even worse when it's a company that makes so little mistakes and normally is all made of awesome.

There is also the possiblity that it was Josh's decision to move on o greener pastures. Either way he will be missed and I wish him good luck.

There are many possibilities, and -- given Josh's professionalism, dedication, and terrific skills -- I wouldn't start by assuming he was fired.

Baseless speculation suggests that he'd had enough of the ridiculous hours at Paizo and had decided to go into something with more reasonable time demands, like being a surgical resident.

Or that his recent shoulder surgery was more drastic than we'd been led to believe, that he's now walking around with an evil right hand and scrawling "Kill, kill, kill!" on scenario submissions, which is never helpful.

Or, and I consider this the most likely option, he's heard that Cosmo's gall bladder has begun a life of crime in Indianapolis, and he's gone off to bring the Bile-sack of Bedevilment to justice.

(Or he may have wanted to spend more time with photography or his other interests....)

Shadow Lodge

Personally, he made it clear that he didn't want to make a huge deal of it, so i'm not going to take the time to speculate as to why. I merely wish him well and hope that he still pops by my local group from time to time. He was a great GM, and we still hope to host him as a player.

Would have expected the announcement to come from Josh then... but yes, most of us will never know. Despite never meeting, I've come to think of a bunch of the Paizo staff as, if not friends, at least kindred spirits, so it's hard when something like this happens.

Take care, Josh, and thanks.

He said elsewhere that it wasn't his choice (that is all he said on the matter).

I was kinda hoping that the topic will die out and people won't dwell on rampant speculation, but alas, this is the intardwebz.

Other than Chris Mortika joking, I don't see where "rampant speculation" is, unless you're setting a low bar for what comprises "rampant". I can understand that Paizo may not want this discussed on their own boards, and there are confidentiality issues regarding what they say, but "rampant speculation" and the adaptation of "retard" to describe it? Really?

It is certainly speculation. It's not a court of law, however, so speculation in general isn't out of bounds (even though I can imagine Paizo won't want this discussion on their own, hosted boards).

That's what you call "rampant speculation", requiring allusion to "retard" and direct mention of tinfoil hats?

Our English vocabularies include the same words and phrases, but apparently they don't mean quite the same thing.

I think that if we only discussed what we thought was likely to be resolved, we wouldn't discuss very much. I discuss things, mostly and selfishly and mostly selfishly, to make them clearer in my own mind, which is best done by discussing them with other people.

I mean, sure, maybe everyone would end thinking like me, but could the world survive that much awesome? I contend that it might cause an implosion of space-time.

Rampant paranoid internet speculation being the inevitability that it is, I took the liberty of making a home for it in this thread over at ENWorld. I titled it "Insane Paranoid Conspiracy Theories" for a reason, as I suspect just about every reason we as the Internet can come up with will be absolutely wrong.

We can at the very least keep all of this worthless rumor-mongering off of Paizo's own boards, leaving this thread for well-wishes for Josh and questions about how this will affect the future of Pathfinder Society.

Posts of this tenor likely actually make me more likely to want to carry on in order to irritate you with my worthless conversation. And "insane"? Seriously? Mostly people were wondering whether he was fired or left of his own accord, more than speculating as to why (although knowing why would answer the former question) in large part, I suspect, because they like or respect Josh or his work and have, therefore, some interest as to why he's gone.

No. Though the request for a murder mystery will probably be removed due to a deluge of submissions along those lines.

While the initial reaction to the recent changes at Paizo have been necessarily retrospective, I do think it's entirely appropriate to congratulate Mark on his new gig and wish him the very best of luck.

PFS Scenarios are generally observed to be among Paizo's best kept secrets. While it is true that PFS Scenarios modules are necessarily linear and often less interesting that most of Paizo's other adventure offerings, most =! all. There are some true gems in this product line.

I look forward to seeing what Mark can do with PFS Scenarios in the future. While change can bring with it some trepidation and the possibility of failure -- it presents an opportunity to succeed, too.

The very best of luck to you Mark and I hope you are excited about this opportunity. I know I sure would be! :)

If you're looking at this on a shield, it would be a black background with a silver diagonal line from the viewers upper right to lower left, with a Speculation coloured red and standing on one rear foot and its three other appendages raised.

If the speculation overlay the bend, that should be "Sable, a bend sinister argent, overall a speculation rampant gules"

Some heralds would feel that device violates the rule of tincture (a color on a color), but others feel that a speculation is best emblazoned in a way that leaves it a bit unclear.

When we started Paizo, I set up the conventions for e-mail naming, and every employee initially had tons of valid addresses: first name only, last name only, firstname.lastname, and a few other things. Josh and a couple of other people preferred the first-name-only version, but I ended up phasing them out for most people since they generate too much spam.
