The winner better make it nasty enough to scare dragons. Paizo folks (used to?) hate all those half-dragon submissions.

On second thought, if it can prevent the outbreak of half-dragons on Golarian you might have something they want.

Good point. I guess we all like a little crazy in our Paizo.

Haunts. I'd like a round featuring haunts. After quick re-working of the haunt mechanics from RotRL to work with PRPG released on a free 'playtest' PDF, I'd like to see what kind of haunts the Top 32 could come up with.

I come up with haunts all the time. I scare the hell out of myself. When are we going to see the re-working of the haunt rules?

I think in the GameMastery Guide. Unfortunately with no revised rules out at this time, this would be like writing for the Beta Classes.

Unless of course they released the Haunt Rules as a Community wide preview and told the contestants, "Now use them."

Here is my fist of awesome sauce.

1) A Great Villain An Ice Skating Medusa.

2) A Great Location A frozen underground water fall, feeding a frozen lake of fire (lava) that used to heat a small hamlet.

3) A Compelling Plot Bring life back to the area by solving the source of the cold. Man against nature, and the supernatural.

4) Cool Minions Literally, yes.

5) An Awesome Reward I've been a fan of phat loot, but lately I find plot rewards rather...rewarding. Being treated as a hero, like in Burnt Offerings after defeating the goblin attacks, was a nice touch. I think earning renown to be a cool reward still, but perhaps a cool reward would be a frozen dragon egg they can hatch and train to be a companion, mount, npc ally.

Such a wonderful mental image there: Tonya Harding as a Medusa.

Personally, I'd love to see a Create a Demon Lord round.

Contributor, RPG Superstar 2010 Top 4

Draconas wrote:

That's an interesting idea. I think it would have to be an all background material entry. as there are no statblocks for Demon Lords (or Arch Devils) now. However there have been all background rounds before (i.e. Design a Country).

Supplying plot hooks could also be part of the entry. A good name is always challenging too.

I actually there is some merit to all "background material" rounds, as well as those that call for statblocks.

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32 aka Hydro

Yea, demonlords are fun to make, combining the coolest features of evil villains and evil religions.

Don't know how I feel about stats for them, though. I've always found archefiend stats fun to read, but (short of epic) not very useful in play.

When I was an RA one of the women on staff asked if she could put plants in the urinals as they were not needed for her floor (building was old enough to not have a women's floor when it was built).

The chainsaws in the 300' tall plant was my idea though.

Hey, FW, did you enter this year?

1) A Great Villain An evoker who suffered a horrible accident and must now wear a robe of ice to stay alive.

2) A Great Location An alchemy lab kept at a chilly -30 degrees Fahrenheit.

3) A Compelling Plot The evoker must build a criminal empire in order to raise the funds necessary to reverse his horrible condition. Oh, and save his wife.

4) Cool Minions Dudes on ice skates in blue suits with freeze ray guns--er wands.

5) An Awesome Reward You get to use an Austrian accent and say things like, "You're not sending *me* to the cooler!" and "Mercy!? I'm afraid my condition has left me *cold* to your pleas of mercy!" And if that's not enough of a reward, I don't know what is.

The storyline in the animated series was awesome, as was Freeze's voice actor. Ahnold really couldn't do the character justice.

Nope, I sat in front of my parent's PC with no connectivity and got very frustrated with myself for all the prior procrastination. Didn't get home until after the deadline and am hoping my one good idea will last until the next competition.

Anyway good luck to everyone that did get their act together.

Arnold as Freeze was a very interesting casting. Not necessarily good, but interesting.

The animated Freeze was so good that he was a hard act to follow. Same with Lex Luthor, for that matter.

It was likely an attempt to get non-comic fans to watch the movie. For a while, any movie that had Arnold in it was gauranteed to sell more tickets.

Gene Hackman will always be the perfect Lex Luthor - amazingly smart, but not omniscient like later incarnations.

I also always hear "Mis-ta Lu-thor" whenever his name is said, which brings a smile to my face.

I know that last year was mostly villains, so they're more likely to swing in the opposite direction, but it'd rock if this year was TWO villains.

I.e, a "design a villain round" followed by a "design another villain who is arch enemies with the first villain" round.

Or "who works with the first villain".

Or even "design a villain tag-team".

I fully imagine with the trend in previous years, that one round is going to be "design a villain". I'm hoping for "design a lair/villainous haunt" because artwork is more my specialty. Hey! can I get bonus points for sketching out my wondrous item (doubtful, but can't blame me for trying). I'm kinda hoping maybe one round will be "design a rival adventurer party". I'm hoping intelligent item designing is out, I hate having to deal with items that talk back (I imagine I'd be like dealing with my 8 going 16 year daughter).

A reasonable variant on "design a villain" is "design a henchman". Especially for an adventure where the villain might need a strong person to assist them in committing their evil.
