About Paul Worthen

Hey everyone, I'm Paul. I live in the quiet little town of Willington, Connecticut. I'm 29 years old, married, and I have 2 kids, ages 11 and 7. I'm a microbiologist and I do quality control for a local distillery. I've been playing D&D for almost 20 years, and writing my own adventures and campaign settings since Day 1. My other hobbies include Warhammer Fantasy and playing guitar.

My biggest writing influences are George R.R. Martin (Song of Ice and Fire) and Bill King (Felix and Gotrek). As you can probably tell, I'm a big fan of "dark fantasy" in which the heroes don't struggle to succeed, but merely to survive in a world which in largely unfair, cruel, and full of big monsters that want to eat them. I'm also a big fan of the holy trinity - Lovecraft, Leiber and Howard. You can't really go wrong anywhere those guys are concerned. I'd probably be remiss if I didn't mention my huge love for Margaret Weis and Robert Jordan, both of whom I read when I was quite young and both of whom shaped my concept of what fantasy "should" be.

Fun Facts about me:
* I'm on Facebook! You can look me up and friend me!

* I was published twice in scientific journals during grad school! If you google my name and "medicinal leeches" you should be able to pull them up and read all about my fascinating grad work.

* I post regularly at the DnD Archive, and occasionally enter the contests on that site, and write reviews for them. I use the handle astute1 on the forums there. Come on over and check us out!
