How the hell did you get yours and MY notice says it wont ship till the 11th, and I'm on the east coast? I'm still wondering how its going to get to me on the 13th...

I got the same notice, it says it will ship BY the 11th. Big difference.

If Lisa and crew were REALLY awesome they'd be signing the books as they packed ;)

Just kidding guys, I'll track you all down at Gencon 2010 ^^

Just a note on Why it's there. Last Thursday we're at the office late - like 10:00 late - finishing up the dark ones' cave in James's Sandpoint game, when Jeff, Cosmo, Vic, and Lisa come on up. They'd been in the warehouse all evening packing boxes of the PFRPG. And then turned around the next day and joined Jeff S., Alison, and Brock the next day to do it some more! So yeah, there's a pretty good chance that if you have your now, it was packed by the owners/managers of the company way past their bedtimes. Just throwing that out there! It's really exciting that folks are getting this now - somehow that helps make the last months of work all real.

I got mine... you guys are awesome!! Thanks guys the book looks awesome.

Isn't it bad form to be gaming at the office when the bosses are in the warehouse packing shipments? :)

Thanks Jeff, Cosmo, Vic, and Lisa!!!!

Tis good to see people all working together like that, must be a great atmosphere (as long as working til 10 is now going to be considered the norm!)

Wow tell me about it. My eyes went from blue to green in seconds.

... but then it went back to blue out of joy. It's REAL. People are getting them and that's just plain awesome. I ordered mine through the FLGS but sometimes they do get them early. I did save some money on doing that though. 15% actually so I can't complain TOO much

Got mine too! Thanks, for working late to pack up my shipment :)

Won't be getting my hardcopy until 10:01am this coming Thursday. That is to say: one minute after the dealers' room opens at GenCon. =P

But congratulations to everyone who's getting their book early!

Ah, the mixed blessing of using UPS for shipping: I now know that I will get my package of PRPG goodies on release day!

It also means that the cat is out of the bag. No reason to delay the PDF. As soon as it's ready, give those whose books haven't even shipped yet, and who will probably have to way for another two weeks or so, the same benefit those lucky ones got: Read the book before the release date.

I don't think they messed up. They shipped out the books as soon as they could and it's only natural some people are going to get more lucky then others. Shipping is generally out of their control I imagine as to when an item gets where by what time.

Heck our USPS is nuts where I live. Takes 5 days sometimes to deliver something 40 minutes away where as two states away I'll get in 2 days ... doesn't make sense.

Anyway I'm ok with waiting. I pre ordered my book through a FLGS and they haven't received their shipment early. I might even have to wait until Friday instead of Thursday but them's the breaks. I'm just happy it's coming up and even though I'm a little jealous for those who already have theirs I'm also glad they do ^_^

Misery wrote:

Yes, they did. Their goal was to have everyone receive the book at roughly the same time.

As it stands now, some people got the book a week early, others will get it a week or more late.

Add to that the fact that some receive the book before it was even shipped to others, and they said they would ship the stuff that takes longest first.

I'm not imply malice here. I don't say they're slacking. But their plan didn't pan out.

And I must say that it would be only fair to make the PDF available early. The main reason was to not let beans be spilled, the way I hear it. The beans have been spilled.

Perhaps you're right about the whole PDF thing and that I can understand. I just felt a little put off by your post when I read it when I probably shouldn't have been. The post you quoted about them staying late and working hard and I guess when I read yours it kind of came off as saying "It's not good enough because I didn't get mine" kinda thing.

It will be curious to see if they do release it early ... but I doubt they'll do it. It might affect sales of the hardcover by doing so ... or maybe it wouldn't. Who knows. But odds are we won't even see a decision until Monday or something (or at least if they decided to it wouldn't be until then as it's the next work day).

Don't get me wrong: I'm not trying to depreciate the effort they're putting into getting things back on track.

In fact, I just want to show them something they might not have realised. Something that will further help their efforts.

I must say that I am disappointed with the situation: I hoped to get the thing on time, maybe even early. Had my shipment gone out last monday, that would even have been possible.

I'm really itching to see the book. Now I guess the book will be a week or more late. And others have the book right now. I must admit I'm envious.

Misery wrote:

I'm quite sure it wouldn't.

Plus, this could be a special deal for those who have ordered the book early (my order stood since before over a year ago), those who have subscribed. Those whose book is already shipping. Those who have already paid for the book (and the PDF as well)

Leave the official release date the way it is, just like with the hardcover. But cut us loyal customers some slack.

I think it is strange that anyone should demand that Paizo release the PDF file, just because other people got their copies early, due to the vagaries of different shipping methods. I expect to wait a month for the shipment, and I am fine with that.

A release date is a clear time for the launch of a product. Let them stick to it.

To be so stridently urging them to change their commitments to suit your whims is, quite frankly, odious.

Some interesting comments. I can't help but think about the other side of the coin - they could simply have held off ALL shipments until the official release date. That way they would have avoided all the stress/strain/work of trying to balance things out and provide a higher level of customer service.

I actually changed my shipping method to a quicker one thinking that I might get it sooner - no regrets, but lesson learned as well. However, I don't hold that against Paizo or expect them to make a policy change at the last moment. Am I envious of those who have got their copies already - yep. However, bottom line is that I'm a couple of days away from getting something I've been waiting nearly a year (I think?) for - a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme, IMHO.

It's obvious that the Paizo crew (every single one of them) have been doing everything they can to accommodate their (rabid :) ) fan base while balancing decisions with what they feel is best for the success of the launch and company. I applaud them and thank them for their efforts.

A couple of days to go...

To reitterate what has been said -- The PDF is not ready. It doesn't matter whether Paizo wants to give it out early to placate folks that perceive something wrong with the shipping or not, if it ain't done, it can't be given out. James said he had his fingers crossed that they would have it completed by the 13th! Patience folks :)

I think KaeYoss has done a really good job of keeping his opinion exactly what it is, an opinion, not a demand. The first sentence of his post put me off, but once I actually read what he was saying, I think his position is valid, and he's not being aggressive about it (he's just pointing out that things didn't work as intended).

I personally can think of one very good reason to release the PDF, those who pre-ordered and don't have it for the characters they need to make for Gen Con Pathfinder games. As it stands they'll be frantically scribbling out a new character once they grab their book at 10:01 AM (and in full disclosure, I am one of these people and that's WHY I didn't pre-order). If they had a PDF for the car ride or flight, it I'm sure would be very helpful (heck even the volunteer request indicated that they'd get a PDF copy a full 24 hours before anybody else got to see the product, which is now kind of a moot point).

Of course if the PDF isn't ready, good reasons won't exactly get it out any sooner.

The Exchange

A little patience goes a long way. We've waited this long, a little longer is perhaps not fun but is really not that big a deal. Envious of those who have it already? Yep, who isn't? Worried over a lack of shipping notices? I was a bit anxious myself. I needn't have been.

The folks at Paizo have bent over backwards and I'd say gone beyond the call on this. Well done guys!

And thank you.

Actually, I quite agree with MisterSlanky. Emphasis in the quote above is mine.

As long as KaeYoss is polite, leave him be. Let him ask. If the PDF is not ready, or Paizo decides to decline for other business concerns- let that be their decision.

There is a mentality that goes around here that seems to suggest that so long as one praises Paizo and speaks in their defense, then you can do or say no wrong. That's not true. Odious is a horrible word if you take the opportunity to look it up, and at best it's an exaggeration to apply that term to his request.

Let Paizo be the business. If KaeYoss is just making a request, then leave him alone.

I am happy people have gotten their books early, do, I wish, I was
one of them, yes, but, the release date is the 13th, so, I will
wait, I have gotten my shipping e-mail already, and deliver is after
the 11th, I think they have done a great job, it is difficult to put
a new produce out on the market and try to make sure everyone who
wants it receives it at relatively the same time.

Not exactly true. Slot One's seminar takes place at 8 Am and is for creating/converting characters. Not sure what kind of resources will be made available, but imagine it will be more than none. Yes, New Jersey is in the US. Opposite side of the continent from Paizo. I also use the cheapest shipping method, New Jersey is one of the (if not the) biggest port in the world. Everything bound for NYC goes through us and so mail (especially USPS) gets here very fast. I frequently will buy something, pay for the cheapest shipping, and have it arrive in 2 days or sometimes even next day!

Also, I got the same e-mail that everyone else is getting say it will ship by the 11th, and got no e-mail telling me it actually DID ship already, it was a pleasant surprise. Just remember that if you got an e-mail saying it will ship BY the 11th that BY the 11th is not necessarily ON the 11th.

Also, based on the content of your box, I probably have at least another day to wait for my notification (whine).

I'll have to get the neighbor kid who I GM for to keep an eye out for the big box from paizo. Otherwise, I know it'll rain every day after it arrives until I get back from GenCon.

My consolation is that I'll be among the first at GenCon to get the book, being a tier one GM.

((PS: My main whine stems from the fact that I'm still waiting on LAST month's adventure path and modules, and the non-subscription stuff that was supposed to ship with that is what's delaying the whole shipment, if I understand the way this works. I agree. Some people just need to relax and cut the Paizo folks some slack. You do the best you can do with what you can control and then some things are out of your control. As for releasing the PDF early, they have already said they are still working on making it better, adding links, proofreading etc, so geez, just relax already.

so did anyone get their pathfinder book from a source other than from paizo? or are they the only ones that broke the street date?
