If you're trying to guage---let me throw off any "time of shipping" math you may have been trying to do---my friend in Georgia received his shipping notification/downloads last night. I, in Virginia, have yet to receive anything :(

Huh? They said they'd start with international stuff, because that takes longest to arrive.

I'm from Europe and my stuff has not been shipped - and I'm quite sure that my stuff will take longer to arrive.

Just cause you get a email doesn't mean your book has shipped. I got a email last night. But in the email it says my books won't ship till next week. But they charged my account now and I assume the box of my stuff is ready to go. Which allows me access to the PDF's. I think giving people access to the PDF's is why this time they are doing it the way they are. All because of the core book and them holding it a couple of days, to try and work out shipping so everyone gets it on about the same day.

Liberty's Edge

I gotta say, I'm a little peeved that I can't get the PFRPG pdf. If the PDF wasn't ready or something that'd be one thing, but this seems to be an artificial holdback just for gencon and marketing.

Maybe your servers will go kablooie if you put it up now, but how about putting it up for like the charter guys or something, we've been supporting you guys a good long while now, would be a nice perk.

Understandable. I just was sharing info for those living oversea's and waiting and seeing some of us in US already getting the emails. Just didn't want them to think ours was already getting shipped just cause we got the email is all.

And now you know.
And knowing is half the battle. The other half was beating the snot out of cobra of course.

The confirmation actually says that your books will ship *by* next week. Normally, this is because it can take a few days after processing for us to get everything packaged, so we set the date you see in the e-mail based on the amount of time we expect it to take before the last packages leave the building. Most packages will ship before that date.

As for when you get your confirmation e-mail, here's how it usually works.

First, we figure out what all the subscription shipments are going to contain, and then we group them by what products are in the package and what method they're being sent. This allows the warehouse to pack a whole bunch of identical packages and deal with them at once, which is much faster than the alternative.

Some of these groups will be large—for example, there are a bunch of people who are just getting the RPG. Some of these groups will be small—maybe there's one person who had a particular D&D mini that they'd selected to go with their subscription shipment.

We take the large batches and run them through an automated system that charges cards and adds PDFs to accounts and spits out labels. One warehouse team packs these boxes, labels them, and readies them for pickup by the shipper.

Smaller batches work better with individual attention, though, so another team starts working on them, and charges cards and adds PDFs to accounts as each package is prepared.

The upshot of this is that if a bunch of people have what you have, you'll get your PDF in a relatively short period of time, but if your shipment is unusual, it may take a little longer.

That's the usual method. For this August shipment, where we want as many people as possible to get their books as close to the release date as possible, we're also considering delivery time. So in addition to contents and shipping method, we're also grouping by estimated delivery time. As with the regular process, the large groups are preprocessed identically, but we won't actually post the package until the estimated delivery time hits the window we're shooting for. Similarly, the small groups are handled individually, sending out only the packages that are supposed to go out that day.

So if you're in a large group, your order has already been processed, and you have your PDF. If you're in a small group, your order will be processed on the appropriate day, and you'll get your PDF that day. And those groups will be based on the shipping time from Paizo. If you're very far away, you'll go out soon (if you haven't already). If you're nearby, it'll be a few days.

The Core Rulebook PDF actually isn't ready. We're working hard to make this the best PDF Paizo has ever produced. Not only will it be fully bookmarked, but it will also be internally hyperlinked, and we've had four people working on that project since it went to the printer. (The initial pass has been completed, and it's being checked now.) We're also hoping to incorporate some errata into the PDF; that's also being compiled now.

Question, Vic.

I recently subscribed to Adventure Path and Modules. I noticed some people already got their pdfs for that... will I see mine soon or did I do something wrong?

Oh okay...

So that goes for all pdfs not just PFRPG... got it now. Sorry about the confusion.

Interesting insight Vic into how things get done when it comes to shipping orders.

Bugga! So my weird order including a whole pile of older books (If I am paying 45 bucks for postage due to the weight, I am going to make it WEIGHTY!) will be a late sender even if it is going all the way to NZ. The problem for those like me is that the estimates given by UPS and USPS to NZ are 'to NZ' not to my door, by the time they get through customs it will be weeks late :(

No—because you're far away, you should be one of the first out the door, even though you're in the manual queue.

I'm in the same boat, more or less, though it's only one odd item for me. Still, judging by my last shipment, assuming that everything goes right, if it ships today we may get it on the 13th here in NZ. OTOH if it follows the average time... it'll be a week or more extra, assuming shipment today. :-(

Oops. Sorry—my answer is normally true, but not this month. In this case, we're showing you the actual date that we're intending to ship, which is determined by the average shipping time to your address and a desired delivery as close to next Thursday as possible.

Hey, love the new bestiary format. It will take a little time to memorize the icons, but they give a nice visual aid. :) Not really hot on the "XP: ..." lines yet, but that may just be me preferring the mathematical elegance (yeah, right...) of the old sliding-scale XP

Yikes! I liked the first answer better, but I was afraid of this. By past shipments as long as I can remember, I know how long it takes to arrive. By the date in my e-mail, I wont get my stuff until the 20th. People on the street will have it before me. Oh well. Dems da breaks!

???

My e-mail says it will ship by Tuesday, the 11th with an average delivery time of 4 to 8 days. That would put it (at best) on the 15th and more likely on Monday the 17th. If it takes 4-8 days, shouldn't it ship on the 10th at the latest?

I was hoping (being in Florida) that it would be shipped by the end of this week....

Gah! Correction: ignore my earlier correction. I was right the first time. We're showing "will ship by Tuesday, August 11" for everyone. I briefly thought we had added a feature that, well, we didn't.

The range of dates you're shown is what's quoted by the post office for the shipping method you've chosen, and it doesn't actually account for the zone you're in. When it comes to picking the date we ship, we do consider the zone; since Florida is in a very distant zone, I expect you'll be processed soon.

Huh...ya know, for some reason, I'm thinkin' there might be more orders this month...

I haven't ordered a print copy yet and it's still quite exciting to track the movements of the packages! I'm really looking forward to getting the pdf though. Next week can't come quick enough! :D

Out of interest though, how big is the core rulebook pdf likely to be? I'm operating on dial-up and with all of the flash features I'm expecting this to be pretty huge. I'm pretty patient with the downloads, but this might be one where I should find a broadband connection to download from!

Other end of the island, amongst the vines ;-)

Well maybe I have been unlucky? Amazon seem to get here really quick but every other book order I get takes it's own sweet time.

EDIT: Dial-up? You must be mad! the lines are so poor here that those on dial up couldn't DL a 10 page colour PDF let alone a 576 page one!

We haven't finished it yet, but my wild guess would approaching 70 MB.

Go broadband if you can.

Cheers for the quick response Vic. 70MB is getting big enough that I'll go pester friends or family to make use of their connection I think. :)

I've been planning to order my copy from Paizo, but I'm heading to the UK for a working holiday and so holding off on getting such a big book until I know where I'll be living. Your great success in selling out so fast has been most inconvenient for me! Terribly disappointing!

Kidding of course! It's great to see how well Pathfinder is doing and I hope the second run sells out just as fast.

I'm in Auckland too. I'm too cheap to spring for the more expensive shipping, so I normally get 11-40 days shipping. Most of the time it's closer to the short end of that range, but once in a while I get two months subscription arriving about the same time. I haven't had a later one beat an earlier one yet though.

On the odd occasion I've had an order shipped at higher rates due to weight, it tends to be about a week, at the low end of the 6-10 days estimated transit.
