Got my avatar up, not much else. I figure that I had stayed in the Army for a second tour, then been kept in by the current unpleasantness. (as many of my Arabic-linguist friends have by the pernicious stoploss policy). I was vacationing in Vancouver, visiting my aunt Terri (who indeed once lived there at one point before returning to Cape Breton) when the zombie plauge began.
Gotta say this avatar has the perfect expression! Looks like he is staring at a pack of zombies shuffling in at him doesn't it?
Dude you made yourself! Man, I'm either gonna feel really guilty or laugh my ass off if your character gets chomped.

It's always fun to play yourself! I did it for 2 years in a Vampire game I was in, gives an extra dimension to the role. ;)

I, unfortunately am not playing myself. While I do often play members of the fairer sex, noone could ever mistake me for female (unless I was visiting a Freakshow, then maybe some kind of sub-optimal Bearded Lady with a goatee instead of a full beard).
Oh yeah and this will be my character... everyone meet Samantha. Obviously I still have to do the stats and write out her background, but it's a start. =)

A zombie movie isn't nothin' without a woman. Thanks for carrying the torch.
Don't worry about screaming and weeping, though, Sgt. Curtin will be doing all that.
heh, heh...
When I first thought about the character I actually envisioned the "screams and cries at the drop of a pin" type, but then realized that wouldn't actually contribute much to the party, so I went with a more robust option for a female character.EDIT: The more I think about that Parkour idea Moth the more I wish I had it myself... that really is an awesome idea for this type of "movie". (And if you don't use it then I might steal it) ;)

Most of the emotion in that scene is thanks to Will Smith's awesome performance.
Yeah I like his acting. When I did my Movie Orgy on Memorial Day I saw a trailer for his new flick Hancock which looks really interesting. A bitter alcoholic superhero who dresses like a homeless bum? Priceless.

Now that was a funny movie! Did anyone see Peter Jackson's low-budget film when he was still a young kiwi filmmaker? I forget the name, but it was hilarious and gross.

Is it this one you're talking about?
Bad TasteI haven't seen it but I hear it's really funny.
EDIT: Have you seen Hot Fuzz? It's damn funny as well. (Same guys that did SotD)

I did see Hot Fuzz, which is a scream. The movie I was thinking of was this: Dead Alive which is this totally gross, funny, zombie flick. I haven't seen Bad Taste, but I'll add it to my Netflix queue!

Patrick, I think the campaign will benefit from a few viewings of the "Evil Dead" Series.
I own this as a "Boxed Set" Tin. How EZYDVD can do this as a Boxed Set is beyond me as they are all made by different studios, but I was NOT complaining when I saw it and snapped it up.
My message tone on my phone is:"See this. This... is my Boomstick!"
I get a few odd looks when it goes off and I am on a job at a Client's house. ;)
What about Resident Evil? Sam can be Milla Jovovich. Rarrr =)
EDIT: Oh and I have even been able to make a start on Sam's stats!!! She is about half done. Man I wish Tonfa's were small so I could use Weapon Finesse with them! =(
Here are some Q's:
- Do cops in Canada carry Tonfa's like US Cops do? (Aussie Cops don't)
- What is a good "Defensive" Martial Art that Sam can have a background in?
MOTH: What kind of shared Background should Sam and Dave have? I'm thinking that they met up while OS (probably a couple of months ago) and decided to travel together, rather than having a history back home. What do you think?

New house rule:
Competition tonfas. Light/small weapons but otherwise as per MSRD (1d4). Yes, legal in Canada.
Police batons/Standard tonfas are much heavier and hit like a metal baton (1d6), all Canadian police carry them. And they know how to use them - a baton swing can be pulled like a punch to do less damage, or it can be whipped with a full arm extension, which is really ugly. They are also armed with Tasers and a Glock 9mm. A loaded shotgun is kept locked beside the computer in the front of a police car.
Interestingly, nunchuks are illegal in Canada, although police turn a blind eye to them in martial arts clubs. They must be home made, smuggled in, or bought in Chinatown on the low-low.

That's Awesome! Thanks for that Kruel. She is also going to have some training with Handguns (explained in her background - when I get around to writing it, the idea is there).
flash_cxxi wrote:What is a good "Defensive" Martial Art that Sam can have a background in?Tonfa are most popular in Japanese martial arts... so if she is just good at evasion and striking I'd call it karate and leave it at that.
Again, thanks for that, I would have Google'd it but I thought if any of you might know a good one then I'd get your input. She will have been doing Karate since she was a kid and have training with some weapons, but she will have an affinity for the Tonfa (and Unarmed Strikes). Now, to find a Karate Dojo in Zombie infested Vancouver so she can get herself armed. =)

Guys, between a fairly busy week at work and prepping for my all too infrequent meatspace game tonight, I haven’t had a chance to do any more work on my character.
Flash, having met up overseas is fine, rather than having a shared history back home. Means we can be fairly independent in our background stories without worrying about it fitting in with the other character’s. I’m thinking that Dave only got to Vancouver no more than a few days ago, and hasn’t gotten a great feel for the layout of the city as yet (which helps, since I don’t either!) – but if it works better for you to have been here for a little while, it’s fine by me too.
Probably they met in another Canadian (or US) city, and were both planning on heading on to Vancouver?

Yeah, not being in Vancouver for long sounds like a good idea. Meeting up in another city (probably US) maybe a month or two ago, and agreeing to travel together for a while sounds good. Maybe we have only been in Canada for a short time.

OK, did a bit of noodling with Ol' Sgt. Curtin yesterday. Finalized stats, feats, etc. I am making him a Ren rat and/or SCA guy (I have almost been roped into both several times) so that I could start with a lil' bit of armor and a big piece of iron to cleave with. If this is stretching things I will retcon.

That's fine, but most training swords, even if they're are REAL, are not usually sharpened.
So you have some sharpening to do.
You want a van?
A jeep? Something like that?

I was thinking a '69 Pontiac Firebird. I once owned one ... sharp pony car, fast too with the V8 350 in it. Maybe not the best for zombie evasion, but hey ...
