David grew up in the inner western Sydney suburb of Newtown. Although fairly intelligent, his interests growing up tending to focus more on the physical than the academic – he was into athletics and sports, although as he grew older the rules and politics or organised sports began to chafe at him. He began to get into more free-form and/or extreme type activities, such as rock climbing, sky diving, free running, and from that, parkour (although in contrast to all of that, he still enjoys a game of boring old cricket from time to time, and plays a fair bit of Australian Football).
Growing up in a very multi-cultural part of a multi-cultural city, he gained an appreciation of other cultures and desire to see other places.
At age 26, after several aborted attempts at completing a university degree, several barely begun attempts at”real-jobs”, and giving up on a potentially promising AFL career before it really began (all to the eternal disappointment of his parents), Dave has become an almost full time traveller, amateur athlete and traceur, funding this lifestyle with bouts of work in the construction and hospitality industries between and during trips.
He’s currently travelling around North America with fellow Aussie Samantha Bastian (whom he met in New York) and is considering bringing the Canadian leg of his trip to a slightly premature end due to a severe disease outbreak in Vancouver only a couple of days after the pair have arrived in the city.
Dave is a tall guy (a little over six foot) with a slim, athletic build. He has lightly tanned skin, short blonde hair and blue eyes. Although people tend to be initially drawn to him (as a tall, fairly good looking athletic type), many people are put off by his demeanour, which can (and often does) abruptly change between laconic and laid- back at one moment, and extremely intense at another. He takes a bit of getting used to.
