A request for weapons charts

When you guys re-create the weapons section in your PHB do something that was annoyingly left out of the Current 3.5 books.

List Hardness and HP in the chart with the weapon please.

I'm tired of every time someone sunders or uses some ability on a weapon I have to check the dang PHB in a different section than the weapon and then adjucate what the heck I think it is based on its thickness, despite not being sure wether things like hammers with a wooden haft and a steel head (which is way thicker than an axe head, but by how much I have no idea)should be given hp and hardness. So if you could just have on the friggen chart the weapons hardness and hp, the player can just note that on their sheet and when effects take place they already know and can just mark down the damage and know without me ruling when it is broken completely.

This isn't a change at all, merely making the information easily accessable, so it's completely backwards compatable.

Scarab Sages

I'd like to see this information in the weapon section too.

This is a great idea. The needless page flipping makes sunder more of a pain than it really should be.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16, 2012 Top 32

Very good idea.

Agreed..

100% agreed.

As a side-note, I'd like a clarification on the rules to point out the fact that YOU DON'T GET SAVES AGAINST FREAKING SUNDER ATTACKS.

*ahem*

It mildly peeves me when people try that.

Agreed with previous poster.

To point, why have this information, because messing with Sunder is too much of a pain without having this data readily available. Lazy? Maybe. But also true.

Not to mention not readily obvious, allright quick what's the differnce in hardness and hp between a greataxe and a greatsword? is there one? does the fact that one has a long wooden haft and one is several joined pieces of steel affect hp when sundering? What page # is the hardness of materials listed in. If anyone can really answer those questions without looking through the PHB for at least 5 minutes I'd like to eat their brain to steal their delicious knowledge.

As it stands now, if a player in my game wanted to sunder a trident, the game would have to stop while I found the section I'm looking for in the adventuring chapter, then I'd have to determine how thick a trident is. Then I'd make my ruling and play would resume, If it had been on the chart in the first place where it makes sense I'd have been able to take the 1 second to look at my DMs screen and see oh it has X hp and X hardness. Ok make your attempt.

Sovereign Court

Thanks for all the support guys.

Do it. Do it! Makes sense. won't burst the page, can be helpful.

Maybe even add a craft DC or something?

Not quite as needed, but then when you look at that chart in the PH it has lots of space that's just sitting unused.

Absolutely!!!

This is an excellent idea, which should become standard (I hope) in the beta and final editions of the PRPG!
Did I mention this is a great idea!!! ;P

I agree

Too many times, and not just for weapons, but for any equiment you end up flipping from one page to another. Charts should pool all the useful information in one place. Then use footnotes to check out extra data.

I hope they do somethign like this. The Dc for Craft would also be a great addition.

Thanks

Sovereign Court

Well the only thing about the DC for craft is that it's the same for every weapon so having it on the chart again and again and again is redundant, maybe just at the top of the chart have one little blurb saying to craft DC x to craft masterwork DC y.

Or create different craft DCs for each weapon, then you could have it in the chart and it would make more sense, after all a spiked chain is a heckavu lot harder to craft than a longsword.

Liberty's Edge

GREAT. IDEA.

No.....

Was I the only one who was let down when the URL led to nothing?

Sorry I let you guys down. In the meanwhile, have this picture of the Chaotic Naughty alignemt

hmph no response from jason yet as to what he thinks of the idea?

Yeah, chalk up another agreeing-post for this great idea.

This again emphasises Pathfinder's seeming penchant for using tabular format for purveying information.

Keep smiling,

In the same line of thinking it'd be nice if the Shatter spell simply did damage to objects rather than the confusing mess it is now (especially adding in Warlock's Baleful Utterance)

Another 'Aye' vote for this, plus the craft DC (I like the idea of slightly different ones).

Perhaps bring back weapon speed as well, as an option?

(Or was I the only one who liked using that?)

Yes to having Hardness, HPs and Craft DC listed in the equipment tables.

Looks like what we have here is a good idea that everyone can get behind. I've yet to see one dissenting opinion, and I'd better not get one of you'se guys who secretly agrees but then says nay cause he always has to play the devil's advocate, I'm married, I get enough of that as it is lol.

The Exchange

I disagree! We should have the APs, HP and so on for all weapons.

(Oh wait, that means I agree...)

w00t (i think that's how the young folks nowadays are saying it) looks like we're getting some momentum, and since the Bull man says he's working on the beta equipment chapter right now, We'll see if we can't get his attention. Let's keep this on the top of the page all week, yeah!

lastknightleft wrote:

Well, I don't like it. It will make the weapons chart unreadable and overly complicated.

.

..

...

Nah, just kidding.

That's a great thing to do. And to have a extra entry on the character sheet for hardness and hp will be fine, too. Especially with magic weapons around...

kukri:
Please please please will you write this weapon so that it has the stats it should have.
These things should do d6 damage and have a range increment for throwing.

Liberty's Edge

I kinda agree. I have a kukri my wife's father got in Burma in WW II. It's a dang shortsword. It feels like a hunk of lead.

Sovereign Court

Well while it was technically off topic it was a request for weapons chart lol. in the meantime

I'd still like something from someone official just to know we've been noticed, but in the meantime I'll just keep building our support.

Sovereign Court

Yes, agreed. Please consolidate the charts we use so they are all inclusive when possible from a usability persepective. For thirty years we've placed focus on play-testing, but what about the usability of the actual manuals from a DM or player perspective. Clear, clean, consolidated lists are preferred. To the OP: great suggestion.

I guess I'm 26 then. Can we get the same thing for armor too?

Sovereign Court

I would sure hope so, I kinda just figured one went with the other, but if it needs be stated then here is the official request

"Please include HP and hardness on the equipment charts (weapons & armor) so that DM's don't need to make wild guesses or search for five minutes for something that should be there since players can have weapons take damage. Please also extend this to the character sheet."

Dark Archive

It's not a bad idea...

So, Yeah ... make it so.

(#1)

I will retire to geekville now...

So say we all.

hardness, hp, AND BREAK DCs, would be HUGE additions to the weapon, armor and equipment charts!

Jason-pookie? Mikey? Someone listening?

Sovereign Court

cmon cmon, one more makes thirty, and not a single person has said that it would be a bad idea.

Scarab Sages

Really such things as Break DC, hardness and hp in the equipment tables would be a horrible idea, escpecially for all the times when characters are wanting to break things. Well, it would be a horrible idea to not include them.

Scarab Sages

You can count on my vote!
